My plan in game is to become a perfect miner & I was wondering exactly what skills I would need for this. I have been playing 4-5 months now so I am not a total noob anymore & do have a lot of skills already. I had a quick scout around the forums & couldn't see a guide anywhere & this forum seemed the best palce to post it.
I currently am well on the way to a Large Mining Barge (6 days left on barge level 5).
Skills I have already are (off the top of my head):
Mining Barge Astrogeology Industry Mining Refining Ice Harvesting Mining Drone Operation
To train: Metallurgy Scrapmetal Processing Refinery Efficiency Processing skills (Kernite, Pyroxeres etc...)
The first set of skills I have at varying levels but obviously I will need them all at level 5 to get full benefit.
The second set I will start training once I get my large barge training complete.
Arethere any other skills I need to increase my mining yield/refining efficiency?
I will eventually look into researching & building but these should keep me busy for a couple of months yet
Thanks in advance for any adive/help.

So I need to buy drone interfacing?
I plan on getting all the skills listed to level 5 eventually btw.

Don't forget combat skills. You need high standings (6,68) to the station owners to get 100% refine. And to get this standing you need to do missions, alot of missions.

you can get to that standing doing carrier missions, i did, and i rarelye needed an industrial, i mainly used a vigil (fast) and a probe (lots of cargo) and for the rare occasion a it mk4 with nanofibers for increased speed, it takes a while for sure, but i got there none the less ^^

Not *too* bothered about the station standings really. I just want MY skills to be the best they can be.
I can train up the connections skill to improve my standings to some degree anyway.

well its kind of easy to get a perfect miner :) refinery and such is for refiners ;P
perfect miner: Mining V Astrogeo V Ore Processings IV and Mining drone thing skill V for drones and then you are a perfect miner and okay good refiner also :)
Currently Training: Heavy Drone Operation V /Rank5/ |

Ore processings only to level 4?
Is the time taken for level 5 not worth the trade off?

Good miner is one thing, but ore needs too be shipped too an iteron V, is the best option for now. Later on a transport ship. And 4 years later maybe a freighter. Does thing are for the common miner not too have.

You will also need Cybernetics 5 to install the new Mining implant.

ya did ya see that in the sell orders forum.
bid up to 130 mill. worth prolly every bit of 250 mill and will in no time pay for itself.
I would suspect there is a 3% that only requires cybernetics 3.

You only need Refining 5, Refine eff 3 and the ore specific skills to level 2 or 3 for 100% refine.
Metalurgy and Refine Eff 5 and scrapmetal 1 (dont need more :p) are for recycling loot at 100%.

not really , if he takes manufacturing or mining...

You need a POS too so you can run an intensive refinery.
So Anchoring skill is needed, and therefore you also need the corpmanagement skill.
To keep the POS running you will need the skills Ice Harvesting and Ice Processing.
Ice processing needs another skill; Hydromagnetic Physics skilled up to level 4.
THEN you will be the ultimate miner :P

The perfect miner is the one who goes to bed happy with the results of their mining op. No matter what their skill level is. |

barge V all relevant reprocessing to IV scrap metal II Drone interfacing V mining drone V the mining implant standing with a 50% reprocessing corp at @ 7.0 transport I freighter I amarr battleship II DCMII
minimum equipment 3 mod strip IIs 8 DCM2s tech2 crystals as needed 10 harvester drones Apoc Covetor hauler wrt to currentskills (transport and freigter would be your end goals) a set of local hull expanders 27.44% and a great set of instas and good fields to mine off the beaten path so u have little issues with ore thieves
if u intend to market your own minerals then the following would be worth checking out... Broker relations V Accounting V tycoon V and other skills as u see fit such as connections V to help with corporation standings
so your talking about 6+months of skills about 2.5 billion in hardware TotensBurntCorpse Likes EVE, Starfleet Command Series, Earth & Beyond, Anything Battlefield, MOHAA, Call of Duty.

Edited by: Lefia on 23/07/2005 18:24:19 Don't forget:
Navigation V Acceleration Control IV Afterburners V Warp Drive Ops III Fuel Conservation IV Evasive Meneuvering V
You'll need good navigation skills in order to shave time off moving from place to place, especially in the super slow ships you'll be using. Good instas help with this respect in the short run (station to belt, couple of jumps, 0.0 mining), but when taking a hauler 10+ jumps I find using the autopilot far less tedious than doing "click>warp-to-gate>click>wait>click>jump>click>wait" 10 times. Using autopilot you can go do something else, like cruise the forums or make a sandwich and eat it.
Oh and for the highly mobile miner, your best friend is an ITMK5 with 11,000 m3. The reason? Good speed while still having the room to fit a repackaged large barge and all the equipment to run the barge, and convert the ITMK5 into a 30,000+ m3 hauler.

A couple of additional areas of training that are critical to elite mining include engineering, electronics and mechanic. They're usually not mentioned in mining skills threads...likely because seasoned miners take them for granted, as a given...however, up-and-coming miners may not have a full sense of their value to the profession.
In Engineering:
Engineering 5 - to maximize the power core. Energy Management 5 - to maximize the capacitor capacity. Energy Systems Operation 5 - to maximize the rate at which the capacitor recharges. Shield Management 5 - to maximize shield capacity. Shield Operation 5 - to maximize the rate at which the shield recharges. Energy Grid Upgrades 5 - to reduce the CPU requirements of installing power modules. Tactical Shield Manipulation 5 - to increase the amount of damage that can be sustained by the shields before the damage bleeds through to armor (or armour ).
In Electronics:
Electronics 5 - to maximize the CPU. Targeting 5 and Multitasking 2 - to maximize the number of targets that can be locked simultaneously. Long Range Targeting 5 - to increase the range within which those roids can be locked. Signature Analysis 5 - to maximize targeting speed (time is money). Survey 5 - To maximize roid scanner speed (time is money).
In Mechanic:
Mechanic 5 - To maximize hull strength. Hull Upgrade 5 - To maximize armor strength. Repair Systems 4 - To be able to operate the best armor and hull repair modules.
