I think part of this problem lays in the ease and profit in making a BP copy. Personally, I think that BP's shouls only be allowed 1 copy per research level, and the cost to make a copy should be about 25% of the original cost. By doing it this way, corps can not make 1 copy for use the do massive copy runs for sale.
What I see happening is less and less corps are making large items for sale, like ships. They are making ships for internal use and making BP copies to make money on. As more and more BP's enter the game, the prices drop with supply and demand for these items.
The game has progressed to quickly, in my humble opinion. Here we are in our fourth month and already battleships are begining to feel the supply and demand pinch, with prices already dropping. As the game progresses, newer people will find the economy that was so rich for us early people, non existant. The EVE economy will spiral ever downward until it's barely profitable to manufacture.
I think several things can help here. Limiting factory and R&D space, raising costs to copy and adding costs to research. Increasing the production time for large items. If a Stabber cruiser took a week to build, would the price drop so dramatily?
If a calulation such as (mamimum members/10) were used, that number could represent many things. Call it the corporate index or something. Lets assume we are dealing with a corp with a max membership of 100. It's index would be 10. That mean it can have a max of 10 factories and R&D slots total, and 10 offices. This cleans up a lot of mess and forces CEO's to be played rather than being dummy characters, as skills need to constantly be improved. A new company would have access to 1 factory and get 1 R&D as soon as Corporate Management reached level 2. Next, raise the cost of making a BP copy to 25% of the original. 1 copy can be made per Research level. Add the cost to Research to 100K per level of Mineral Efficiency or Time Eficiency. Have the production run show an honest and accurate COST to manufacture.
These things may help ensure that the economy works better. In the real world, most of the cost of an item is due to the R&D put into it, not the cost to make it.
