Edited by: Taggz on 22/05/2005 16:31:05 I've been pondering a possible Cyclone setup for a while now. With no significant tanking ability due to 4 mid/low slots, and only slightly more damage than the average battle cruisers, what did the Republic fleet have in mind for it?
8 High slots (5/3) - Hurrah, IÆll fit lots of long range guns and missiles 4 Mid slots - With an inherent ship bonus that helps for shield tanking, perhaps these should all be for shield tanking... (Shield booster, 2x hardeners and a Shield extender or Boost enhancer) - Though maybe drop something for a tracking enhancer/Web 4 Low slots - What could possibly be left after lots of guns and shield boosting? More damage and shield boosting! (Gyro's and PDU's)
750 drone bay... Can't have 10 Med drones, so I guess having more than 500 is a bonus to convenience so we can lose some of those 10 scout drones most other battle cruisers carry?
Thought's and/or comments?
To clarify; Seams like this ship was designed to use an excessively simple setup, by maxing the damage in the highs and low's with Guns/Missles/gyros while fiting nothing but shield boosting in the middle. Is this the Principle the Cyclone was built around? Perhaps the Tempest also fits into this catagory? There just is no room for anything fancy like tracking/EW in the middle on a Cyclone if your aiming to tank it (as the ship skills scream it should be)

Havent used mine in pvp, but this is what I use for pve atm - makes lvl3s fun.
5x 425mm/720mm; 3x Hvy AB II, Large/Med SBII, 2x hardeners PDU II
if you use 720mm you wont have the fittings for a large SB II, unless you downgrade to assault/rokt launchers. if you do it with med SB and assault/rokt you can switch in some Gyros in the lows. or just forget about tank in low nd just use RCU/Gyro.
PVP-wise you cant fit barely anything above 5x 720mm unless you use RCU/PDU, killing slots for gyros, so depending on skills the rupture could have a higher DoT 4 you. -------------

Yes I think it is and as such quite effective imo.

TBH Tech II Cyclone is the highest thing in my "want" list atm. -------------

Sounds flawed with no mid slots to spare for a web or tracking enhancers. I feel the web is a must in pvp to hold any Blasterax/tix out of range. Even then they would have time enough to warp off with no disruptor.

Matari Way Firepower & Range
High: 5x 720mm nameds (Tech II if possible), 3 assaults launchers; Mediuns: AB II, 2x Tracking Comps II, Sensor Booster II; Lows: RCU, Med Arm Rep II, Gyro II, Tracking Enhancer II.
You can change the repair for another Gyro  + 70km with Carbonized Lead

I absolutely loathe the shield bonus. it gimps the ship. Minmatar shield resistances are very bad so to form a defence around them is also bad.
Its underpowered. with shield bonus u must be going long range setup. If not you will have lots of power left over. but it does not have enough power to go long range. currently I am using 650s on mine and I think that is a damn shame. ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

agreed. it's a silly bonus like the typhoons. they should either give it another gun bonus or change the slots about. -------------

um, yeah, it is, as its bonuses only apply to 4 of its highslots, Every other BS in the game with damage bonuses has them affect at least 6 of its weapons. Geddon gets bonus to 7, tempest 6, mega 7, dom 6, raven 6. Scorp and Apoc have no damage bonuses. But the phoon has a damage bonus only applied to 4 of its highs. And besides that, the optimal range bonus is doubly a joke, because first of all that range bonus is only applied to 4 weapons, but also the phoon doesnt even have the grid to nicely fit 4 1400s and 4 of anything else.
