Hi All, I just wonder, what drives people to stuff their shiny ass-fat t1ships with precious cargo items and without ANY booster(s) or hardeners nor warp core stabs on. I have just come across, while browsing through and checking the small t1 transport ships. It seems that a lot people just want their ass blown up and loosing high price tagged items lost and dropped to some lucky dudes or pirates in most cases. I have got no clue what is the mechanics in their brains to go damn risky with no shield protection like simple shield booster or at leasta hardener plus core stabs :) I will gladly await best kill links, and maybe we find the biggest w(h)inner ?:):):) |

Well, first of all, a shield booster will do you no good. And second, some people likes to take risks, are lazy or just stupid. |

If someone wants to blow you up for your cargo, they generally have more than enough firepower on hand to alpha you.
As for why people run through low sec in an Ibis carrying 100 PLEXES...well.. there really is no good answer to that... plain old common sense would say that its a.....stupid thing to do... i'll just leave it at that :)

I am still not secure with that boosting shield will not save you from killing your ship. A few sh boosters plus warp stabs would prolly save your ship from getting into pieces. My link shows just one guy doing the whole job :) and Concord prolly intervenes fast enough to get him smacked before you get. |

Are you meaning shield extender when you keep repeating booster? Do you know what an alpha strike is? Do you know how much a tornado alpha strike is?
Overall though, it'd be easier to pay someone else 10M to haul the stuff for you than even risk it.

I prefer warp stabs + shield extenders instead of boosters. I'll throw in a nano if I want some align speed in favour of warp stability. But yeah, even fitting a few cheap T1 mods and rigs will save your ship on many occasions. In fact, the majority of the gatecamps I have passed with a Hoarder, I survived because I was fitted well. Off course there's always a chance of a few nados alpha-ing you, but the majority of gatecampers I meet just put a point on me and eat a percentage of shields. |

I do not knot the specifics about the alpha although I have come across this notion many times, but as a no-pvper I wil gladly get a notion of it. And I would agree that paying a % of what can be lost would justify it. I just presume that when someone wants to use a t1 ship for high price items hauling it is just only high sec, no low/null including. Bearing that in mind, as a manufacturer and able to use a freighter I would just get all things into the big ship to decrease the risk of being killed. Still waiting for your info about he Alhpa strike :0 |

Certain weapons, notably Arty, do a huge amount of damage per shot. This big chunk of damage done all at once is called an Alpha strike. If large enough it can simply pop a target before it has a chance to turn on shield boosters or any other active defense.
It's simply a case of lock, boom, and done in less time than it takes to read those two words.
Note that Arty are not considered over powered because their very slow rate of fire means that their actual damage per second is fairly modest.
Tornados in particular are favored for their Alpha Strike capability (fast lock time and big damage per shot). To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |

Reason 1: high sec is safe, or so some believe until proven otherwise. Reason 2: people get told that afk hauling is safe if you avoid low sec. Seen that in starter NPCorps. Reason 3: hauling is boring, 'hmm oh now thats some cuty on the tele, oh mai, hey whats that irritation beeping coming from my computer? Oh shi...!'
Alpha attack is first attack. If the first row of damage is more then the ship's defenses the ship will just pop. Hi, I'm CCP Arrow, I screwed up the.. ummm... |

Ok, tx got it fully. I have seen many posts with the Alhpa one, but still if there is only one party involved stabs and hardeners should save the day, right? Anyway, for me it is sheer stupidity that there is nothing to protect your ship whatsoever, even the minimal skills are required for the basic things. |

Freighters are also not immune. I believe 12-15ish (maybe 20) Tornadoes can take a freighter down in a 0.5 system. If your cargo is worth 2X more than the cost of the gank you will most likely be a target.

Now that alpha strike has been explained I'd like to point out shield extenders simply add a raw amount of HP to your shields. In other words, if some dude does 4999 alpha strike and you would have 5000 EHP because of your shield extenders, you would live. If you only had 4800 EHP you would die... and being able to boost your shields wouln't matter. So hence, I prefer to wrap my precious cargo in large amounts of EHP instead of fitting boosters. |

This happens because some people are naturally lazy or stupid, or both. They have the "It will never happen to me" mentality that permeates modern Western civilization.
And even if it does happen to them, they don't change their ways, because they're victims, and they should be protected (not realizing that in Eve, your protection is in your own hands). And after all, lightning never strikes twice (until it does).

Agreed. Sheer buffer and high resists are the way to go. Bumping, leave it alone. |

Haulers shoud not be exclusively protected, I think, but there is another thing going on in their minds I suppose - the time of delivery. With pricey items a small ship makes the trips within 15 mins lets say 20 jumps, whereas for the freighter it would take 40 minutes +/-. Curious still, what is the driving force for them as for example hauling t3 ships and their components is damn risky compared to assembling them and putting fittings on :) Just the thing is, if one does not have skills to fly the ships in cargo one is better off to leave them off anyhow. |

They think CCP has effectively taken the profit out of ganking with the last few patches, not realizing that hauling 1b worth of stuff in an industrial on autopilot still makes them profitable. |

Wrong, warp core stabilizers won't help you forget them, HP buffer and resistance mods and rigs all the way.

There's two somethings that protect your ship, the EHP skills in your characters sheet and the mods you fit onto your ship BEFORE you undock.

As someone who sometimes runs BPOs and BPCs in a nearly untanked frigate, sometimes speed and sneakiness matters more than tank. I mean, I COULD haul them in a BS or orca, but a speed-fit frigate is just quicker, and I can clear the mass of haulage in a hurry. |
