Edited by: Alisha Retaris on 15/07/2005 00:40:01 OK here's the situation I took one of my alts a 1.5 mil skill point charcter to a dead space complex to have some fun. He got a little chewed up by the rats there so went to a station to fit an armor repairer to fix his armor dammage. Upon attempting to exit the station I recived a message stating that I did not have enough skill to pilot my ship with it's current dammage. This was annoying to me but I repaired the ship and went on my way. Now for experienced players with plenty of cash this isn't a problem. but for some noob or a solo player short on cash it can be a BIG problem. (examples follow)
1)Not having the cash to a. repair the dammage. or b. purchase another ship. 2)docking at a station where refiting is possible but not repair ( KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK ) anybody in there you at ccp have just stranded a charcter with this change THINK BEFORE YOU MAKE THESE CHANGES GUYS
needless to say one of a long used tactic has been disabled by this change ( dammaged ? head to a base fit a armor/hull repairer undock and repair)
This doesn't affect me in the slightest really but for noobs you've added a bunch of head ache for them and your selfs with them screaming about this.
Change it back guys I know you probally changed it because of the multitudes of people who would use the afore mentioned self repair option and sit just outside a base to do it. yes it was annoying to see them there and they did occaisionaly cause lag around the given station but this isn't a BALANCED fix to the problem.
Ok I've vented my spleen enough at you over this just some construtive critisim there.

Petition it as a stuck ship. Maybe one of the GMs will be kind enough to move you to a station with repair facilities.
The problem is that people have realised it is far cheaper to simply mount a repair module, undock, and save nMillion ISK. This led to serious problems in places like Rens, where there was a blob of raven's all sitting outside the station with armour reps going.
I hear what you are saying though. Perhaps once COSMOS comes fully into play and there are no longer agent hotspots then htings will change, but don't hold your breath.

If you think you can do a better job, go find yourself a datacentre to host a box, get a copy of Visual Studio, and STFU.

I would bug report this. The chances are that your skills aren't properly being taken into account when the undock check is done.

Edited by: Jet Collins on 15/07/2005 17:03:47 I recall getting this many months ago. i found that if I did like 25% of the repairs in station that I would be able to undock and do the rest of the repairs with my repair modual. Just a suggestions.

If I recall correctly (and I could be wrong) this was introduced after some kinda exploit where an excessively damaged ship became invulnerable to all damage.
The fix does suck though. If would be nice if the system applied your mechanic and hull upgrades skills in calculating your ability to undock.
This also makes you want to watch your alts. If a highly skilled character hands a low-skilled character a heavily damaged ship (one held together only by skills) then that alt won't be able to fly the ship at all...
