So I am considering buying a Tau army to get into the Warhammer 40k table top game. For those of you that are unfamiliar with the Tau and/or WH40k, the Tau are essentially a race of Anime Communist Space Aliens.
As you may or may not know, part of collecting a WH40k army is painting it a color scheme that you like. I decided to draw inspiration from EVE, specifically the Caldari and the Gallente.
I love the light blue and steel colors of the Caldari, but I equally love the dark and light green colors of the Gallente. I found an online fire warrior painting program to try out these two schemes and I came up with the following results.
EDIT: of course the links are broken...give me a second...
Caldari Tau Fire Warrior
Gallente Tau Fire Warrior
So, which do you think wold look better when painted in real life?
Thanks |

From someone who knows nothing of 40k, and given the two images you linked, I'd vote Caldari.
That said, both feature very rich colors which, just to my personal taste, would look better muted. For instance, the V3'd Duvolle hulls have a distinctly militaristic palette.
Just my 0.02 ISK.

I do like the Creo Dron hulls, I might go with them though I the Caldari and Gallente schemes are very clear in my mind.
Thanks for the input though, I'll consider it. |

Well the Amarr color scheme is basically the "default" Tau color scheme so I wouldn't really want to go with that.
I actually do like the Imperial Guard a bit more, but it's practically tied with the Tau. I'm getting Tau because where I live, there aren't a lot of people to play the game with so I'm playing with a close circle of friends. One of them has already picked Imperial Guard, I would of tried to convince him to let me be the Imperial Guard player but that's the only faction he really likes and I like Tau almost as much as the Imperial Guard.
I'd probably like Tau even more if they actually had some books about them, besides some legendary Imperial figure showing up to fight the Tau, then tyranids show up, so said legendary Imperial figure makes a temporary truce. |

I see your point, it's good to be different, what about a pirate faction? Unless you already looked at that. (My gf painted her orcs yellow) and they are better then some I could think of.
That book, I've wanted to read it since it came out. But -ú18 pound was more then I was allowed for a book that small. |

Pirate factions are cool, but they look like they have more complex paint patterns with the camo and all. I want to stick to something simple as this will be the first army I've ever owned.

The Khanid color scheme is way more awesome.
I only have played the WH 40k videogame, I know nothing about the tabletop..but from my experiences with the videogame, I cannot understand why anyone would ever want to play anything other than Imperial Guards. I mean, come on.. they have commissars that shoot their soldiers in the back to boost morale- what's not to love about that? Please don't feed me. |

I did explain my reason for not playing the mighty imperial guard, and Tau have cool units too. You get giant mechas that fly around blowing stuff up, you have a tank that can kill almost every vehicle in the game in one hit from across the map, and you can get T-Rex to fight for you! What's more awesome than having a T-Rex on your team?

Honestly a difficult one. Both schemes are pretty good.
My personal colour scheme for my Tau back in the day were blood red fatigues with matt black armour with white and golf highlists. So in eve terms Douville Labs colour scheme. Sadly I no longer live at my folks home to post pictures.
But enjoy painting up your tau. They're one of the best armies to paint when it comes to creativity. "I think you should buy a new Mayan calendar. Mine has muscle cars on it." --áKenneth O'Hara

Sounds like a cool color scheme. And yeah Tau have a lot of options when it comes to paint. |

Assuming the figure is metal a caldari color scheme would be just not painting it at all. Plus I usually play orks so I like the color green. |
