Support Skills - Hull Upgrades V - garbage? or worth it? And why?
5% ok but. Nano 2. Not useful if using hardeners. Hardeners only up 5% and you can just buy premium modules That give you same effect without putting in the training time |

Yes, very useful. That 5% extra armour makes a world of difference in bigger ships. Also, it gives access to T2 Energized Membranes and T2 Hardeners (which are totally amazing) the T2 gives same performance of some faction, for a sliver of the cost. You can't supplement skills with isk I'll take 2 carebears to go, with extra tears |

I usually train skills to 5 only if:
- 5 is a prerequisite for another skill I want or for a ship - the skill is Engineering or Electronics or Drones (those are important)
Otherwise, 4 is sufficient for most skills.
However, like the poster above said, once you get to the super-expensive ships (freighters, carriers, T3 cruisers, whatever), you want to wring every ounce of performance out of your skills and modules, and the ship is likely to be attacked because it's juicy, so that last 5% might save your billion ISK investment. Maybe.
Most of the time, though, you lose the ship due to your own mistake or fault.
I would not worry about the skill until you can actually fly expensive ships such as the ones listed above. |

This.
A faction or officer mod might be as good or better.
But usually for 1 of those mods you can buy several T2 mods for the same price. And those T2 mods don't make you a gankable loot pinata when scanned, the faction/officer mods do. Buddy invite offer Corporation Recruitment |

EDIT: Say I scan a ship and see for 150mil module on it, knowing it will take a ship worth 250mil to gank you...no profit to be gained (even if ALL mods drop, which is not very likely). Say I scan that same ship with some faction/officer stuff on it and it now has 2bil worth of modules, knowing that my gank ship will cost me 350mil...you just became a target, if loot fairy is nice, I will make profit out of sacrificing my ship for a nice juicy wreck to loot.

Any and all skills that are non-racial and affect combat ships are REQURIED at V at some point. hull, engineering, electronics, gunnery, weapon upgrades, advanced weapon upgrades, controlled burts, EVERYTHING.
once those are V THEN you can train up racial stuff.
or, not, but seriosuly, usually not a good idea to fly a ship unles you can fit it T2, since otherwise youll get borked by a nilder.

J'Poll's not talking about PVP ships, not all that likely to find one of those (well subcap and excluding T3) fitted with 2 bil of mods. PVE ships however are often fit like that and are relativly easy for a PVP-fit ship to destroy.
You have a cruiser or battlecruiser fit with 2 bil of mods, you're asking for a suicide gank or for someone to come and harass you in missions hoping you'll aggress them.
As for Hull Upgrades 5, essential. Lets you fit T2 EANMs and T2 armour hardeners |

You do know this is EVE. Go ahead and fly your 3bil mission runner and someone will come along and shoot you.

Energized nanos go from like 15% to like 25% at essentially the same price between going from hull upgrades 4 to 5 and the resist skills. That's a huge difference, and unlike active hardeners it can't be casually turned off by some player or NPC with an energy vampire or neutralizer.
And you can't usually buy "several" T2 resist modules for the price of an officer module, it's typically more like "several dozen", or even "several hundred" depending on what module you're talking about. If an officer/faction variant only costs 3x as much as its T2 version on the market, chances are it's a module where the differences are some very minor aspect of fitting that only matters to people doing something incredibly specific. |

get it to V now and you wont need to later, its done and out of the way, and trust me 5% may not seem like much but in the long run it makes a world of difference, also; dedspace, faction and officer gear make you an automatic target for suicide gankers compared to T2 gear that get you close to the same stats as the factiona nd officer stuff. |

The key to success is great gank. Gank is directly related to how little tank you need to fit to get the job done. 5% more HP and T2 Hardeners mean less Tank fitting needed, which means more Gank used! |
