I trained into gallente T2 cruisers for the Ishtar's PvE and the Deimos' PvP.
Now Im trained up in the Proteus, but the fits on battleclinic are kind of ********. I could care less about spending 5 billion ISK, to fit out a cruiser with Mothership tank. I want to fight, I want to run plexes, and none of the fittings on battleclinic really help me do that.
They're all gimmick fits.
I live in Sov, Angels are pretty much all we fight, besides other Players.
Anyone have any insight or experience with the Proteus that will help me make it badass? |

There is one specific thing the Proteus is better than any other T3 at.
It is the only one with a truly good cloaky gank fit. Because of the nature of blasters and covops cloaks, you can fit a high DPS, ridiculous EHP monster, cloak up, warp near a target, and approach it. You then bump it as your decloak, knocking it out of alignment, tackling it before it can realign, and happily sitting right inside your blasters' optimal.
That's just about the only thing it does extremely well besides fleet boosting, though. TEST Alliance BEST Alliance |

They make good boosters too.

What Akirei said, there is a reason it looks like a shark. Approach target with the Jaws soundtrack and enjoy. "Oh, you can't help that," said the troll: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" -ásaid the forumwarrior. "You must be," said the troll, "or you wouldn't have come here." |

So cloaky ganking is the way to go. I was hoping not to lose the 6th high slot, but I'll check out some gank and spank. |

You can still have 6 highs cloaky. One will be for the cloak but still.
Proteus isn't the best PVE ship, and especially in angel space. But I have flown one for fun. It isn't terribly efficient but it is fun burning into a field of serpentis battleships and just melt them. |

Proteus is second best at PvE in Nullsec, behind the Tengu IMO.
I'm talking about the cloaky/nullified T3 ships. Something you can fly around endlessly without scouts and intel. The drone bay is nice. Able to fit 20 light drones. |

yeah but for PvE, drone setup is weak. 100Mbit of bandwidth is not enough for a full flight of heavys, and because Im in angel space the rats resist a decent amount of Rail's Kinetic/thermal dmg, Also, the range on blasters means I have to get close, and all that Mach rats love fighting up close, and explosion dmg is the biggest hole in the proteus.
Living in angel space makes me wish I had a tengu. |

proteus are shotguns that spit out nasty dps close up. we love them in wspace, fleet fights (no cloak) and of course cloaky heavy tackle. |

It flies exactly like a bigger, tankier Ishkur. |

They're especially good for small-medium scale fights in low-sec and w-space. They do a ton of damage, and act as a recon with their bonused scrams and points. Combine them with Loki webs, and you can hold down targets at good range. |

I understand the proteus can fit the highest EHP tank of the 4 strategic cruisers, though I don't have the fitting myself. |
