I agree with what others have said. Please don't go through with this, or leave us with the option to use the old font. The new one is really awful. Oh, right. /sign

Originally by: Antinea Does someone have a screenshot of the latest/new fonts on SiSi, or are we really going to be stuck with this monstruosity? ... If this is the case I guess I am going to be stuck in station with all chat windows minimized until the yells have reached epic proportions on the forums, once everyone has had the "chance" to experience all that live on Tranquility, and CCP finely decide to work on a better font. ... But hey, I guess I had to do that anyway to train all the new skills CCP kindly provided me to partially unnerf my missiles.
Screenshot of OLD
and
NEW
FONT.
The new one is larger so you cant have as much text without scrolling-especially bad for chat windows ;(
And it is too bright ! I m used to a greyish font color - like here on the forums Picture all this in large WHITE LETTERS striking out from the background---unreadable for longer periods of time !
LESS (contrast) _is_ MORE !

CCP want to break into the korean/japanese/russian etc markets, in order to do that the client has to support chat fonts using other than latin-based characters, thats the reason they had to re-write the chat system.
Also most of the font problems beyond legibility were solved already when they pre-nerfed the new font system - removing all but italics from normal channels I believe. I think that was already said earlier in this thread, but I suspect it has gone beyond the length where most new people to it will actually read it to realize that.
So Zyrla--That means you like it the way it is with the new patch and those choices between BIG and HUGE ?
Breaking into a market is one thing, but alienating your current playerbase with not even giving a choice to set to your used look and feel is another.
Keep all that new stuff, just ADD AN OPTION to switch back to the old font (at your own risk) and maybe adjust its output color for the client !
Thanks, Myra
added bolding to my text you quoted where you apparently mis-read me.
Half the point of the original post that people kept quoting and going /signed to was complaining about people using 32 point magenta font in trade channel etc - which was already solved weeks ago.
I'm assuming the old font they used is completely incompatible with the new system, I seriously doubt they are trying to alienate people on purpose.
Edit : and I actually find the new one a little more legible, it was always an issue that you couldn't make the old one larger for high resolutions : though of course doing just that : making it an option, is always the best way. . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

yep, contrast will have to go down because of that font, which makes Eve *dark*. And that really does grt frustrating after a while (tiring on the eyes, and you miss a lot of the pretty stuff)

Edited by: Craven Waycrest on 03/07/2005 22:39:16 Any new change to the fonts would be a welcome one. The current fonts are fine, but they are way too small. I like to play the game on my 55" TV but I have to run it in 1920x1080 interlaced, but I am unable to read pretty much any text because it is too small. And since there is no support for a resolution under 1024x768, I can't change the res to run it on the TV frienly 1024x540. More and more people are getting Home Theatre PC (HTPC's), so this is really a smart move. The best solution would be able to change the font size on the client side.
I like to new voice, but I'm used to the old voice. Just my 2 cents.

All good and valid points, just leave the 1024x768 users - such as me - a font they ALSO can live with. and a less brighter one too please.
From what you just posted you know how it can be and I feel with you- Happy to see your problem solved ;)
Lets hope they let us do something client sides or let us select that font when at lower resolutions.

EVE gets its resolution list from your graphics card's video drivers.
If its a nvidia card you can go: Display properties > settings > advanced > geforce whatever > screen resolutions and refresh rates > add > scroll down > I accept > then fill in the custom resolution you want and voilla, next time you run eve you have that resolution as an option. . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

indeed drop the new font stuff as well as the custom colors, unless this is your way to get people out into 0.0 to avoid the spam

Not trying to argue/flame with you, but because the game limits the lowest resolution to 1024x768, I can't change it to 1024x540. So unless they make a provision for this, us HTPC guys must either have a TV that supports 720P and lose the bottom 6 lines, or run it at the crazy high 1920x1080.
The current fonts look great on my laptop @ 1280x800, so I can understand everyone's complaint on new bigger fonts. User control of the font is the way to go. I can't get on the test server yet to check it out, but I can only guess that's not there based on what everyone else has said.

The chat window has now THREE ( 3!) different font sizes to cater to each one of us. Brightness is slightly reduced as well.
The smalfont really looks much cooler now than the pre-cold war expansion one ! Good job
Its truly amazing to see yet again that CCP listens to us players, a thing that makes it unique among MMORPGs - thanks lots !!

Ah I see, With that case I think I'd have a sneaking suspicion that the interface elements (the er Neocom? on the left in space and station services panels when docked) are designed with a minimum height of 768 in mind, so even if you could put it into a smaller resolution it would lop off part of the interface.
Having witnessed how much work it seems to take for interface changes I can't say as I'd be very hopefull they would divert man-hours over to changing that for a few people with TV's . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

Overall this is a great patch CCp, but there are just 2 things which I (and many other people) have a prob with -Its all very well giving us new texts and comp voice but what ur not giving us is options to change then back! You take somthing away from us - we will miss it. I miss the old computer voice lady! Having a dull, boring, sleepy comp voice makes the game dull, simple as that. And no shes not sexy!

Adding my insignificant name to this list.
Please, bring the old fonts and old voice back. There are brilliant elements to the patch, but UGH... I can't stand hearing "AWWW-TOE-PIE-LOT ENGAGED" anymore. Not when the previous recording was better.

I have to agree.. the voice is bad, the fonts are hard on the eyes.
Also the targeting rectile now has little arrows circling aroundanyting that you target that just drives me nuts and dizzy at the same time.
And anyting that you target now gets the targeting lines that stay for ever. hae you targeted more than one thing yet to see how your screen gets really messy really quick and just destroyes the feel for beign in space.

Two unnecessary changes methinks too...hopefully preventable
Also issues with graphics here:
Before patch maneuvering/orientation was easy even at greater distances seeing the somewhat oversized blast of the ships. But now I cannot see it at smaller views. Also some weird changes with the zoom function. There is zoom-steps in between where the ship seems to vanish completely then appearing again only as tiny shiny spot at smaller scales. No good.
And why does undocking with deactivated Modules and no powergrid left get prevented now?
Nonetheless promising patch for many reasons, looking forward.
