I'll be getting my Caldari Frigate lvl 3 here in about an hour, and I got my new Kestrel sittin' in the hangar. But I've only been playing for about a week, and the sheer amount of fitting options available is a bit confusing. I wanna start doing agent missions, so I'm looking for any advice you could give me on a decent Kestrel setup for getting through the first couple agent levels. I'd like the ship to be as fast as possible while still being able to handle the combat.
Note: I don't have the skills for MWD's yet, so stick with afterburners if you would. Also, some corp mates have offered to help with the financing, so money isn't really an issue within reason. --- yub yub |

a kessie is mainly designed as a missile boat, so play to it's strengths.
High: 4xLight Missile Launcher or Rocket Launchers (bilieve it or not rockets will actually do more damage than missiles over time)
Med: 1mn AB, small shield booster, cap recharger (if you can fit one)
Low: 2 overdrives if you want speed, but probably not worth it as you should be sitting as far away as possible. Maybe 2 missile ballistic systems (makes them fire faster).
If it's speed you're looking for then go for the Minmatar Rifter as it's one of if not the best tackling frigate in the game. The kestrel is best used as a "sit at a distance and pound" ship.

If your going to do lvl'1 missions, a kestrel is wickedy effective, you won't even get down to half your shields, use this:
High: 4x Rocketlaunchers
Mid: Shield Booster, Afterburner, Whatever
Low: Whatever.

kinetic ones, as you get a damage bonus for them on the kestrel. -------------

i killed a mOo crow like this yesterday:
4 standard launchers/ light missiles (better range, can use fof and dont have to reload as much) 1 mwd, 1 scrambler, 1 webber. 1 power relay 1 overdrive injector.
If u have bad cap skills id swap the overdrive for an extra power realy.

Kessies arnt supposed to be fast but with good skills you can get one to go 380 with no AB. Hi- 4 Standard Launchers (Malkuths) Med- 2 Cap Recharger Is 1 Med Shield Booster (Named preferbly) Low- 2 Overdrive Injectors
the kessi is a frig so nanofibers arnt really worth it. The pure speed increase the ODs give will make it fast enough to out run most things. The Med shield booster lets you tank well enough to do level 2 missions as long as you keep range. (The ODs let you do that)

Aight I've updated a bit since I was sittin on a lot of cash...prob overkill for a throwaway frig but i cant fly anything else right now so...
High - 4 Arbalest standard launchers w/ Bloodclaws Med - Clarity Ward shield boost, 1 Mn AB II, Cap Recharger I Low - Ballistic Control System I, Nanofiber Internal I
If you guys got any advice for improving it that would be great...not sure if those ballistic systems work or if I need the nanofiber, just thought the descriptions sounded good --- yub yub |

Sorry, rockets were deemed too uber, and the t2 versions were phrophesied to herald the end of days, so they have not been released.

I had a great time doing level 1 and 2 missions in my Kestrel. I basically wanted the same thing you did: a missile boat with speed.
4xMalkuth Missile Launcher (or whatever other kind you can find, better is ... better, but even just run of the mill Standards will do)
1x Standard AB 1x Small Shield Booster 1x Whatever you want
2x Nanofiber internal structures
The IS are superior to the overdrives on a Kestrel, since you're never going to take any armor/structural damage. It doesn't reduce cargo capacity (and missiles take up lots of room) and improves your ship's agility, which is just as important as speed itself.

My lvl3 setup:
4x std launcers
1x MWD 1x Shield booster 1x Small cap battery
1x PDU, 1x Balistic
However, taking ur skills in, i would use:
4x std launchers
1x AB 1x Shield booster 1x Small battery
2x Overdrives (or nanofibres)
Orbit @ 28km, and reek havoc.

a week old char wont do pvp... so fit 4x standard missile launchers, small shield booster, ab, ... and then you will see how much cpu / pg will remain

You're gonna scare this guy away if you keep posting setups he can't use unless he trains another 2 weeks.

Edited by: Heelay Ashrum on 04/05/2005 12:33:33 Many guys suggest u rocket launchers because they do more dammage and that is true, but i will anyway suggest u to use standard launcher because light missile have 25km range instead of 10km and since u are still a noob u will have more energy/tanking problems so keep distance it's a realy good idea.
If u keep 25km hardly u will need to repair your shields (u are too far to be hitted ) so only thing can kill u it's boredom. Be at 10km mean to be at shot range of npc's so u must know what are u doing and probably u can do that with better skills so u can run repairers for more time.
