New player and trying to decide what I want to do to finance my eventual pvp endeavors.
I was wondering if it would be feasible for me to mine the ore, get the blue prints, and then make my own stuff for T2 pvp frigate outfits.
Not sure if I would want to go super heavy into manufacturing, but the idea of building my own stuff is appealing.
Is this something a newbie could realistically do, or would I just be better off mining and selling the resources to pay for new ships?
Thank you.
I am doing the beginner agent missions still, but am trying to figure out my income stream. |

look up Invention guides in the industry subforum
the other way of making T2 items is off original T2 blueprints ... the super expensive/rare blueprints
its also fairly skill intensive T1 blueprints need to be reserched R&D skills come in useful
The actual Invention process is usually done from a PoS, which is whole extra level of complexity.
dont let ANY of this stop you though, you might still enjoy it |

Well T2 production isn't as simple as T1 production
T1 is simple, you need a blueprint and minerals.
With T2 however, you need T2 BPCs, which can be bought from contract or you can make them yourself through invention. This invention then needs R&D datacores etc.
For T2 production itself you also need other things besides plain minerals from asteroids, most important factor is the moon goo which can become pretty expensive.
All in all, atm I would say, sell the minerals and use the ISK to fund your PvP. Eventually you might want to look into production though, but make spreadsheets to find what is more profitable first.

If you like mining and production then the above advice is for you, if you are just mining for isk then you may want to do missions or some other form of pve as the combat skills you train for them will transfer over to pvp quite well and once you have a good setup it will make more isk then mining will.
If you still want to make your ships buy the blueprint copys and the minerals to do so with the isk from the missions. |

Thank you. After some more research I think I am not cutout for manufacturing.
Do you typically make more Isk mining or by running missions?
Mining kind of appealed to me because of being able to spend time researching while I mine....so much to read about this game.

I don't know the current numbers on mining but from my past experience missions have the potential to make several times more per hour on a single account in highsec space. This is partially due to the vast amount if skills and shiny faction equipment that can be reinvested into missions to increase the speed they are run. For me I can net anywhere from 20-60 million per hour on lvl 4 missions depending on the ones you pull, I want to say mining earns 10-20 per hour in highsec with high skills but I'm probably a bit off there.
Also know that certain... legally ambiguous pvp activities cause sec status loss, missions help recover that sec status. |

Training for missions ie weapon skills, fitting skills & tanking skills will equally apply to
Incursions Basic PvP
where training to mine will not.
That said there is nothing stopping you from training both overtime, but i would recommend that you either focus on mining or combat in the short term. |

Generally speaking, only producing for yourself is not worth it. For manufacturing, you need skills that take a good amount time to train. When you only train them partially, you will often find that items on the market are cheaper than what you'd pay when building them yourself. Items on the market are supplied by industrialists that build those things in large quantities with perfect or near-perfect skills. Competition between those indy types will make sure that you will be better off just buying everything you need with the ISK you make from other activities.
Unless you want to become a fullblown manufacturer, of course. But even In that case you should still produce the things that turn the biggest profit and not what you personally need.
EVE is all about specialization - self sufficiency is an interesting ingame goal, but not really worthwhile per se. Do what you enjoy, but don't feel yourself forced into manufacturing because you think you can save some money that way. So... i started an industry blog at www.derbk.com/eve There i am preparing a guide to all things related to manufacturing. Check it out!

If you want good money from manufacturing, you have to look at making ships. Usually cruiser and up but you'll be spending a lot of time mining to get the ore for them. If you don't fancy your chances in lowsec or nullsec, mine some extra highsec ore to pay for the Zydrine and Megacyte you'll need.
However, the BPO's cost a fortune so you'll need a fair bit of isk to get them, do that with mining and/or missions. Don't bother with BPC's, you'll end up paying so much for a BPC with a few runs that the return won't be worth it.
Manufacturing isn't for the faint hearted, it does require a lot of work and skills to get going as well as the outlay for the BPO's. However, once you have them, you can make a nice income. I started on frigates, then cruisers and now I am building Orcas. So it is possible to do it but you will need to do a fair number of missions so you don't lose a percentage of your refined ore on taxes so the missions may be a good way to get the isk to get started and to get rep with a station so you don't pay so much in taxes for refining.

This, but as said before.
To be competitive in such a way that building is cheaper then buying it from market you will need:
* A researched blueprint (BPO or BPC). * (near) perfect skills in manufacturing * perfect refine standings
All which means you will spent a lot of time into Industry related stuff.
From your OP I get the feeling you are more a PvP guy who is just looking for a way to fund your PvP. I will suggest missions or Incursions for that because they are also shooting related. This means the skills you train to shoot other players also help you shoot NPC rats and other way around. Old look Corporation recruitment thread Corporation Website |
