Maybe this is the right place to post this...
I am somewhat confused about Aurum and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction, as I imagine the topic must have been covered already (although I have mostly found only rants one way or the other).
I think I understand why Aurum was introduced, but is the general consensus that CCP has abandoned the NeX store and the usefulness of Aurum in Eve? It seems that it is going to be a significant part of Dust514, so doesn't that somehow impact the value of Aurum in Eve, if the two markets are going to be linked?
I would hope we could just focus on what we know, as opposed to rants about the horrors of micro-transactions in fictional markets.
If CCP is going to support Aurum as a value transfer mechanism, it should have some value - probably more than where it is currently trading in Eve ISK terms. If CCP is going to abandon the concept, they are likely worthless.
Has there been a clear-headed economic analysis of this somewhere? |

Have not head anything about the Aurum since last summer. Do not think CCP have abandoned it, but no mention in dev blogs or the QEN irrc. Possibly at fan-fest, but I was not there. I read some facts about monocle sales (a year ago) and was amazed at how many of those things had been sold.
I think CCP makes a little bit on the side with the store and they hope to rake it in in the future, when it will just be accepted as something that has always been there. Marking time currently.
As a trader I look at it as an opportunity to make more money, thus I look forward to an active store and re-sale of Nex items, much as I dislike the concept.
Imho the store was entirely responsible for the WiS fiasco last summer. Players had little against WiS in specific. They either liked it or did not care. It could have continued this way, but the store brought the issue to the forefront, leading directly to Retribution, which is the fix-it-all patch.
No idea how Dust will impact, but I think the store (and Aurum) will see better days. Happiness is a warm gun. |

I expect the NeX is simply hibernating at the moment. There were some very nice clothes "leaked unintentionally" some time back. So there are new clothes out there somewhere.
It would not surprise me in the slightest to find that NeX is actually in active development in the "Skunkworks" division of CCP (aka World of Darkness) and we will get new vampish clothes when CCP wants to test them in advance of WoD launching :)
To the folks from CCP: it is okay, you can come out now :) The ill sentiment was directed towards indestructible "things" being magically produced ingame by simply throwing money at CCP. What the players want is destructible things that are produced by players. Sure, sell us the BPCs for real money. We don't care about that. There are many people like me who would love more clothes for their space barbies, as long as these items are part of the established rules of the game: player manufactured & destructible.
But let us wait until January and see what surprises arrive in Retribution.
