Will these be put back in game? I think it would be great cause they could be used to make life interesting for people attacking POS, or used around a warp bubble

What'd you want that for? I mean, veldspar giving trit is bad enough, but mining a field is just going to give you a large pile of worthless dirt.

LOL TOO FUNNY
No I would want to set then up for defense and as space way hazzard like someone warping to safe spot just leave a field of mines there and as soo as they come back in "Nooooo!!! BOOM BOOM"

Mines were funny.
I used to locate large batches of secure containers in 0.0 near mining spots, but away from stations, then seed the warp-in point with a load of mines. Hauler comes in, hauler goes boom.
That and dropping for missile defence.

so does that mean you can no longer do that or that mines will no longer function?

You can't use mines anymore, they used to be launched with missile launchers but no more.

Awwww, they sound like an awesome idea. Especially during Corp Wars. Have them set to attack people in the opposing corps and then BOOOM when they come through the gate. Same thing in 0.0 space except you could set them to attack EVERYONE but allies.
Just think, new classes of ships could be made or new modules like:
Minelayer Ships: designed to seed minefields. Cargo bays could be set to hold mines only. What you do is select a pattern of them or design you own pattern and the ship would lay them.
Minelayer Drones: for use on Mine layer ships to help speed the mine-laying up a little bit. Could also be used on Covert Ops ships to allow them to seed some mines behind enemy lines or at enemy gates.
Friend or Foe Mines: designed for Corporation Wars or 0.0 space. In Empire space, war must already be declared before they can be used otherwise the Corporation has to pay a fee to Concord for an obstruction to their gates. In 0.0 space they can be laid at any time.
Capacitor Drain Mines: designed to operate like Nosferatu Cap Drainers. This disables a ship for a preset amount of time before the mines overload due to the influx of power and explode. This way you could disable or partially disable an attack force and then pick them off as needed.
Tracking Mines: designed to attach to an enemy ship and track them back to their HQs or maybe to where they store a lot of their goods. Great for ambushes or for taking out ships during hauling or mining. Can be taken off at a station only.
AI Mines: these mines attach themselves to an enemy ship and stay there until a preset amount of parameters has been met. For example X number of that corporations ships are in one place or the ship is near a Concord or opposing Empire's ships/stations. The mine then causes the ship to explode and sent out a damaging wave. This causes the pilot, if near a Concord or Empire area to be labeled as dangerous and KOS.
Hehehe, imagine the subterfuge that could be done with THAT type of mine. You could also have one more type of ship and that is the:
Minesweeper ships: designed to remove a certain amount of mines. Lower level ships just destroy them, higher level ships disable the mines and/or allow you to convert them to your own use.
An interesting new module could be:
Minesweeper module: sends out an EMP pulse to attempt to disable/destroy the enemy mines. If successful the mine is disabled/destroyed and you can pass. If not...BOOM!
All of these mines could be either cloaked or uncloaked but cloaked mines become exponentially more expensive and require higher levels depending on what type of mine is being used.
This is just a suggestion but personally I think it would be awesome to see mines back in the game!! And just THINK of all the FUN you could have with them!
CCP and Devs, think about it and tell me that you too get a twisted little smile too when you think about it!
Thanks!

Wow! Cool ideas Xenex. Only thing I don't quite like out of those mines are the AI ones. I think they could become a bit too powerful.

Edited by: James Lyrus on 15/06/2005 06:43:59 I think we should have mines, of which we can deploy a number of them in a 1km area, and have a sensor that tells you how many are in adjacent squares, and so you can sort pick your way through the field.
In fact, I think this is such a good idea, I've bashed together a prototype interface: EVE Mine detection module

If you think you can do a better job, go find yourself a datacentre to host a box, get a copy of Visual Studio, and STFU.

Wasn't the problem with mines, something about someone putting thousands of the friggin things out? All of em go off at once, and buh-bye node....If they bring mines back, I hope they limit the ammount that can be placed in a single system ***********************************

I recall that the developers had said in a chat, a blog, a posting or had sent a carrier pigeon message that Mines would be used only in POS defense in the future.

limit each player to 50 per system is an idea - POS defense well now could be time to bring em back in in a balanced limited and removable way as well.
