I used to call all my ships Ibrox when I first started, but at the rate I go through ships it wasn't worth naming them after a while :P

Scorpion -Tiger I
Ferox -Sturmgeschutz IV
Caracal -Panther
Moa -Panzer IV
BlackBird -Marder III AUS M
Cormorant -PanzerJager Nashorn
Kestrel -Panzer III
and so on and on...

I don't understand the point man. My Caracal is called 'Caracal'. My Punisher is called 'Punisher' and my Bustard is called 'hired goon's Badger MKII'
My Armageddon is 'Armour Geddon' granted, but that's all. When I have more than one ship I name them according to the place in the game they belong. 'Torrinos Zealot', 'P33-KR Zealot', 'Yulai Zealot'

I put that as the name of all my ships. I never fit mining lasers, so it makes perfect sense. A cookie to the first person to get it.

Prometheus Unchained, Savage Retribution, Icarus, Dark Future, Wings Unfurled were names of my Merlins.
Imprecator, Ultima Ratio Regnum, Indefagitable are some of the names for my Moas.
Short Bus, Just in Time, Solar Wind are some of my shuttle names.
Benthic Explorer for my Probe...points to whoever can point out where that one came from.

I lost 2 Dominixs to bad luck/stupidity, so I refused to fly one until relatively recently, when I built one and gave it this name hoping for better luck :P
