With all the information available about DUST, I wonder if the PI aspect of EVE will be handed over to them? Sounds like a fair chunk of their income will be from the planets they conquer and invest in for themselves.
I would also like to know if the llivestock found on the EVE market (freedom fighters, marines, little female helpers, etc..) will be involved in the DUST ground wars. I ask because a vid I saw on PI a few months ago on talked about capsuleers being able to hire NPC warriors to defend their PI and command them from orbit if the planet was invaded.
I am interested in getting into PI, and I wonder if I should buy heaps of livestock? If your liberty is won by others then you are not free, you are merely protected. Your freedom is parasitic and you suck the honourable man dry. You who have enjoyed freedom, who have done nothing to earn it, your time has come. This time you will stand alone and fight for yourselves. Now you will pay for your freedom in the currency of honest toil and human blood |

PI will belong to us capsullers, it may change(?) a bit when Dust will get in beacause outside FW there would be no point of fighting for those planets.
Don't think they will give the livestock a role in it, but hey who knows(?). |

Apparently, the mercs of Dust 514 will be available for hire to protect the PI structures.
How true that is I don't really know. Only 40 rounds per gun... I hate reloading in the middle!

We'll see what happens when it's released, but I doubt mercs will enjoy boring old guard duty. If your liberty is won by others then you are not free, you are merely protected. Outside of NDA sources all answers are pointing towards NO.
Dust bunnies cannot destroy your PI.
They can however as suggested by one developer at fan fest last year make it not worth it if they activate a resource booster but decide to tax you for using it.

They won't actually have to sit for 23.5/7 waiting for an attack.
Pro Info: Dust 514 clones have no jump clone cool down timer.
Logically, it is likely that attackers will have to gain the foothold, while defenders merely jumpclone to their stuffs. |

I find PI tediously painful, and would not wish it on DUST 514 players.
BUT... My best friend loved PI, and said that she would re-sub tomorrow if they came out with a way to do PI on her Android smartphone.
YMMV? |

Funny you mentioned that because the CSM minutes mentioned that as well...
I can see it being possible if they allowed PoCo's to sell stuff directly.
Who knows maybe a separate tyrant mini-game where their players perform a finer art of Pi and PI pvp setting up armed colonies and defenses and contracting dust 514 mercs to take out defenses or hiring eve players to wipe out colonies from orbit.
It would be the ultimate farm-ville.

I always hoped that PI stuff would be the components we (as Dust Players) would construct tanks and stuff out of. |

Agreed; and it sounds kinda sweet (and gives a "human" PVE opponent).
And yah. I mentioned the tablet idea from the CSM minutes, so no coincidence or prescience on my part, but she ran with the smartphone angle. (Dang engineers keep dragging their skills into game! ) |

Somewhere in the CSM minutes, there was a dev commenting that he wished PI was a standalone Civ style tablet game and not in Eve.
I do not know. I do think it does make sense that the Dust bunnies would eventually want player built districts and such. Maybe that could figure int PI, too?
I woulld love it if PI actually changed the battlefield layout and these things were actual, physical objectives. |

Well, you have to remember that even though the idea of PI and Dust interacting on such a level is great those games must still be able to retain their independence. One game should not need the other to achieve a goal (harvesting material, setting up colonies, building tanks and installations, etc.). However both games should be linked in a way that helps players from both sides to recognize the benefits of working together. The is already a clear example of that right now in faction warfare. Eve players can still take FW systems on their own and dust mercs can still play matches on their own and both still achieve their objectives, but their progress and efforts would be much better if they team up and coordinate. Until such time 5-7 years in the future if both Eve and Dust are still going.
For some reason, I see the lines between PC, Console, and Tablet beginning to blur.
Maybe eventually DUST will become a seamless part of Eve and Eve will become a seamless part of Dust in a real sense. Instead of different servers feeding data into each other, the actual games would merge where Eve pilots can train DUST skills and Mercs could train Eve skills and move from flying in space to shooting in face on one client.
Yeah... |
