[1] Just FYI, the Roosevelt knowing about the attack on Pearl is still just an urban legend. And America did not keep its best ships out of Pearl...if you look at the scenes all of our best battleships were at Battleship Row on the morning of the 7th of December. One Battleship did make it to the mouth of the harbor before it too was sunk. The ships that were out were the carriers, and at the time, America had little respect for carriers, it was simply the fact that the rest of the world had begun embracing carriers that they decided to build 3. Whereas the battleship fleet was by far more extensive. And yes the carriers were out on extended practice but I believe the Enterprise was scheduled for docking that morning. I cannot agree with anyone saying that Roosevelt let thousands of men die to draw us into a war. Like someone previously stated, if we had simply prepared for the surprise attack and fended it off, we would have our entire battleship fleet and the American public would still be for the war. Yes there would still be the Doves and peaceniks but the general public would have agreed w/ the war. |

[3] It may be true that the carriers were newer but they were looked down upon. It took america years to build them after the rest of the world had started building them. While they were indeed newer they were far from being the flagship of the navy. And yes it was true that some Japanese midget submarines were indeed engaged and in todays society that message would have reached DC or the DoD quickly, it could take hours or even days for a telegraphed message to be processed and received at the appropriate agency. We could probably go around and around on the issue, I know I have with other history buffs, but I will never believe in that urban legend. |

[5] I can say whatever I feel like wherever I feel like so long as I dont break the rules of the forums so you will just need to calm down a bit. Maarek Steele, you wanna compare notes. I dont particular want to be hostile or anything but I've done my own research and comparing notes with someone who has connections to the first hand would be greatly appreciated. If so Evemail me. If you happen to be a history buff, even better. |
