Edited by: Talthrus on 13/07/2005 19:15:31 Hi all,
Ever since the patch today EVE has been losing connection randomly when I login. I don't believe the patch did it, as I seem to have found what is going on...

That 9th hop of mine has been constantly timing out on me, as well as many of the *cw.net servers. Is anyone else experiencing gateway problems like this? Is there anything I can do to help fix the situation on my end?
Note: EVE's cache has been cleared. I'm also getting "A timeout occurred while attempting to read from the socket." errors when connecting today. Another game I play with European based servers works fine, as well as anything else I've done online today. This problem is confusing :(.

I've been having the EXACT same problems and traceroutes are timing out at the same cw.net routers. I finally gave up, 10 drops an hour is enough to make someone quit this game. :(
Hopefully they'll have the problems fixed later on today.

I couldn't connect to EVE at all a few weeks ago, lo and behold, it was cable and wireless' fault.
(And yes, I've been having the disconnect problem too)

Would you mind posting your tracert results here? Also, try downloading a ping plotting tool and post screenshots as I did. A comparison could help pinpoint bad routers.

Thanks, it's strange that cw.net is acting up so bad again. This is making EVE completely unplayable. I just lost connection in the middle of a fleet battle *sigh*. Is there a way to force a different route?

The router rampage continues on ...
A few Cox routers are having issues but cw.net is simply choking itself to death for unknown reasons.

Here's what I'm seeing..
Could you right click on the "PL%" column and check the option for the column that counts the numbers of errors (err). Also, if you have time, could you run the plotter for about 30 minutes and post a screen?
I have found that setting your interval time to 1 second works best too .
Thanks.

YAY! It's happening again! I don't like that 1 second option, since I got to watch in real time as routers just disappeared from the net in front of my eyes.

I live in australia and have been getting CONSTANT disconnects all day long. I can't play for more than 5 maybe 10 minutes without the game lagging to the point where i can't do anything or getting disconnected entirely.

Mayb a moot point.. The server is located in london @ ip 157.157.139.10 .. I would think server disconnects would be better faulted by tracerting that..
Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I do not know how to use (or even where to download) the trace program, but I have been getting constant disconnects for the past hour, I log in, get past character selection, and get in-game, and I lose the connection within 15 seconds, every time. I just patched to the new mini-patch that fixed to petitions glitch to see if that helps. Anyone know why this is hapening? When in doubt, MWD! |

Thanks for the IP. The disconnect problems seem to be attributed to bad gateways in between EVE and wherever you are. I've noticed packet loss as high as 40% when I'm getting bad disconnection problems in EVE. Unfortunately, this only happened after the latest patch. Either CCP has changed the netcode in some way to make it more sensitive to packet loss or major gateways (such as cw.net) are having bad latency issues.
For everyone having the disconnection problems, please post a tracert to the IP DeODokktor gave. It could prove useful to compare these results.

from c&w website: "It's not about delivering packets. It's about delivering them on time, first time around, every time."
hehe. I'm disconnecting all the time, my trace stops dead at cw server when i drop. If it's likely ccp have altered the packet handling code as part of the patch. I'll give it a week or so, since it's a big patch and they have a lot to sort out.
If it still isn't sorted then i'm dusting off my spectrum and playing elite instead :P
