The overview on the HUD is god awful. Way too much information.
I can see an ability to add more tabs, and filter it some. However, like so many things in EVE, its awkward and unapproachable to me.
Is there an easy way to sort and organize it?
Thanks. |

You could try this. At least it's a good start to make your own modifications.
It seems more complicated then it really is and I suggest you spend time to go through it at some point. Also remember to save your settings on your harddrive. Making those settings isn't too much work, but it's still not something you want to do on a regular basis, so it's good to have a backup you can just import. |

I'll echo this, EVE University have an awesome guide for getting the best out of your overview.
While it can be tough to get used to at first because of the amount of data it shows, over time you warm to it.
If you don't mind me asking, what exactly has been your main issue with it? Functionality? Trouble understanding it? General Information Overload?
I'd be interested in feedback on where you were having trouble to pass onto the guys who work on the New Player Experience CCP Falcon -á || -á EVE Community Team -á || -á EVE Illuminati -á || -á-á@CCP_Falcon -á || -á-á@EVE_LiveEvents

It's not very clear on how to easily edit it. Adding tabs is easy enough but then filtering those tabs so each one reflects the information you want to see at any given moment is difficult. To me at least.
I'm reading the linked page now. |

From my early days it seemed intimidating, since it has so many options and you really have no(as in zero) idea what it should and shouldn't show. After you've played a while you know why some presets are crap and what you can safely remove or should always have showing. The problem is, that you need some gameplay experience before you can do this. After I knew what I wanted to see it was still troublesome, since there was no way of knowing what was included in each of the selectable object categories(What is included in "beacons"/"large collidable objects"/"large collidable structures"/"large collidable ships"). A better and more varied selection of presets, that are explained in a tutorial would propably help a lot.
You should think about copying commonly used presets from those player distributed setting packages. If players bothered to make them and others regularly use them, they're propably really useful and good for any new player too. Preferably you want to reach a point where the overview preset selection offers good options for most aspect of the game. |

I would be extremely interested in something like this. I see an import function.
I really appreciate all the time and effort that went into creating the above page which was linked, however, I simply don't want to do it. It's long. It's complicated. It should not be necessary. It's probably one of the things that drives new people away.
I want to blow stuff up, not spend all 3 hours tonight alt + tabbing a million times configuring something that is apparently critical to playing eve.
If there is a download somewhere so that I can just import the settings, that would be wonderful. |

Here a couple things that I don't get. About a 2-3 weeks into game (2 months ago), I read through the EVE Uni tutorial and followed along. After about a half hour, I think I had it 95% setup their way. All was well. Then, over the next couple months, I made would I thought were minor changes and end up having to import my backup. Here is what I'm experiencing, and I'm sure it's n00b-itus, but I throw it out there. Keep in mind, a lot of this is from memory over the weeks
- sometimes items show in overview and not in space or vice versa. - adding something to one tab adds it to all tabs - adding something to one tab adds it nowhere - tabs appear to 'copy' themselves to other tabs. - items disappear from tabs (both drunk and sober, no pink elephants thoughGǪ.)
I keep swearing I'm going to watch the EVE Uni video and go through this again. But shooting rocks, running missions, ratting in low and learning covert-ops is just too much fun.
One question, how does one 'reset' the overview? Is simply deleting all the tabs the correct way?
TIA -Cheers |

You have to understand that what you see in space (brackets) is not the same as what you see on your overview UNLESS in the Overview Tab in Overview Settings both Overview Profile and Bracket Profile are using the same filter. This explains mismatches between what you see in space and in the overview.
It is a 2 step process : 1 is what you WANT to see (editing Types in the filter) and 2 is of the things you want to see you filter out things based on standing to you (de-selecting things under States). This explains why if you select to see all ships under types you might not see them as they are flown by pilots that have a standing to you that you have not selected under states.
Deleting all existing filters is the real reset. You still have basic CCP filters under Load Default that you started with.

You, my good sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. Many thanks. I will def check out your shameless promo. And, that begs a question I forgot to ask early....
What is the difference between Bracket and Overview profile? On this, my google-fu has failed me.
Thanks again, and TIA |

The brackets are the in space symbels over ships. With them off there are no brackets showing you where drones and ships are around you. |

@Salpun:
There is already the possibility to change brackets while in space.
Alt-X turns ALL brackets on. Sure there is also a hotkey for the all off version. Not in game atm so can't check it.
@BJ.
The louis ones (which I used untill I made my own which are better for my personal need) are not in game for 1 reason. Each person wants something different and sets it up different. There is no 1 way of making an overview that suits everyone while also making everyone happy. The only way to make an overview setting that you like is by making it yourself (or be very lucky to find one that is premade by someone that is exactly what you need).
Also I suggest, that when you have time. Undock, and just try stuff out. Get familiar with how the overview settings work and maybe eventually you want to create your own Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. True There really needs to be a way to change the overview and brackets when not in space though. |

In that I agree with you.
It's just annoying when you need to check/change your overview setting and have to undock because of that. Some times (war-dec, null-sec etc) you won't be able to do that safely, so the ability to do it while docked would be awesome. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station.
