tbh particles and smoke are nice but overall explosion is not impressive for a capital, like on others ships, too short flash, no mini explosions, no BA BA BOOM! just ok... |

New explosions are fine !... For NPCs. Really, they are pretty cool when ratting.. But player ships should have a better end !
Not everyone is fighting in 1500+ man fleet battles, and people participating in these fights will experience performances issues anyway...
Also, I know it sounds weird, but you have that thing called "options" when you hit esc. With the window that appears, people can by themselves lower their graphics when they are about to participate in a huge fight. And they can even do that when they are in the middle of one, because lowering is always easier than increasing graphics, and because of TiDi.
So, if this is a performance issue, just make nice explosions and hide some effets when in medium or low. Eventually, if you think that people are not using options enough, in the middle of a huge fight, add a new page for the tutorial so that everyone knows how it works ! :D *Yelling "Manticooore !" on teamspeak* |

Sorry, but new explosions look terrible :(. They feel as if its a game from 2005 at best. We have reached a technology level where we can have dozens of explosions like in crysis1 at the same time with average PCs of today (and in crysis we even have a realistic physics engine too!). So please dont use performance as a an excuse... only because 2 or less percentage of players have very old PCs of 2003 we dont want to have visuals of that time for everyone :(.
I really was hoping all the time i am playing eve, that finally one day we will see great explosions and i fear that after retribution, explosions will stay for a few more years at this poor level.. thats disapointing.
In fact the actual explosions are missile explosions, just scaled up a bit. But missile explosions are not designed for big objects like hundred meter long ships.
Rollback please. |

I can't tell anything more about new explosions effect based only on some YouTube videos expect that they look nice.
It seem that there is place for some improvements: - tweaking explosion effect based on ship-size (for bigger ships slowing down explosion animation and increasing light intesity / initial flash) - some light streaks could imply that there is debris after explosion of ships (light going trough debris would make streaks) but untill I see all of this on december 4th can't discuss more.
And what about structures explosions? Did they stayed same? In EVE Fanfest 2012 they showed destrustion of titan. I am aware that it is to early to implement those effects on ships but maybe for start CCP could play with that kind of effect on exploding structures without making big impact on client performance and big fleet fights.
And at the end I agree with Altrue

Only reason, as I see it, for this approach that could be a problem is coding. I don't know if just implementing such effects, despite optional turn on/off button, could make client perform bad.
After all, making game look beautiful should be as much important as making it perform well. |

This.
Edit" I actually like the new explosions but they should be slower and bigger on player ships. I think that's an awesome idea. "In the age of information, ignorance is a choice." |

Think they should have extended it to both Transport types.
I hope they redue T1 Haulers with specific roles though difficult due to the lopsided ship distribution.
My thoughts on that in general are posted here. |

Finaly saw the new explosions effect and my thoughts are divided: - I think that new effects are nice but needs to be tweaked and adjusted. From up close they look really nice but from distance they can be easily overlooked (maybe bigger and stronger initial flash would make a difference) - new explosions are somehow hollow and ned to be more "voluminous" if that would be right word. Like they are missing initial "bang". Work in progress on Fanfest 2012 was what I was hoping for - also keeping old effects for structures explosion makes overall look and feel inconsistent
I really hope that CCP is going to improve those effects in near future. All in all, everything else that came with Retribution looks great. |

I'd like to preface this by saying that on the whole I am very happy with Retribution and with all the work that CCP has done since Crucible. You guys rock.
I intend this to be constructive feedback:
I feel like the new ship explosions are underwhelming. Especially the supercap ones. You've gotta understand - seeing a pretty explosion is one of the most rewarding parts of combat. After all the excitement of a tense PVP battle, seeing the other ship explode in a spectacular fashion is almost its own reward (not quite, but almost). Even more so, with supers. You remember when the titan blows up in the Tyrannis trailer? It should be like that. A massive 50-km wide fireball with sparks and flaming debris shooting off in all directions. The current supercap explosion just feels really whimpy and underwhelming to me.
I understand that performance is an obstacle to be overcome. I've been on the receiving end of perfectly executed bombing runs that devastated the whole fleet on more that one occassion, and I remember how the screen pretty much froze. Perhaps you could include an "Explosion Detail" setting in the graphics menu, just like shadow quality and texture resolution. That way, people with computers that can handle it could still experience mind-blowing explosions if they want. |

New explosions in Retrbution are some of the worst i have seen in the last 5 years of game developement. Just think about the visuals you see in Eve in the year 2012 and then think a moment. Just go 5 (FIVE!!!) years back in the year 2007 and search for the game Cryisis so that you get an idea of what was possible 5 years ago. Dont argue with server side performance now because all visuals are client side. I also dont want explosions that can mess with Crysis in Eve, but i want something that when it happens, that lets me say WOW! Thats a cool effect. Actually when i notice an explosion in game, i dont even notice it... it just happens but its so fast and unspectacular, that i dont even want to look at it. Thats really disappointing in my opinion.
Just have a look on a game from 2002 (thats a year before eve came out) and tell me how "nice the eve visuals are". http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=jmjJpy4ubgs#t=88s
I love Eve, but sure not because of the effects in game. There is a TON of potential that CCP is wasting because they have no men (or the wrong) working on this part of the game. |

That is not to say there there are not area's that could certainly stand improvement, even at the current level of graphics tech being utilized. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

Well then most people are simply wrong... This game is using an extremely dated engine, has small texture sizes, mediocre sound effects, mediocre (at best) graphical effects, very inefficient volumetric rendering... Compared to other 10 year old mmos, eve is fantastic, compared to triple A titles that have come out in the past 3-4 years, this game looks like ass.

He's right. As much as i love Eve, the engine and the visual effects of this game are as old as the game itself (or at least feel like that) and the fact that CCP releases effects that are of such low quality makes me cry

I am so disappointed about your two excuses sir:
1,Most of the players have no chance to see the TITAN explosion when they log on game every time ok???Show off the only beautiful TITAN explosion is not enough although u did a great job on it.(If TITAN's explosion is the same as the small ship's then EVE wont go anywhere in the future)
2,All the players could set the graphic options to avoid the hit for the client ,do you think we pay for your game monthly but even cant afford to buy a computer to meet our basic requirement??? we can remove all of the effects from the client setting plz dont forget that!!!
Plus the annoying explosion effects have severely affect my game experience in EVE , I know CCP will neglect our minor players' opinions and I have saw CCP's carelessness about developing this game when the players amount are rising more and more.Maybe it's time to save my money for another game if you still so casual about your production!! |
