Agreed. Halo can't hold a candle to either HL 1 or 2 in any way, shape or form.

atleast halo didnt stop on a cliffhanger...
Halo has better story and backstory then HL1-2... if you diagree just read the books...

Halo did end in a cliffhangar
Half Life story is very good, and its not the story itself that makes the game, its the way it is used in the campaign.

Halo's level design was some of the worst i've ever encountered. Half-life wins without a doubt.

Master Chief crash lands in a space ship, rips two sub machine guns from nearby bodies and rains dual-weilding death down on the Covenant. Gordon walks up and hits him on the head with a Crowbar. Lliandri Corporation buy Earth and turn it into a Tournament ground, hire Gordon as a gladiator, give him a top hat and change his name to Mr. Crow.

ive only played halo on xbox, and i hate consoles, having played both Half lifes and their mods id say half life.

Half Life 1.
Half Life 2 doesn't come close.
HL1 was groundbreaking. HL2, whilst an excellent game, was more of the same.

The reason Halo gets so much attention is that its a good shooter for consoles, which I honestly found to be rather boring on console and pc. But when on pc it pales in comparison to better games, such as COD, HL2, BF1942, etc, etc.
You see Halo is just great... for being on a console ;).

It might be a great console game, but sadly it is lacking one thing that might have made it an entirely different league. The curse of all console shooters...no keyboard or mouse controls. You can have the greatest gfx, sound, plot, AI, level design and it all amounts to little when you consider playing FPS games with a joypad is nowhere near as good as mouse controls. I played Halo 1 on the PC and though I got Halo 2 on my XBox, I have no plans on playing it, only there for the resident 4 y/o to play.
Oh and HL2 has something no other FPS in history has had...the gravity gun!

Didn't stop at a cliffhanger?
HL2 ends with you defeating the bad guy, then going into stasis. Halo 2 ends right when the big battle begins!
Don't whine about spoilers too, if you haven't beaten it by now, you deserve the ending to be ruined.
Not to mention most people don't bother reading the associated novels when they play the game either.
Halo mainly had the multiplayer going for it and the story is kind of weird. Like never telling us what the hell the Covenants freaking problem is!
Half-Life has a great, mystery, X-Files-ish feel to it, where you get the story on the surface, but you know something far more sinister is going on beneath it all.
In the end, Half-Life > Halo.

If Bungie had actually bothered to finish halo 2 before throwing it on the shelves, I might've considered it. However, since the ending to halo 2 is one of the biggest dissapointments I've ever experienced in my gaming career, I'll have to go with half life 2 no question. Even though half life 2 ended in a cliffhangar as well, it's to be expected because half life 1 ended similiarly and it's part of the mystery that makes it intriging. Halo 1 on the other hand had a climactic ending and felt complete at the end, whereas halo 2 fizzles out and leaves you high and dry. It's like they didn't have enough time to finish it so they came out with some half assed boss battle and said to be continued...

The 'Ringworld' books have nothing to do with Halo :P
They were only an inspiration to the game's setting, nothing more.

If only halo had stayed in pc development.
Never know, it might have turned out to be the multiplayer masterpeice it was supposed to be.
Certainly a market for it back then, halo got swamped when it finaly hit, and obvious b'stardising of it's later months of console develpment.
