With the recent DEV blog about the balancing of Capitals.
Going back to the world war II carrier fleets used there fighters as screens for defense. They would send them up against other fighters and to block incoming torpedo bombers. It was a battle to wipe out the carriers protection and ultimately the carrier itself.
SO what I am proposing is giving the players this option.
Right now the only way to get Fighters to engage other fighters or bombers is to target each one individually and tell them to attack each one.
Very high maintenance and a whole lot of clicking, which translates into lag.
So I am proposing someone addition commands options.
Keep in mind these commands will only effect how fighters deal with other fighters and fighter bombers, they will ignore other drones.
1. Fighter Screen Target (easiest to implement I think) You target a friendly and When your fighters are in this mode they protect your target against fighters and bombers.
2. Fighter Screen Group or maybe wing. Same as above except the fighters protect anyone in your group or wing.
3 Fighter screen. (this is the preferred one in my opinion) Same as number 1 except it protects against all fighter and bombers that enter a set radius. So 20 km for argument sake.
4. not sure maybe someone else could find a another option they would like instead.
So what you have is a launch and forget situation. Means less micro management on the players perspective which should reduce lag.
And most importantly it serves to be an excellent counter to SC and carriers in general. And it defines carriers very nicely and gives them a purpose to be protection and logistics.
Which leaves offense to SC's, dreads and titans.

i would like smarter fighters, or some type of anti fighter ship, like a souped up destroyer I love the the smell of victory in the morning. It smells like... Blood, vomit and burning flesh. |

"Fighters" despite whatever the name might conjure in your mind, are defensive assets. "Bombers" are offensive.
drones can currently be set to 'defend' a target.
That said... if capital ships (carriers and SCs) received a new tactical overlay tab which would allow them to assign fighters to defend/engage enemy ships over a swathe of territory on whatever grid they are currently on, i think it would add a new/interesting strategy for fleet maneuvers.
It would also add a new element for carriers and SCs, as you know, actual "fleet logistic commanders." |

I was about to start a new topic about fighters but I think this one will do nicely. Nyx and other motherships will have only fighters as their weapon. It's ok with me BUT as for now, fighters have only one (yes one option, i.e. "follow in warp"). CCP should give us better control over fighters. Fighters are people, soldiers and they recieve instructions before and during a fight. Now it looks like this: you point your finger "kill this", "kill that" -- very much like in pre-historic fights I bet. To cut the short story long here's what I suggest: 1) Targets queue. It's not like auto agression for drones, you will have to choose targets yourself. 2) Manual control over figthters' combat behaviour: orbit, keep at range, approach, warp to etc. For example, if I see a smartbombing BS I will tell my fighters to orbit it at 8km shooting at falloff range. 3) Ability to drop beacons in tactical overview mode visible only to you. Fighters will fly from one beacon to another if i tell them to. What for? For instance, if I want to find a cloaked ship in a certain spot I will drop a beacon there and tell them to orbit/approach it. Another example, one of my fighters getting primaried so I can tell him to fly 150 km away from me instead of scooping him into my dronebay. And many more other tactical moves --
Unlike other F1,F2,F3 ships what a great and interesting ship it would be!
There are 16 more features I would like to be implemented but these are the most needed right now imo because we certainly lack control over fighters. If you guys have any ideas go ahead and write them down. |

interesting approach. I think many small additions like this could make for a much more engaging fleet fight that requires intelligence and tactical savvy. In line of this I also like to add the idea of targeting individual subsystem on supercapitals (shields, propulsion, superweapon, launchbay etc).
