I am having an issue where my 425 mm auto cannons keep missing sanshas. Either I am 10km or 15km away. Within my optimal range. I am even fitting 2 TE II and 2 Gyro II, Any idea what I can do to resolve this issue? |

The gyros are irrelevant, they just add damage, what ship are you flying and are you trying to reduce transversal? (a¦á_a¦â) ~ (my spaceblog) http://getoutnastyface.blogspot.co.uk/~ (a¦á_a¦â) |

That is not within your optimal range.

I thought I was supposed to be concerned about optimal plus falloff, not just optimal.

You only do 40% of your expected DPS and will be missing fully half the time based just on range (not tracking) at optimal + falloff. Add in some movement and you're doing below 40% of your EFT-Optimal DPS and missing more than half the time.
-Liang
Ed: The sweet spot tends to be at optimal + half falloff, though it depends on tracking because optimal and under can be better. Normally on 5:00 -> 9-10:00 Eve (Aus TZ?) Wow, I guess I did not realize that. I am trying to fit a good ratter, that has some PVP functionality, in case someone comes in on our miner while we are mining in .4. I was under the impression that the hurricane was one of the best for this. |

I did assume it was a Cane. I like 220's on a Cane myself. I DO get up close and personal, and I do 667 DPS with 220's and 2 Heavy Launchers. Kills frigs dead, fast. |

Doesnt it take a while to close the distance? I mean, if I fit the MWD, my signature skyrockets and I assume it makes my ship as easy to hit as a barn door. |

I wouldn't worry about the damage you'll take. It's fairly minimal, really. If you don't want to get close though, you can always fit artillery.

So basically, stick in optimal range, no more than half of falloff at most, and what about tracking? What is the sweet spot for tracking? I have been playing this game on and off for three years and still dont have a firm grasp on the whole tracking thing

Yeah, if your in belts in .4 systems there are no battleships. So you battlecruiser is already a 'barn door' for anything BC or smaller. They can all hit you easily. MWD will not change how small ships hit you, but it may give you the ability to change range quickly or gtfo if needed. |

Transveral always lowers your DPS. It also lowers your enemy's turret DPS. Thus it comes down to whether you want to apply more DPS or avoid more DPS. When ratting, you want to apply more DPS... so transversal is probably bad as a whole. You can turn transversal (or radial velocity) on in your overview settings.

So then my orbit should be whatever the optimal range of my guns are, regardless of signature?

So is lower transversal better or worse in general? |

^^ this. Don'tbother with orbiting just approach. reduces your angular velocity and allows you to apply more DPS. That is the Way, the Tao.
Balance is everything.

I think I have it, if I fly at a target that is flying at me, lower transversal, means damage outgoing and incoming goes up, but higher transversal, means if I fly north and the other is approaching, damage goes down? Is this pretty much it?

OP, no offense, but I don't think you have any business flying bc in low sec. If any half competent gang shows up in your .4, you will probably loose that bc. Life is short and dinner time is chancy Eat dessert first! |
