I last tried FW before the update that increased the profit margins on it. I found that I could find a fleet and we would derp around for up to three hours before finding a fight and the fights were usually pretty lopsided and short when they did occur.
Since the change, what is FW like? How long does it take to find a fight (as compared to just flying around low-sec), to find a fleet (if you aren't in a big corp.) and what are the fights like? Buff Low-Sec: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2400257#post2400257 |

It is rare when I log on and can't get a fight in the first five minutes of my game time. Everyone has home systems and those systems are no more then 1 - 4 jumps from your own. It's usually a snap to get a few guys together for a road trip and even simpler to go solo. |

Trying to assemble a big fleet, and then trying to get a fight is usually how nullsec people approach FW. Big fleets require a lot of assembly time, and require a similar sized opponent, which also takes a lot of time.
FW is ideal for 1-10 people in gang. Forms up quickly, responds quickly, and lots more opportunities for fights. If you can't get a fight in your 8 man fleet, you simple split up in two gangs of 4 and increase your odds.
However, those who are used to 'assemble the blob', will find it more difficult to find fight, apart from some lucky ganks.

The FW areas of low sec are far more populated if that's what you are asking. So fights in FW low sec would be far more frequent then in non FW low sec. Typically it takes me 10-15 minutes to find a fight after logging on, getting anywhere from 200 to 500 kills a month since inferno.
As far as finding fleets it really depends, as I primarily fly around with my alliance only I am not sure on the frequency of fleets open to all of militia. They happen but I think its fairly rare, maybe once a week. Caldari had one out last night that looked to be open to all of their miltia.
Your best bet is to join and already established FW corp that has access to all the private intel channels and coms. That will get you into all the fleets.
Fights can be anything, from 1v1 to 1v10 to 50v50. If you do plan to roll solo expect and prepare to be outnumbered in most engagements.

Good Sir;
In the Siseide/Dal area there is lots of fighting when the server passes 40,000. I don't fight much, but I get shot at about every 10 minutes or so while plexing. I see lots of pods.

Quickest way to find a fight is to look in the FW window for the systems that are the most contested. |

Depends on the FC, overly cautious FCs tend to make it so that fights either take hours leading up to them, or that they don't happen at all. I recall a certain FW FC that refused to fight a BC fleet with their BS+logi fleet and then asked that the BC fleet move off a regional gate ("Jump into us!", "No you!"). The BC fleet FC was bored to tears, and obliged. Balls were still deep inside the chest of the BS fleet FC so the fight didn't "happen" for another hour when the BS fleet finally came and RnK bridge in a ton of T3's to wreck the BS fleet (BC fleet warped away and was safe at a pos and just watched the BS fleet die when trying to run away), neither FW militia got a fight after so much time investment waiting around (both sides ran or died trying), so moral of the story is find a FC with balls that a) knows what they are doing (somewhat), and b) is willing to risk losing a fleet if it means getting a good fight, and doesn't mind welping in the pursuit of pew pew.
A lot of time is wasted when two militias have eyes in eachothers home systems and they play the "reship to counter enemy gang 100% or don't fight" game. Before you know it you've been reshipping or refusing to jump into each other for an hour or more. The new FW system gets away from a lot of this, because plexing now creates a sense of urgency so people don't bore both their fleet and the enemy gang to death by trying to get the perfect fleet comp to counter the enemy gang, but it can still happen. Be thankful that there is meaning to plex fighting now because it creates lots of frequent fights compared to hours sitting around waiting for the other gang or your FC to engage prior to inferno. FW fights are abundant... more so than most orther regions of the game...
FW fights are also a different type of engagement.... the plex limitations, the abundance of allies and enemies in nearby systems, and the overuse of fleet boosting creates a very different dynamic when compared to roaming nullsec/lowsec gangs, to Sov/POS fights, to hotdrop gangs, or camps.

But he meant the opposite: fighting in FW gets you more action more quickly than traditional fleets. |

How big are your fleets and what is the fleet comp you are running? Three hours is an awefully long time to get a fight that is anti climatic.
Since the Retribution Expansion, I have increased my kills which average 100/month to 200 for the month of December and will likely be the same for January. I have a healthier number of solo and/or 1v2 or 1v3 encounters as well due to Tiercide and plexing changes. This, despite the fact that I never considered myself someone who was eager to find solo fights before Retribution. This was because the target was most likely 70KM off the accel gate and would fly nano/shield stuff thus already dictating range.
Within the warzone, you can definitely find small gang fights of 3-8 easily. You increase your odds of finding a fight if you have good intel and know your enemies well. At this point into the game, I've gathered fairly solid intel on most opposing militia corps as well as the local pirate corps. I know who will give me a fair fight, who is simply baiting, who will run, and who just wants to farm.
