Today in a court on the Shandian Iu, Jotun; Leopold Caine plead guilty to all charges today at 1800 Standard time.
He was found guilty of; Desecration of a Shandian Iu holy site, enslavement of Republic Citizens including; 1 Starkmanir, 3 Shandian Iu, 19 Vherokior, 12 Krusual and 8 Thukker, armed assault on a minor trade station resulting in the deaths of Many of the Minmatar, aiding the Angel Cartel; a known enemy of the Republic and people trafficking.
Due to the immortality of capsuleers, he was sentenced to a life sentence on the Shandian Iu Blockade Runner; Ache of reconciliation until death by illness or age claims his evil soul.
During the court session he came out with such whining as;
n++[ 2013.02.21 17:58:16 ] Khanton Angka How do you pleade on all charges? n++[ 2013.02.21 17:59:17 ] Leopold Caine > /emote looks over at the observer, then shrugs with a light smile. "Would you allow me to tell you a story instead, your honour?" n++[ 2013.02.21 18:00:04 ] Khanton Angka > No. We wish to hear whether you pleade guilty, helpless or innocent to each charge. n++[ 2013.02.21 18:00:04 ] Leopold Caine > "Do you know what a rabbit is?" n++[ 2013.02.21 18:00:38 ] Leopold Caine > /emote grins. "Just shut the **** up and listen to my story... please?"
n++[ 2013.02.21 18:01:27 ] Khanton Angka Mr Caine, you will speak with respect in this court and answer questions as they are asked. No exceptions. n++[ 2013.02.21 18:01:48 ] Leopold Caine > I AM STILL TALKING.
n++[ 2013.02.21 18:20:25 ] Leopold Caine > "I am the Domination Malakim of Fua, and you and your henchmen can go **** themselves."
We are glad to have had the opportunity to bring this Cartel dog, slaver this Nidhoggur to justice before our clan, for the good of New Eden. |

Poke holes in that plan instead, but it sounds far more grim to me than a simple removal from New Eden entirely. |

This is why he will live out his days on suicide watch with a medical team on standby. The Shandian Iu have members reaching 170 years of age, if there's something we do well, it is prolong life. |

Indeed. I doubt the prison cell includes convenient amenities such as a device to make a brain scan at the moment of death.
You just made me realize how shockingly little I truly understand about the cloning process. Especially now that we see all these mercenaries running around with tech that works similar but not the same as our own.
I will assume that the moment mister Caine last left his capsule as his 'true self', his new experiences stopped being transmitted to his 'clone self'.
I don't doubt that it is possible... to force-activate his 'clone self' in the state it was on the exact moment Leopold was arrested and forced to leave his pod as his 'true self'. I wonder though... would his clone contract allow the activation of the clone through any other way than a transneural scan? |

My point children,
is that when a capsuleer meets an unlikely death out-of-capsule, CONCORD is notified, and the next available medical clone is activated. Said clone only contains memories up-to the point of the last backup.
This is an entirely different situation than your typical pod-destruction/death transmission.
So our dear imprisoned Mr. Caine, should he live in prison for 50 years and then be killed.... the activated medical clone will have no knowledge of the previous Leopold in prison. Savvy?

Anyway, if the transcript is to be believed, I think I know what all this is about, then. I've been dabbling in informorphology since the middling of Arek'Jambalaya. My quartet of research agents has... oh my goodness, that's a lot of data! Now, I've been using sheep (Athran karakul to be exact, just the cutest little balls of fluffy white wool, if ever my boys would leave them alone... don't make mummy get the hose!), instead of pirates, but where was I? Fornication, Sebiestor underwear models, debauchery, oh yes...

Very well guarded. An assault on his location or attempted escape would be incredibly difficult.
We are aware of the plethora of ways a capsuleer can escape, we have searched for every possibility and are confident that we have minimized the risk. I think I would be lying to myself if I thought we could hold him for the full sentence however. We do expect to have him for a long time.

I doubt that you'd be able to rehabilitate Caine's twisted soul even after 9 generations of slavery, much less 50 years. Still, it might be interesting and amusing to see you try Merdaneth.

I remember that bit quite well, I did read it at the time.
I simply don't buy it. You support the Angel Cartel freely and openly as long as it suited you, but as soon as a little bit of truth regarding the Cartel's nature is revealed and you are not as naive anymore, you "retract your support" wash your hands, and walk away.
It's not that simple. It should never BE that simple, but hey, Capsuleers have a nasty reputation for forgiving even the worst offenders among them at the drop of a hat.
It worked for Vikarion, it worked for Rek Jaiga, it worked For Ciarente, it worked for Silver Night, it worked for litterally hundreds of other traitors to Humanity, so why should it not work for you?
So by all means, carry on. On a Federal world, treason has serious consequenses. As a capsuleer, treason don't even involve a slap on the wrist.
Enjoy that fact as long as it lasts, Angel.

BloodBird wrote: Enjoy that fact as long as it lasts, Angel.
I find this whole business farcical. The fact is that the Angel Cartel and the MO of the Alexlyva Paradox should have never crossed paths.
The heart of the matter is that Saede as an individual has had involvements with the Angels. But at best she may have been considered an associate, not a loyalist. Even then, a loyalist is not an Angel, so your name-calling is misplaced.
You will find that historically Corporate interests in the Cartel have been low among it's Capsuleer bloc. I myself take a stance of ambivalence to the Cartel; I find them to be useful as antagonists to the Republic, but I personally maintain poor standings with the Angels and I can't picture how they place into the vision of the Paradox, or how they could have ever been useful for more than a short-term, mutually beneficial business relationship.
To this end, whilst Saede and her baseliner teams serving directly beneath her have had dealings with the Cartel;
- No corporate assets (to my knowledge) have been used to support the Cartel's operations.
- Thusly, the majority of the corporation's (past and present) pilots have had no hand in supporting the Angels.
I will criticize my CEO at this time, though. My original premise states that the Cartel had no place in the MO of the Corporation. I stand by this firmly. Associating the Corporation with the Angels in my eyes was obviously only going to serve to compromise the perception it's actual nature - a gathering of scientists and thinkers who strive for peace.
Pragmatism has it's place. I don't believe that it's a fallacy to seek peace through violence. However, the callousness and disregard that Saede has demonstrated in the past isn't excusable. This said, she is trying to repent and you should allow respect for that fact. Whether you can find that in you or not, I do not mind.
However, I do mind if you hold her this against the Corporation, which has seen huge reformations and changes in membership since Saede's Angel involvement. This is the kind of willful ignorance and a lack of compassion such as that which causes many of my brothers to take up arms and kill their fellow man simply because he wears the mantle of Amarr.
We are more than the past actions of only some of those who have worn our name. But a child could grasp that. I hope for your sake that you are able to.
My apologies for the long-winded off topic post. I hope that this settles the issue. Trading chains for shackles, I am free. |
