Im looking at getting a nice new keyboard and some of the good ones have buttons that you can program a set number of actions, see it before but never really used it.
Do them keyboards work on eve ?
does anyone use one are they any good ?
the one im thinking of is

i just brought the logitech g510 or something, i don't even remember. has all the macro buttons on the side, never even used them.
it's a nice keyboard though. Reading my posts is like panning for gold; most it will be useless, but occasionally you'll find a nugget of gold. |

extra buttons on the left side ? mostly useless because they rarely can be accessed without problems in a heated gaming situation
extra buttons under the space key ? a godsend ! We are recruiting german-speaking PVP players, contact me :)

Does anyone of you have any pro tips on nice kestroke sequences that are useable? So far, I haven't used the function buttons to other things than throw out and take back drones. |

The only one I have currently mapped is the select all key combo. Just cause I use it a lot.
And that function can't be remapped in game.
If it wasn't for Razers drivers junk I would suggest them , they make great keyboards. But overall Logitech is better.
Oh and mechanical keyboard is a must. EVERYBODY KNOWS |

I use the G19 aswell
Solid keyboard, probably the best one I've had yet.
Never used the G keys with eve online though...but I know that the map interface is bound to one or two of em. Manage to hit a couple by accident...and it filled my screen with junk, couldn't see jack and had to close em all before I could resume control over my ship again.
sheesh

Logitec G13 ftw.
It gives you a Seperate Key pad with the ability to set various profiles.
I use it for PvP and it makes life waaayyyyy easier. I'm a lefty and most of the other GamePads are for right handed ppl. This one works for both...

Got Microsoft Sidewinder x4 and i like it, useful and easy to record/use macro keys on the side and doesn't look "over the top", also it feels like a mechanical keyboard but it's not.
Oh, another good thing is that you don't need to go into software to make the macros, you just record them on the fly :), like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=AP_a_uT6RDY#t=79s
Just stay away from Razer keyboards, they are cheaply made(4 of my friends own razer keyboards and they are always complaining that something doesn't work) and mostly a gimmick to attract "1337 gamerz", Razer mice is alright on the other hand :). Confirming that Razer drivers are generally awful, even if the tech is nice. Also, the mouse cord wears out easily. The mouse is a bigger issue than the keyboard because of that, and the fact it needs to have the usb cable swapped to a different port everytime you boot the PC as it doesn't do anything but right-click menu otherwise. Mine anyway, regardless of the PC; though possibly specific to Windows. zubzubzubzubzubzubzubzub |

Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000
After getting used to the split design, all of my pain is gone. Pain I've had in my wrists for over twenty years, and such pain that comes back within hours of using a standard keyboard.
All top-function keys can be rebound or macroed, and the shift/alt/ctrl switches are easy to reach for three times the hotkeys. |

I got a g15 in working order, at the bottom of my closet - because I upgraded to this.
Main reason was I wanted a mechanical keyboard for so long and the rubberyness of the logitech grated after a while - and the g19 my friend had was no different than the g15 in response, feel and overall build quality.
Plus, it kinda felt like the g19 was too ostentatious and toy-like.
I have to add I do play other games, mainly FPS, and can vouch for this keyboard wholeheartedly under very long sessions of play.

The most important thing in a keyboard is the switches for the keys, and no matter all the led/screen gimmick logitechs still use cheapo membrane switches. http://www.minerbumping.com/ lol what the christ https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2299984#post2299984 |

Gonna quote a few things for OP.
Quote:Mechanical keyboards are all about feel. Mechanical keyboards feel better to type on it terms of the key presses. They aren't going to stop hurting your wrists or anything if you have that problem with any other keyboard. They also won't do crap for your gaming performance. Again it's about the typing experience. Or in this case the gaming experience. It's honestly a small thing, but to some of us it's major. It doesn't matter to me for gaming, but for typing, it makes a world of difference. I can't stand the way membrane based units feel. Also mechanical keyboards should outlast their membrane counterparts. So while they are typically 2 to 3 times more expensive, they'll probably last 5x longer.
Something to think about.
This is like the thing with audiophiles who need the amp for their very expensive headphones so they can "apparently" notice superior sound
Here's a diagram with switch types (scroll down 'til you see gifs)
Just don't get a mechanical keyboard for the sake of getting one, its the "cool thing to own nowadays for bragging rights", like when mp3 players first came out.
Its not going to magically make you better at eve or other games and people on voip are going to complain that they can hear you using a typewriter.
TLDR: Don't get a mechanical keyboard unless you REALLY need/want one. Save your money. Better yet, go physically test one/few out and see how it feels......... "That's okay it annoys me when people pile on new definitions to the word sandbox every time CCP does something they don't like." - Alara IonStorm GD is where 60% of threads make you dumber and 10% which provide you with entertainment, the remaining 30% is a mix of both. |
