So I was watching the CCP Fanfest about the economy and while I was checking the prices of plex, it just went up from 590mil to 610mil

It's coming up to xmass.
People have less money to spend on buying time cards\plex's to sell for isk.
People have less money to spend on game subscriptions.
More people want PLEX's
Less Plex's to go around
More demand than supply
Price rises.

Except that PLEX has been steadily rising in price in the last year and half. The world is a community of idiots doing a series of things until it explodes and we all die. |

2.5% is nothing out of the norm for daily fluctuation.
PLEX has been just around 600 for awhile now, not moving much even though minerals shot up about 10-15% across the board. Also ther'es a sell order up @ 608mil with 108 units, so I think it will be awhile before PLEX hits that 610 that you claim it has already hit. |

Still too cheap to invest.

Rising prices reflect pretty much the player's demand and supply. No magic here.

So PLEX's have become steadily more popular over the past year as CCP have been advertising and pushing them? |

Yes, which is my way of saying that i don't think the holidays make it fluctuate that much. PLEX prices rose steadily from 420m to 510m between october 2011 and february 2012, and kept on rising to its current levels.
Also a lot of EVE players are single or un-married men who have jobs, so they don't have much spending to do on christimas time. On the contrary, actually. The world is a community of idiots doing a series of things until it explodes and we all die. |

By all means enlighten me, Jughead.
Are we talking about Game economics or world economics?
- Make ISK to play game - Make ISK to pay for game
Second option means I am grinding my guts out to be game poor
World Economics
- play a sub based MMO to pay for a sub based MMO because I can't afford to pay, be poor in game. - Play one of a million free ones, not be poor in game, have more fun. Wait until things pick up.

Pretty much everything else has been rising.
A freighter, a dread? Both have more or less doubled in price as well.
You have the space-rich and bittervets not playing and spending their ISK on PLEX to keep their accounts training, instead of spending it on the market, while a stronger USD has made it more expensive for a lot of people to buy the GTCs they turn into PLEX.
And of course more and more people have become obsessed with the idea of not paying for EVE. Turning EVE into their second, or only, job while grinding out trillions of ISK for the sole purpose of buying PLEX.
So, a slight drop in supply, steady rise in demand coupled with inflation on the in-game market == rise in PLEX price.

You probably saw my post about buying 2 plex from CCP, selling them and then buying back two plex from the market and applying them to my account.
I'm just gonna poke this through there: If you keep "power-playing" just the market you are actually the worst kind of player.
The ISK doesn't have any tangible meaning, and if you've obtained it station trading it's been farmed from the Faucets.
Statistically speaking, the PLEX subscriber is the most likely to be lost forever.
Statistically speaking, the person paying cash for 10 subs expects to affect someone.
Statistically speaking the acquisition of PLEX revolves around not having the means to instantly satisfy your in-game requirements - Fun-Times Vindicator Faction fit with X-Type reps for example.
Sitting with an Ibis buying PLEX with trit money must be a form of harrassment....
I wonder if the purchased PLEX are actually being destroyed somewhere..... |

Feel free to enlighten us in to how you can read emotion from text. I've never been able to do that.
You do have the trademark Goon posting habit of hacking parts out of quotes though. While it isn't a method of providing motive, it does provide clues to origin. |

Good point but Plexes are like shares, as they are quite unpredictable and may drop and rise any time if I were to wait till it goes 900mil which is unlikely then I am just spending more money at a later time where the possibility of CCP intervening and the price may drop like hell then I'll lose more money if I try to sell the plexes. |

Massive amounts of alt-proliferation. I'd like to think it would come to a head, PLEX would hit the tens of billions, we'd have a huge dropout of veteran players and their hundreds of PLEX-fueled alts each, then things would return to a semblance of normality. But it's not gonna happen as stockpiles are too huge. |

It seems to me that CCP wants the prices of PLEX to rise. Why else would they keep pulling out all these PLEX from the economy. Character resculpts can be done with plex, want to play in CCP tournament well that's going to cost a boat load of PLEX. Everytime CCP yanks a plex out of the economy its one less person that gets to play EVE that month. For this stupid tournament that nobody cares about 100's if not 1000's of plex were swiped from the economy (how the hell are people supposed to care or root for somebody with closed rosters? I assure you no one would watch sports if you gave everyone the same jersey and made them wear ski masks. ATX did so well because people were rooting for alliances they interacted with, that is not happening this time, but I digress.).
More people playing EVE is good for everyone regardless if they are alts or not. The higher the player count at the login, the easier it becomes getting and keeping new players. The more pilots flying around New Eden means more fights and loot pinatas. |
