SO I decide to check out these new COSMOS agents the patch introduced. I head to the caldari constellation, find an inspace agent, and grab a level 1 mission. Wants me to fly 1 jump over, and get 5 dogtags.
Sounds like cake right?
Well I get to the deadspace area, and see one of the npc's I need to kill. however, he doesn't drop a tag. Owell, I'll wait for the next spawn.
It's been about 45 minutes now, and theres 4 people sitting in this deadspace pocket. STILL no NPC's. I don't think I have to mention how annoying this situation is. I've already missed my time bonus, and I havn't gotten a single tag yet.
I'm shocked that anyone at CCP thought this was in some way a GOOD idea. The respawn rate is too low for just one person to complete this, let alone multiple players.
Waiting for re-pops and competing with other players for them = BAD GAME DESIGN

If im not wrong certain missions are scripted so only one player can have them active at a time, since you can only do it once , it shouldnt be a problem.

Sengh, you are probably correct, but the problem is that while only one player has mission active, anyone at all can kill the NPCs that have the loot mission runner needs. |

Looks like some dev's like to bring some original *cough* everquest *cough* ideas.
You haven't camped if you haven't played EQ. Now that's camping baby! (a week is a standard for a boss, some drops require 10,000 kills or more)
All in all, bad idea, let's not make eve EQ-in-space

I like the idea. You get to know other mission runners very fast and teaming up for those mission is pretty common, compared to standard missions.
Instead of everyone playing they¦re own little single-player-mission game, you see and feel the presence of the other players.
More like this, I say. If the spot is too camped at the moment, do another mission, there are tons of them.

Bull****. There are only two constellations for the entire EVE universe right now.

Yeah, with roughly 4 or often more agents per system with 3-5 missions average. I¦ve been nonstop in Ani since patch and never had to wait for a respawn personally...

The spawn timer is just too long. Remove the bounties and loot from the COSMOS npcs and make the spawn timer faster = problem solved!

Tell me which mission this is, and I'll take a look at the spawn timer. Could be that it's way too high.
The COSMOS npcs have a very low bounty compared the same difficulty npcs elsewhere + they drop nothing but ammo and drones. We expected farming to be a problem while COSMOS is new but we have taken measures to limit this.
Note: COSMOS constellations do not only use 'COSMOS' NPCs, but the mission spawns are generally all COSMOS npcs.

Edited by: Balazs Simon on 07/07/2005 10:49:16 Oh.. now I get it, COSMOS agents are the agents like:
Agent(In panic and depression): - You are my hero! We are in dark times, you need to save us!... (sarcastic) Bring me 5 rat tails and 10 apple .. and the kingdome is saved... You will get a glorious reward. I will give you ... <- insert any common, worth nothing loot here..
Player: (??) ooo.k.k.k.eeeyyy...
LOL... finaly I understand..
This is fun, I will try out them asap I can...
So it will sound like: Agent: Those nasty Amars are camping our junkyar... eer ship component resource site.. we need to soften them up a bit before our fighters retake it. Go ther and kill as many ...<- insert any amar fregat there, bring bac xy dogtags from them to prove you did a good job. I will need 10x zy tag and 5x yz tags. Return me in a hour an you will get 10isk bonus... ect ect...
Player: ooo.k.k.k.eeeyyy... (and I tought this guys are a bit better than those carebear never undock station ones..)

Just wanted to try out cosmos agents before downtime. Took 2 missions and there was no npcs to be found. Jst 6 ppl waiting for the very smae ones. Why didn't they make it instanced? Holy Everquest spawn camping batman!
@Zraknor: It's not about a special mission but about all of them. The whole system is flawed as long everyone can enter the same gate. Need that ancient weaponary? Buy of the griefer that keep collecting them. I see it comming.

Hm, some of the mission might be like this, but often mission are also like this:
Agent: We want you to kill someone. Unfortunatly, there is no beacon near to his location. Find his location in this system by any means possible. Oh, and btw, you still need a special key, if you want to enter the gate. No idea where you can find that one though. Go and ask around.
Player: *confused*
Those mission often really require more than just warp-kill-return, which is fun.

I too had a tad of a problem with having the right NPC spawn at start but rather than doing the same mission as everyone else I would sugest you find another agent, there are plenty of agents at most levels and if you just jump past the "first system" agents you wont have much problem with overpopulation.

EDIT: Nevermind, I found the dungeon which you were referring to. Spawn timer tweaked.
The contested Lai Dai refinery in Airmia. (sorry for late response, I was sleeping) Hopefully I'll have time tonite to go back and see if it's improved, but I'm glad it's being looked into.
For the future development of these things it might be a good idea to have multiple deadspace pockets available for the same npc's. (I believe the one I am in has NPC's for 3-4 different missions which could still cause crowding issues) Perhaps having duplicate outposts in 3 nearby systems would allow players to spread out a bit on these missions.

Well here's the problem I'm having. I need 3 Sniper ID Slices, I've only found one complex that drops them nearby. In that one complex only one cruiser type drops them. Half the time this cruiser doesn't drop anything, 3/4 of the times it does it drops no slice at all. I've been in this complex for about 4 hours now, and in that time I've gotten a single Sniper ID Slice.
I've been pretty much alone here the entire time, but really I don't find sitting around waiting for a cruiser rat to respawn only to have him drop absolutely nothing a lot of fun =/

You know, people that aren't used to camping find it very very frustrating. But just remember to past games how common it was to find an NPC and then have him drop nothing. That is part of the game...get over it. I'm amazed that I keep reading all of these people up in arms over, "I didn't get my drop....wahhhhh."
Have you ever played another online game???
Earth and Beyond was famous for this as well as many others. People just need to readjust their thinking and patience. I remember camping a spawn for 12 hours just to get miguel....but in the end...it was worth it....

Well if I were offered a faction ship bpc or something then yes, it'd be worth it, but I was offered 1000 units of Proton M faction ammo. Still I spent about 6 hours in various complexes looking for these ID Slices, 4 of which were spent in the same complex that I found the first slice in, in the end I had to go to work and failed the mission.

This isn't rare loot, and these aren't rare spawns. This is beginner, level 1 missions we're talking about. Not dropping loot is fine, mission items is another story. The slow respawn rate is the real issue though.

Earth and Beyond, Lineage II beta, Matrix Online beta, Guild Wars, World of Warcraft.

Just because other games have done it doesn't make it a good idea. We're not talking about epic raid level spawns here. We're talking about 1k rats with NO loot.
BTW I logged back in tonite to try and finish the mission, and there were 6 people camping the deadspace pocket, devoid of NPC's. Failed the mission.

I had the most insane 5 hrs doing COSMOS missions ever tonight. Fistly i tried to retrieve 5 Wiryikomi rifles..... me and 6 other peeps. after 2 hrs, in the CORRECT place (contested refining field in Airmia), and finding none, after blowing up approx. 80 rats, and no one else finding any, i petitioned out, and tg i got a nice GM, who wiped it. Next missions run ok, untill, guess what? Get 5 propel Dynamics tags. Now, fortunately i had already picked up 1 earlier in my gankfest. now, with a bonus time of 40 mins i was worried. 1 kind soul gave another 2 tags. So, i found where they rats spawned, and waited. And waited. And waited some more. 1 rat spawns every 10 minutes. That rat had a 1/3 chance of dropping a loot can. For every loot can dropped, 1/3 had a tag in it. I kid you not. It took me 2 HRS, blowing up 12 rats, to get 2 tags. I was the only person camping that spawn too. FFS ccp, increase the spawn rate of the rats Vs the no. of people in the complex. Thats' insane. 1-2 min spawn time at MOST, and i DEMAND 1 loot drop per rat, with a 90% chance of the required item dropping at least. Good job ccp are working hard to reduce time sinks, eh? And, btw, this is a rant. Pleeeeease fix this ffs. Otherwise i'm going back to my lvl 3 mission grind.

The rewards for COSMOS missions are no where close to being worth the time needed to run them. Spent 4 hours last night trying to get the 5 Outlaw tags and another 2 today. rats spawn about once every 10 min. 1 in 4 rats drops a can and I have yet to see a tag so sounds like 1 in 100 cans has the mission loot. not to mention the other 20 people in the complex looking for the same thing.
CCP really needs to fix the spawn timers. If only 1 in 4 rats is going to drop a can then every can should have the mission items.

Okay, I have to revise my rant :P
If the loot is that bad, then this is a really bad idea. I didn't realize that the bounties and reward were so crummy...
Taking that in to account, CCP has to readjust these missions...

Give it a few weeks. After the initial rush, it'll be easy to find the stuff you need to. This happens in any online game where a new quest is added. Essentially, Eve has never had to deal with it because it's never had persistent spawns related to static quests. You'll see everything calmed down after a month or two.

In a few weeks most of our missions are expired. And that means we can never do them again. So waiting isnt good. Please fix spawn rates and drops...there is no need for people to be spending over 2hr trying to finish these missions.
