isnt that a violation of some pirate code or something? i always heard if you r a pirate you honor your ransom price. but then again it seems highly unlikely you mean these kids playing "badasses" know about some legendary pirate codes? They only know 1 pirate - "Jack Sparrow" The Code is the Law |

People who let themselves or others get screwed over because they are too prideful and stubborn to behave rationally to reach a better outcome for themselves are common in EVE.
It takes absolutely nothing to tell everyone to go screw themselves and sit idly as you and the people around you get rectally violated by a mean person.
Agreeing to a ransom requires trust and decisiveness, you need to be able to decide whether or not you should trust the person you're potentially paying to let you go, and you need to make that decision before they decide to kill you right now. Sitting there and getting blown up while yelling profanity doesn't require you to do a goddamned thing.
Similarly CEOs and alliance executors who let their members suffer under wars for months, lose billions in ships and POS towers and end up with most of their players leaving corp or quit the game entirely when they could could have just sent a surrender offer are a dime a dozen. It takes absolutely no effort for someone claiming to be a leader to sit there and watch everything turn to **** around him. Going to the negotiating table takes humility and a legitimate desire to do what will actually help your members out and prevent your organization from being ground to dust.
Playing a reasonably well adjusted human being in EVE is significantly more difficult than playing an insane tough-guy who yells defiantly at everything. The only reason people do it is because it's so easy, I mean it doesn't hurt the person holding you to ransom to refuse it, whether they kill you, get money and let you go or get money and kill you all of those outcomes are acceptable to them, the only person the internet tough-guys are hurting are themselves.
When someone I'm shooting convos me and offers to give me isk to let them go, that's when I'm impressed by how brave they are, they're willing to accept the risk of me not letting them go for a chance at escape, that's why I let them go. And if I declare war on someone the CEO or diplomat convos me and asks what it will take to end the war before it starts I'm incredibly impressed, but out of about 250 wars my corp/alliance had had that one has happened about twice, usually you have to kill a bunch of people before anyone will even think about negotiating. |

There's no details. Apply and we accept. No tax, no rules, no problem. Not many active atm. Have trained many, as soon as they were making billions they robbed the corp and dropped. That's "stressful training" imho. All of them are good pirates and welcome back. You just can't shoot another member... that's the only rule. You can rob or scam them though, that's up to you. You'll build your own rep. We're in Fountain right now and it's a ship blender, but if you can make it there you can make it anywhere in eve. We're in fountain b/c a RL friend of mine decided to finally play eve, and I WAS training him, but he's an insainly dedicated gamer and is already better at PvP than me and is terrorizing fountain. There's lots to hit and lots to learn, but first and foremost it'll be up to you to gleen these skills and start thinking in pirate terms. It's a raw deal but we'll help... so just apply and we'll take you. That's the deal. We can move as much stuff as you need to fountain, but the jump freighter only goes about once a month unless there's a good reason to do more. That's the deal. Apply and you're in. Some people quit right away when they realize there's no hand holding. Up to you. You'll be making over a billion a month with minimal effort in a month though. You'll also make lots and lots of enemies.
Don't wish to trample on this but....I you got something that starts with a D aimed right at your eye. |

TL/DR
give in to blackmail because it's cool and smart.
cough* BULLSHIT *cough
EvE is a harsh game, getting killed (and podded) is part of it. The best thing is to minimize the risk, be the hunter not the pray, if possible. Giving in to blackmail makes you a victim, and once a victim, always a victim.
P.S.
I do salute all who stand by their word.

Sad to see so many people being unreasonable idiots, as usual. It's a game. You keep forgetting that. There are people out there who honor ransoms, you know it, but deliberately act like retards. Inappropriate signature removed. Spitfire |

Giving in to blackmail makes you a victim, and once a victim, always a victim. If you're in a situation where you're being ransomed you're already a victim. But you have a choice: You can try and get yourself out of it somehow or you can type something about someone's mother into local while you sit there and get killed anyway.
It's not brave, it doesn't mean you stood up to anyone, it means you sat there and took it without trying to do a damned thing.
If you thought about it and decided that you don't think the guy will let you go, or that you don't want to set a precedent for paying people off then fine, that's your choice, but pretending that sitting there and getting your butthole destroyed by someone while being a belligerent douche somehow qualifies as standing up to them then I think we have entirely different standards. |

Like a sir. That's the right answer, tbqh. I'd ransom you... so inexperienced, i probably wouldn't ask for that much, but I sure would kill you no matter what you did lol! why was it the right anwser Because even if you paid the ransom they'll probably kill you. I would. Why not? The pirate will probably never see you again anyway, lots of pirates don't honor ransoms, and you never know what the pi+¦ata will drop. isnt that a violation of some pirate code or something? i always heard if you r a pirate you honor your ransom price. but then again it seems highly unlikely You do get the concept of "Pirate" correct? Always expect them to kill your ship and pod you whether or not you pay.. that way you are less disappointed when you pay and they kill/pod you anyways. Are there "honorable" pirates, sure but I wouldn't count on meeting one. Also - don't swear at them, just wish them a nice day, refuse to pay and take whats coming... saying swear words will remove all doubt about whether they will pod you.
Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much. |
