Those "who work"? Why not state the obvious thing. "Those who grind"? Oh, well, here I go again, can¦t resist a discussion.
The flaws of the current system are obvious: *The chance to recieve a BP are bloody low, which means that though you double your chances if you do the missions, the still stay bloody low. *Only a few BPs are dished out, creating monopolies. *If BPs are auctioned, they are extremly expensive, giving newer players hardly a chance to participate.
Ok, how can we change the system? You made no alternatives, so I¦ll do that for you.
-> Make it similiar to the LP-system. Grind until your eyes hurt and recieve a cap-II-BP at 500k RPs. -> Make BP¦s available on the market. Make them expensive. Grind/Mine until your eyes hurt and buy the cap-II-BP at 5b isk. -> Give more BPs out in the lottery, add BPCs.
Ok, now, out of curiousity, have you ever produced something? We¦ve got a Thorax BPC (on of those pre-pre-pre patch, nearly unlimited). You know how many we produced in the last year? Not a single one. You can make much more profit, if you just sell the minerals. The problem is, that every -sorry- idiot out there as easy access to a thorax BP. The competition is extreme, and unlike in RL, you can¦t lose money if you produce "small" things. People mine their own minerals, think "Hey, those minerals don¦t cost me anything, I¦ll undercut everyone else".
Good, now that I¦ve stated the problems of Tech1 Production, let¦s get back to Tech2. If we change the availability of Tech2 BPs and therefore Tech2 modules, what happens is clear.
*People will start grinding mindlessly to get their Tech2 BP *Sooner or later, every Tech2 BP will be nearly as available as their Tech1 Counterpart *Prices will drop. Drop. Drop. *Prices will be so far down, that it will hardly be worth producing them. Still, with all those guys out there, that have no idea about financials, people will produce them anyway, and prices will stay down.
==> Everyone will buy only Tech2 modules. There will be hardly anything special about it. Those producing Tech2 Stuff will hardly make more profit, than if they produced Tech1. Everyone will call for Tech3.
Let¦s face it: What makes Tech2 special is the limited availability of the Tech2-Blueprints! If you remove the limiting factor, Tech2 == Tech1.
Ok, one last thing, just for your interest: I¦ve got the Research Project Managment Skill, 5 agents and have yet to see the benefit of buying this skill....
I¦d really like to see your alternative to the Lottery System.
You missed out one thing - the T2 material producers wouldn't be able to keep up with demand, so prices would skyrocket and the T2 prices would either stay the same or increase drastically and profit margins would drop. Result: T1-derived material producers reap the rewards.
