I first hired The Ghost Army a little over a week ago now. We were decced two weeks ago by a merc alliance that proved to be a challenge for our new and growing corp. We never acted like carebears, taking the fight straight to their home system on the minute the dec went into effect and we continued to engage them in fleet over the next several days. We took some heavy losses -- probably somewhere in the 3b range. Many in our corp are very new; one of the founding principles of our corp was to recruit new members and give them a safe haven in which to grow their characters and determine their path in Eve, rather than quit the first time they're podded, which seems to happen so often. Many of our losses were easily avoidable if our newcomers had listened to those of us who were actually giving them the advice they needed. Alas, it is what it is. And to their benefit, they have stuck with us throughout this entire situation. Recognizing we did not have the proper composition to adequately confront this threat, I began looking into merc contractors and reviewed their killboards. We learned that many merc corp/alliances will not fight other merc corp/alliances. I understand this and respect it, but it does give an unfair advantage to one side at times. The Ghost Army were the only ones (to my knowledge) of the largest and most efficient merc alliances willing to accept a contract from us to help us even the odds against the mercs that decced us. So at this point, the hunters become the hunted... Over the course of the next week, we were largely left alone as The Ghost Army, true to their word, hunted and confronted our war targets. The mercs who decced us logged on far less often than before, were station camped many times, and made to be virtually ineffectual against us. There weren't many kills, but that was not the goal, and it was not The Ghost Army's fault. The mercs who decced us simply would not engage them very often. This was fine by me as it kept them off of our backs, but I surely hope it did not bore our efficient killers to death. ;-) At any rate, before the contract was up, they dealt a crushing blow to the mercs, destroying a ship I would personally value at somewhere around 2b. (The killmails so often undervalue these things.) You can see that kill here. So while we lost much during that first week, we were largely left alone the second, and that one kill virtually evened out the losses from both sides. Our war is not over. The mercs may have extended their contract, and if that's the case, we have every intention of continuing our contract with The Ghost Army. So I absolutely feel hiring The Ghost Army was one of the best things we could have done... But I would not end my testimonial there. I've gotten to know a few of the people who manage The Ghost Army, on a very limited basis, and deeply respect each one of them. They're really great people. They're professional, thoughtful, kind, wise, honest, and fair. If you ask a question, you will not be lead astray or left wondering anything. That said, I sure as hell would hate to be their enemies, because I've no doubt they could cause some serious damage and crush all your hopes and dreams! We've every intention of maintaining a relationship with them for a long time to come. I've said so much, yet I feel I've not said nearly enough. They deserve every bit of praise I can muster...
