Is anyone concerned that Dust 514 will catch the last few months of the PS3s lifespan, only for the playerbase to plummet when the next-gen sony product is announced/released?

To work so long pushing out new product only to have it die so quickly would suck. |

Its built like Eve. to be expanded upon yearly for many years. Its also PSN market distributed, they will port it to ps4 when its ready. Also, interest for older playstation consoles at the release of another generation takes a long time for it to wain. Sony has yet to stop production of the ps2 as they still sell. 12 years old and still kicking. As long as ps3 games keep their servers up, people will be playing their ps3s as some are not always eager to shell out another 300-400 on the next gen launch model. And since it takes several months for a decent population on a new generation, they have plenty of time to port Dust if its not already planned as a launch title. |

I have this concern as well... i keep reading articles saying that the consuls days are numbered... due to a consumer shift to tablet/smartphone game play...
We will have to see how computers/tablets evolve over the next few years...
this will determine if a PlayStation of the future becomes a Bluetooth controller hooked up to a PlayStation app on your tablet computer... or will be an actual separate devise like the PS1 to PS3 have been... At the end of the game both the pawn and the Queen go in the same box. |

There's also been articles saying the desktop's days are numbered. That the laptop's days are numbers.

If it's not ported to PS4, then it will be ported to PC. I'm sure CCP will not let it die with the PS3. Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot. |

What we all should realize is that Dust 514 is not an average AAA wannabe game and CCP is not an average game company.
When CCP decides to produce some new game, like Dust514, you can bet your life earnings it's gonna be developed for long haul. So rest assured, Dust 514 will be around for another 10 years to come. |

I agree, I certainly won't pay 400 quid or so for the latest system when there will still be bugs and glitches in it.
Remember when they brought out the Xbox, they had loads of problems with it.
So long as people keep playing their PS3's they will still run Dust 514, albeit with a different server, unless they manage to link the PS4, PS3 and PC servers of Dust 514 together.

Yes I am deeply concerned that all PS3's in existence will suddenly self terminate when the Orbis is released.

Sony had a lot of success when the PS2 was released as it was backward compatible with all the PS1 games.
When they released the PS3 it was not backward compatible. As a result many PS2 owners (myself included) did not bother to upgrade as they did not want to give up the PS2 or even classic PS1 titles they still played. PS3 lost a lot of projected sales due to this.
From what I have read this is one thing the PS4 is planing on bringing back. It will at least be backward compatible with PS3 games and possibly even PS2 games.
The PS4 does not look like it is vastly superior to the PS3 graphics wise. Except it is supposed to be 3D compatible. But it is supposed to bring back some of the features that the PS2 has that were dropped by the PS3. This includes the backward compatibility and the modular upgrades.
I refused to buy a PS3 but may buy a PS4 if it delivers on what I have read. |

Well I have a ps3. But I refuse to upgrade the console as during the Sony account hacking scandal I got charged -ú1000 through my sony account.
After fighting for 3 months I got it back, but the new terms of conditions states Sony are now not liable in this case.
So have fun. |

As an Xbox man ... I hope the dust finds proper playerbase and thrives on strong.
But people need to remember that not even the rumour storm has started for the new gen consoles. Nintendos wii u aint the next gen .. its a very late addition to the current generation.
Tablet and mobile gaming .. please .. nor the hardware or the user interface can sport real proper games ... only the garbage they have all the ecosystem-stores filled with .. relative fun for maybe a day .. certainly not so much more. 2 different sort of platforms ... 2 wholly different style of gaming and audience for them ... or do you see yourself doing battlefield 4 on your tablet ?

I am concerned about this, I think we can only hope that CCP will adapt appropriately.
But think about it this way, do you think NO ONE in CCP thought about this already? You think no one in Sony thought about this already? I wouldnt be surprised if theyre already planning on a port or whatever. It certainly wont be the case that the PS4 comes out and CCP says, "huh, who'd a thunk?" |

My biggest concern for DUST, is it's just not good enough to compete with the current range of PS3 games.
The biggest flaw is the base engine is Unreal, which is some what out of date. My logic is this. In DUST (unlike Unreal) if you die, you lose all your ****, and yet it's very hard, not to get killed and lose your ****. Now Console gamers are just not used to this. While the current BETA test pays more back more than you lose, if DUST follows EvEs model, with faction mods and expensive kit items, this will turn around fairly quickly.
The game play is not great either to be honest, I'm a CCP FanBoi 100% and I want DUST to be successful, but I sit down to play a an evening of DUST and I'm soon putting on Ghost Recon or any number of other better games. Yes, I know it's beta, but I have played other betas, WoT springs to mind and that game was more or less the same in Beta as it was in full release. If what we are playing now, is as close to the full release as WoT was in Beta, it will fail. (this could be true if the rumours of a december release are true). At the moment I think worrying about the PS4 is kind of pointless really. I just think DUST has so far to go. On a side note, if players download Dust off the back of some awesome trailers, boy are they going to disappointed with the game they then go on to play.
and CCP, please for god's sake, can we please have an option to find cover and fire from cover??? |
