I want a tractor beam to put in my extra high slot on raven so i can suck cans to me w/o moving while huntin. Unfortunately can't think of ne other ship it would be good for.

that would be overly powerful, cos then the rewards of being close would be none, and everybody would just snipe the npcs.

Not necessarilly with the snipe tactic. We could redesign Complexes or other npc encounters to be less centralized to even out snipe and close range tactics.
We could have smaller groups of npcs spread out enough that acceleration gates dump you in the middle of everything without dumping you inside a giant blob.
Like we could have a smaller central area, but with 4 groups of non-essential targets spread out much further away, but ready to intercept any kiters.
For every problem there is a simple and inadequate solution.

And what, exactly, are the rewards for getting close? A higher probability of getting killed? Missile boats are meant to snipe, that's what they do. Orbit at 50k, and rain missiles. Tractor beams would be cool.

the rewards for being close is the loot, therefore if u dont have to be close , very few ppl will do it, which is much lamer to me. Sniping npcs is like running lvl3s in a bs, no excitement , which means no fun.
