I wrote this because I felt this needed to be said. I really hope people read this and understand how unique this game truely is.
I originally played EvE during beta, I remember the tedious 20 jumps to make money on trade routes and the never ending questions in my head. I didn't purchase the game because I simply didn't understand it.
Now that it has been over a year since release, I decided to take a stab at it. I was impressed at the help channel, that really saved me from leaving again. My questions were answered and it was fun speaking with other n00bs and sharing our experiences. A lot of people worry about the new-player experience.. I would worry just a little bit. This game definitely takes patience and time to understand. I quickly began working on my skills and leveling the "Learn" skills since everyone suggested to do it first.
Before I go on, I would like to explain why I joined this game.
The depth. CCP took a huge risk in doing what it did. And honestly, I think it will paid off a hundred fold. I have never seen a dev team take such a risk in doing what they did. The open-ended feeling to this game is truely remarkable. Reading the politics and the stories of these alliances and all the wars/history with-in them, is just one of the many things that makes EvE ... EvE. You won't find another game with the tools and opportunities to truely build your own Empire. With the release of COSMOS, Empires will have even more tools.
Now... A lot of people say that the game is tedious and boring. Yes. It very much is. This game however, is not meant for people who are looking for "instant" gratification or "instant" rewards. This game really makes you work, even if it's doing tedious jobs, to get what you need/want.
I joined this game because it's so open-ended and the depth is un-beatable. CCP you took a risk, and I will support you ten-fold for implementing a concept that hasn't been touched by any other devs with any other game. American / Korean MMO's don't even touch the PVP aspect.
Which brings me to another point, PVP means something. Guild Wars didn't attract me because PvP was about duking it out in a arena and a ladderboard... in EvE, PvP is very meaningful. Corp Wars, Alliance Wars, if you lose, you lose your home. Your fricken Home! What greater reason could you fight for? With COSMOS, it'll hopefully make it even more meaningful, now you'll be losing special traits and belts.
I really went all over in this writing, however, I want to say.. Don't change the concept. 0.0 even though I know won't be accessible for me for a pretty long time, and I really have no ambition to be in 0.0 yet because I know it's not my place... not yet.
0.0 to me could use small tweaks, but it is perfect. Their is suppose to be FEAR and some reverence to 0.0, it's not a place for the faint-hearted or the slow thinker.
EVE is what it is, because of the incredible risk CCP took with it's concept of what a MMO should be.
I joined a corp, Solar Wind. Awsome bunch of guys, we do organized things and I am loving it. Hopefully Solar Wind will join the ranks of those in 0.0 space in the future when it has even more meaning and worth.
and to let everyone know, that I a nub, trial account user, love this game. And now am more then glad to be paying it monthly with my 12 day old, 230k SP char. :)
