Would you consider it stealing a site if someone warped into a complex you had already started and just began racing for the Boss/end loot? Technicalities aside, I'm just speaking on a very general basis. None of that "Depends on how far I am into the site" |

Figuratively, yes.. you did all the work for someone to take the treasure. Technically, only if the loot was already flagged as yours. |

No, it isn't stealing unless the wreck is yellow and the guy gets a suspect flag at which point you can shoot him. I have an alt character for just this purpose. I let the tech 3s clear the site then I grab the loot in a crappy frigate they are afraid to shoot. |

I'm assuming they think it's the type of scenario where they shoot and you warp in with your main and own them while the frigate tackles to keep them there.

I consider all sites "fair game". If I'm in the site and someone warps in, I expect a race to the finish line. Let the best man win.
If I warp in and there's another dude running the site, it's again a race.
I've "stolen" sites and had a lot "stolen" from me. It's a part of the game. And hey let's be honest. It brings a lot of excitement into running the sites, which usually are boring-as-hell.
Hi OP. I recall your name but can't remember if it was you stealing my site or me stealing yours. Sorry if I stole from you, expect me to do it again if we meet at the same site :D

Most sites where it's worth stealing anything are gated, you should have more then enough time to shoot the frig, loot it and warp out. GÇ£The best way to keep something bad from happening is to see it ahead of time, and you can't see it if you refuse to face the possibility.GÇ¥ |

One time, in a serpentis phi outpost. I scanned it down, went to get my ship, got back and a Tengu was already finishing it. We raced to the operator in the second room and were both damaging him. He got the kill and the loot, so I began salvaging in front of him.
He mistakenly thought that salvaging made me a viable target, forgot that we were in highsec, and blasted himself to kingom come.
The salvage and materials left by his corpse were worth 2 Serpentis Phi Outposts. |

I have my doubts and my own opinion, but my opinion is based on a very self imposed moral code I go by. This in itself is open to many flaws. So time to time I will ask questions to get other people opinions on things so that I may formulate a better idea in my head on how I should view and approach things. |

I do remember you, but you never stole from me. You entered the same site I was doing (The name of the complex eludes me) and proceeded to attempt to race for to end. However, I do not believe you were able to obtain the item as I would have remembered that and given you a bounty bigger than one million.
However, I may have my persons mixed up. All the same, you have never succesfully taken from the same site as one I was running.

I don't consider it stealing. Basically, those sites are out there. And everyone has to put effort into it to fly them. And if i scan down a site, i want to fly it. And if someone else has scanned it out before me, i will contest it. I didn't spend 5 minutes per system to be like 'Oh, i'm so sorry i warped in onto you, have a good day sir!'. And i will try to show him that i can run the site more efficient, and that i can probe the sites down as fast as he can. So he will be like '**** you, i'm out, can't get any loot from here anyways'.
EVE is PvP, unless you stay docked and spin your ship. And even there is competiton. |

Yep, but I'm doubtful that you do. I think you assume I can't use tactics to kill your exploration ship with the same frigate I steal with and need logi backup?...or maybe you think there is no way to carry spare keys for the locked ones and use d-scan to see if the overseer has been popped in the room the Tenjew is in? What am I missing here? Please entertain us with a "How pocket gates work" guide. |

You haven't done exploration until you've had an unsolicited Tengu warp into the same site as you
If I warp to a site and someone else is already running it, I'll extend some common courtesy and wish them good luck and move on.*
If I'm in a site and someone else comes in, they are most welcome to try and beat me to the loot, may the best man win. If the wreck turns white for them and yellow for me, I'll try taking the loot and they better be prepared to shoot me if they want it.
* This does not apply to the special snowflakes who think Lookouts are for mining. Seriously, go find a grav or an asteroid belt or something. Shoo. |

I have found some of the eve mechanics amusing from day one.
I've had people warp in to a missions that started salvaging. I said "hello" no response. I've made the wrecks blue and said "you can have them you know" and he still just salvaged. I've had people order me to give them mission loot, obviously trying to trap me into maybe shooting so they can bring backup ... just the other day one mate got killed in a mission Dominix in 0.9 space, and he's still not sure what he did to stop CONCORD showing up, I looked up the Dirt Nap Squad corp/alliance and most of their high kill players are only killing mission ships in hisec all the time, including Navy Ravens and Golems.
To me, THAT is stealing. That crap was on my ship to start with :)
Complexes? What's in there isn't yours, it belongs to the NPC's, you;re trying to steal it from THEM. If another player does it faster, well, there's no honor amongst thief's. |

I feel a bit bad. I stole Guristas Guerilla Grounds from a fellow capsuleer yesterday. Poor chap had already done the first 5 rooms and jumped into the last room about 30 seconds before me. I though I'd still follow up and see. He was happily shooting the rats when I entered, went straight to the boss, shot him, looted and warped off.
The thing I feel bad about is that the boss had no faction loot. All that excitement for nothing!

I've heard of people running sites and salvaging all the wrecks, and shooting all the other rats besides the boss rat... in those cases I guess they didn't want his loot anyway... right? |

Haha! It would have dropped the C-Type shield booster if the original capusleer had killed the dread :D That's Karma for you.
I also thought that it was "stealing" a complex when I was starting out a few months into EVE, and I got really really worked up about it. Try complaining to those stealing, 3 times out of 4 I got a 10 Million payout from the "stealer" seeing as I was a noob at that time. It might work!
The 4th time was taking the biscuit though, when a Tengu stole the 4/10 loot from me, then proceeded to tell me it was a C-Type Invuln... grr! And he got his corpmate to follow in behind in a 2nd tengu to try to kill me!
I guess it's just one of those things, gotta just deal with it (even though it is highly annoying).
Originally, I was gonna go down the route that if someone else was already in the site when I got there, I would honorably leave it alone, but I've since changed my mind on that. Noone else honors this, and a 2nd or 3rd person would most likely come along and steal anyway, so I just go ahead and compete. |
