hi guys
I am now doing lvl 4 s in a normal dominix.
I now allmost ready with the training of T2 hybrid guns and I was thinking on upgrading to the navy dominix version.
On battleclinic i find mostly shield tanking fits. My skills in shield are fairly low and was wondering if you can armor tank it just as fine as shield tanking?

Shield Tanking is Kill tanking. Less sustainable tank but more Dmg Mods to do Dmg and remove incoming DPS.
So focus on Drone Damage entirely, Rails are second string.
Probably not optimal, I am a shield tanker with other ship types but this should be in the area of a good starter fit.

Hi
I tried both when I was missioning, got more paper DPS out of the shield variant.
But armor fitting was more forgiving, and allowed a propulsion mod also. Being able to get to 50km gates quicker was more important than doing more DPS for me.
You should consider the future effectivity of the navy dominix in PVE with the new patch, when NPCs will target drones too. Since this ship gets most of it's DPS from drones, micromanageing them seems like a too big task. Time will tell.
My advice: leave your options open for a turret based ship. |

the fitting you give is allmost similar then my dominix fit expect for the extra tracking mods and use one more hardener instead of the membrane
What I read is the other battleships of gallente are not suitable for pve. Tried the megathron before and failed.
as I don t have been crosstraining I do not have another choice atm as other races are still months training away. |

another question
don t you use T2 ammo for the railguns? or is it not worth it?
I mainly use antimatter now as t seems to give the best output on close / mid range ( use thorium or irridium for longer ranges )

Javelin is more accurate but at half the range of AM with Faction Ammo Damage. If you can use it great, most big ships are farther out.
Spike fires past lock without Sebo's for very low Dmg. there are T1 Ammo's that do better in lock range where most missions take place and the closer you are to close range ammo the more killing power you have. |

T2 ammo is usually more appropriate for niche uses. In the case of railguns, it's either epic-range sniping with Spike (not really appropriate for missions), or trying to compensate for poor tracking when something got too close using Javelin (which shouldn't really happen, and you have drones for that anyway).
So... no, not really. I wouldn't recommend using T2 ammo in missions. ISD LackOfFaith Ensign Community Communication Liaisons (CCLs) Interstellar Services Department |

Tried it on the test server, it's not too bad if you have a high dps fit and skills. You don't even have to bother with getting locks and aggro first anymore, just drop sentries and start melting. The only problem is when you go through a gate and land in the middle of a npc blob, then you have to burn away a bit so fit propulsion and you're all good. Don't worry about cap stable repping you want as many damage mods and omnidirectionals as possible. Forget t2 ammo, fed anti and thorium will be all you need.

Slapped together in haste so I'm sure there is room for improvement but that should be able to do any lv 4 serp/guri, remember you can heat the tank for those oh **** moments but with proper piloting it won't be necessary. With shield fit there is room for magstabs so a bit more dps, maybe train that up in the meantime. |

IMO, the Navy Issue Domi is better in almost all aspects compared to the normal Domi (50% more HP for Shield, Armor and Structure, lots more Sensor Strenght, etc.), but has one serious drawback, it-¦s reduced Calibration Points, which make it difficult to fit a Sentry Damage Augmentor rig.
My advise is to start out more cautiously (something along Alaras fitting, though you might want to add a speed module for the mid slots) gradually replacing tank with more DPS (which is a kind of tanking too). And yes, a shield Navy Domi is awesome but not forgiving. Forum-unbanned since 2011.10.20. |

The sentry damage rigs are unfortunately stacking penalized with the drone damage amplifiers. They were the way to go before the new drone modules but fitting one to a ship that already has 3 DDA2s will give minimal return. It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine. |

Battle clinic is always about the paper dps because it's just a bunch of eft warriors.
Even the ones with good rep and lots of post are generally newer players.
You'll do much better on the forums so good job not drinking the Battleclinic punch. |

i don t use sentries anyway :)
guess i will start using a armor tank fit and try to improve my dps modules gradually and see how it goes.
Navy dominix dropped in price big time now anyway. from 282 mil cheapest to 260 now. wonder if I should wait longer as price will maybe continue decreasing or if I should by it now :) |

Revara Ormand wrote:i don t use sentries anyway :) Sorry, but for L4s, that's quite simply doing it wrong. Heavy drones' delayed damage and delay in target switching is not doing good things to your completion time.
Exception: You happen to have T2 heavies, but are still working on your T2 sentries. T1 sentries are not that hot. |

I have been getting nice results with heavys since the new drone mods. Drone Nav Computer (or 2) and 3 DDAs on my Navy Domi, plus manually selecting the next target for the Ogre IIs is pretty quick.
Of course I have mostly been kiting Angels around so they end up bunched up making it easy for the Ogres to munch on. |

Don't underestimate the importance of the rails. They're bonused too, remember, and to put it in perspective, you have only 15% less gun than a megathron. Triple rep Myrms are like what you'd get if you strapped a beehive to Robocop. |

i use T2 heavies and have not started training for sentries yet.
usaly only start using the heavies when all frigates are gone and the cruisers are allready in to close range. ( certainly with angel cartel as it seems that my hammerheads are not that good taking them down but the ogres do it much faster ).
so when the the npc s are mostly orbiting me the heavies do their job fast enough as there is no long travel time. |

Do yourself a favor and train those T2 Sentries.
Because, even with just passable skills, a flight of T2 Gardes one-shot NPC frigates and wreck havoc on cruisers. Even those that get very, very close.
If you pick your targets in proper order, you don't have to scoop Sentries at all. You just kill the whole field with the same drones.
With Garde II's and Warden II's, life equals this: target frigate > pop, target another frigate > pop, target another frigate > pop, target the first cruiser > two hits and pop, etc.
I used to do this on a normal Dominix with no Sentry rigs, just one Drone damage amplifier and no guns fitted.

I just got one... don't have T2 sentry/heavy, don't have T2 rails, do have shield tanking skills(as a nightmare was my primary ship for quite a while, and I have T2 guns for that) and faction/C type invulns...
My fit, hadn't even slapped rigs on it: Lows: 3x DDA IIs, 3x Mag stab IIs, 1x TC Meds: 2x shiny invulns, 1x Shield boost amp II, 1x LSB II, 1x fed navy omni Highs: 6x 425mm meta 4 rails
Drones: 5x CN wardens 5x Hammer IIs 5x Hob IIs 5x FN orgres for close **** 5x medium ECM drones 5x light armor bots
Far from optimal... it gets the job done (would hope so for the ISK it carries, ie mods that are mostly used on my shiny incursion boat) Its major problem, with my skills my drones can only engage targets 54km away.... I need to drop a gun for a drone link augmenter (I've got a black eagle link sitting around doing nothing)
With this fit, half the DPS is from guns, half from drones |
