Hi all,
Check out the last words in this vid clip about having Mechs in Dust 514
http://youtu.be/_Ksa3lVqc54
Does anyone know if this will be part of an expansion like Armoured Kill for Battlefield 3, or will they be part of the actual game launch???

I picture the MTAC's like the APU suits from Avatar or The Matrix.
I can imagine a match now, someone has a tank air dropped in, then another player has an MTAC air dropped, more of each follow until it becomes a metallic death match.
And then someone orders a nuclear orbital strike.

I think the MTACS are going to be used on non habitial planets like Lava,Gas,Ice/water ect rather than on the earth type worlds,so the player can operate on said worlds. They will be a type of dropsuit/verchile in other words. As obvisouly aircraft arnt going to operate on a water world or in the depths of a gas giant. |

MTAC's won't be operating on a Gas Giant, for one, no ground to stand on and two, the pressure would crush them if there was any ground to stand on. Only 40 rounds per gun... I hate reloading in the middle!

Why would you assume a gas giant doesn't have ground? Mostly liquid and frozen matter with a surface that cools and heats with the orbit of the planet as it turns towards the sun. Warming of the surface effectively causes lower freezing point gas to vaporize until it cools during the rotational period that it is away from the Sun. Even then, a great deal of the surface is gas that won't freeze or achieve a liquid state even at those temperatures.
Granted, that's primarily speculation, but don't expect Jupiter or planets like it not to have a surface of some kind. Space is cold, and most elements condense and freeze at those temperatures.
As for gravity and pressure:
"The surface gravity of Jupiter is 2.53 times that on Earth." - not that significant really.
hmm.. according to what I just read, scientists speculate that the core of Jupiter is some 36000 degrees Kelvin, which is enough to easily sustain a gaseous environment. No guarantee, but possible I suppose.
"Jupiter is not the only planet facing debate as to whether it has a surface or not."
Read more: http://www.universetoday.com/22719/surface-of-jupiter/#ixzz2DsH9wiUm
So, still not a certainty, but rather a hypothesis that it doesn't actually have a surface. Either way, pressure increases the closer to the core you get, and there is a point at which the atmospheric pressure is equal to that of the surface of Earth. Platforms at that level would then only be subject to the harsh environment and gravity. zubzubzubzubzubzubzubzub |

I stand corrected, and thinking about it, I should have known better.
In one of my Sci Fi fiction books, not related to EVE, there is a planet where cities have been built in the atmosphere, much like Cloud City from Star Wars.
Something of a similar nature, like a gas harvesting facility/colony could be used as a battlemap.

Its as is DUST is trying to combine my favourite video games into one.
I love eve, I love FPS`s and I love mechwarrior - Dust has all these things. Now just somehow get Starcraft 2 in there and a little racing on the side and were set!
I bought a PS3 to play a few games. I have the ones I want, all accept dust 514.
When is the game due out for release? It seems hard to find a nailed down date? "Were not elitists, were just tired of fail" - The Sorn |

For reference, the man driving that MTAC is now the Executor of the Caldari State, Tibus Heth.
The image depicts him during the Caldari Constructions riots on Piak III, and the MTAC is a very basic industrial unit used for heavy lifting.

Well since they're not in the beta I guess its okay to speculate.
Combat MTACs are likely much larger than the aliens power loader, but smaller than most other mechs so 12-15 ft tall range (power loader was about 8)
As for weapons and role... well not sure yet.

This post needs a spoiler alert in case someone doesn't want part of "the empyrean age" ruined for them, at least the bit about his current position in caldari state. I've already read it so no harm done here, but I think its safe to say that most people have not.

With introduction of Mechs, I hope the will not be the strongest unit out there. Rumor had it that this was on of the things that killed Planet Side 1.
When the are introduced the had a niche, ie able to move quickly over impassable terrain, awesome in hand to hand combat, an able to deploy and operate special equipment. Armor/shield moderate, speed slow, weaponry moderate Some day I will have the internet and be able to play again. |

Oh don't worry, it wouldn't be in the EVE universe if dust didn't have their own versions of titans, to sit and try and 'fix' for many expansions to come. Some people liked them, most people hated them. Even today BFR discussions still caused massive flame wars on Planet Side forums. Its hard to tell if BFRs caused Planetside to die, as the game had crested by the time they came out.
Problem with BFRs was they came into the game over powered then were nerfed to the point of uselessness. Devs lost their credibility. That and the game was really old (and showing it) by the point of the great nerfing.
We shall see how CCP does mechs. They should look at the data sony has on Planetside One in regard to that release (if they actually have it). |

Let me guess, you aren't into Planetary Interaction. We have colonies built on these gas giants. Literally on them. Not in them, but floating on top of them, where the gravity and pressure are far less severe, and they act like platforms. You don't need ground to stand on, any solid surface will do.
