one of my characters has had a bounty placed on him, how can I get rid of that? does the character have to die or will I get rid of it by just having his ship blown out from underneath him? |

Bounties pay 20% of the value of the ship lost. So there's no way to get rid of it without losing assets.
I'd suggest you ignore it. I once spent two hours putting bounties on everyone who spoke in the recruiting channel because someone said they wouldn't recruit anyone who had a bounty on them. It has no bearing on anything, except your ability to get recruited into hardcore carebear corps who don't understand that people randomly put bounties on people. Bounties also pay out on the value of the implants in a pod (20%, as stated).
If you PVP at all, even on a tight RL schedule like mine, you probably won't have an incidental bounty for long. If you're not already part of a bloc, this is the best guy for CSM8. |

If I'd known I would get mail every time one of my bounties got blown up, I would have thought twice about putting 5mil bounties on douche posters in Career Agent system local chat. One guy got blown up 7 times in a hour last week :( |

That's the whole reason to put bounties on some people. This is EVE - Everybody Versus Everybody.

Death is but a doorway, you'll be back.......
Fear of death is not a good thing in EVE, I highly recommend dying as soon as possible, it's good for the soul.
The single biggest danger to EVE is the proliferation of ALTS! Kill an alt today!

Nearly all my characters have a 100,000 ISK bounty.
A loss of 5x that will remove it = 500,000 ISK. So in other words, it will be removed on your first ship loss, as even the average T1 fitted frigates is worth 1m to 2m.
Just ignore the bounty. |

The bounty is divided up evenly between the fleet that lands the final blow. |

I'm talking about the reverse of that. How are the different bounty amounts that different folks have put on one character used during the payout ? Does it use the money in order of which bounty was placed first ? Remember, one is notified by mail that one was paid out.
Edit: and are we informed when our part of the bounty is exhausted ? Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.-á-á-á-á-á-á - Oscar Wilde - 1870's |

And that's it's sole 'compelling' gameplay feature, paying for notifications someone lost a ship? Meh. its not like you can email that person popped and say 'you just got whacked because I put a bounty on you...' because that's not why he got popped.
Sure you get a nice 'bonus' sometimes for killing someone, but the bounties aren't the reason you engaged them in the first place; bounties are just after-dinner mints, compared to the actual ship-popping meal.
Until there are bounty-hunting skill trees and ability to activate killrights in hisec on bountied players having a negative security status, 'bounty hunting' as a career is vaporware and the mechanic remains fail like before IMHO

A bounty on someones head is merely an incentive, it's not a kill contract.
However we are seeing more than a few people and corps specifically targeting bountied players, and doing well despite not having a mechanic that hands the ability to cash in on the bounty handed to them on a silver platter. To carve a successful niche for yourself in EVE you need to be able to out sell, out produce, out fight,-á out run, or out wit your competitors. If you can do none of the above, your only option is to complain on the forums that somehow you are at a disadvantage using the exact same tool set-áas the rest of the player base. |
