At Sony, we see you more then a customer. You're our resource to be harvested.
What a great business model.
Sony Bringing PSN Pass To All First-Party Games
Movie theaters could change marks, I mean customers, an extra $10 for sound. Home delivery pizza companies could charge for delivery. Wait, they already do that. What other businesses could use this model?
Ah, I don't play Sony.

The did say it's for used games only. Original buyers won't pay anything more.
It's an obvious attempt to cripple the second-hand market. |

Yes. Same reason Walmart don't have flee markets in their parking lots.
When done with games, I remember handing them off to friends. Now they ended up at the second-hand store( Goodwill, Salvation Army,....etc.).

It should be noted that the industry recognizes that the second-hand market is far more "damaging" to sales than software piracy is. I find this interesting that the industry attacks legitimate consumers just as much (if not more) than illegitimate ones. |

This is part of the reason I came back to Eve... sure CCP screws us but at least they use lube and try to be a little romantic first. I just use my PS3 for Netflix and Blu-rays anyway, console games don't give me the graphics that I've come to expect from PC games so the concept of having to pay extra for their sub-par crap is pretty insulting. |

Good point. I wonder when one can get second hand eBooks for the Kindle... |

What I can not understand, about this and also within the music industry, is how transfering music between computers, free or otherwise, is a violation of copyright, but buying and selling used copies of music/games/video/ is perfectly legal. Which is pointed out below.

What makes it even more funny is that these second hand business have to be a heck of a lot easier to track down as compaired to people on the internet that are trading/stealing games. I mean, I can drive down the road and see 3 of them in the first two miles /facepalm
/insert tinfoil
The big guys have their hands in the first hand and second hand markets and are going to use this to tap an etra $10 from people that use the second hand market for any multiplayer game.

( except maybe skyrim ) Fallout: New Vegas is good, too... (storyline is more contrived than Fallout 3, but overall game play IMO is better)
But, yes, I will agree that if game quality went up, the secondhand market would be less of a factor. Too many games have lots of shiny junk in them, but little in the way of replayability. Give me a game that I can play 3 times and have a different experience each time, and you better believe I'm holding onto that game.

The rules of supply and demand don't apply when supply is, for all intents and purposes, infinite.
Corporations are just trying to artificially limit the supply rather than drop the product as-is and switch to a service based model, of which this 'measure' is a part, trying to extend the life of physical boxes in all the wrong ways. |

I have no problem with subscription games.
Companies should create new content/services/products to keep current customers happy, and hopefully bring in new paying ones. Doesn't seem be be the way they mostly operate. To busy bleeding the current customer base and spend valuable resources trying to capture new customers. At cost of ones they have. That is just bad customer management.
Some companies don't ever have customer retention programs,....cough,....CCP,.....cough.
