Just like every other player, I like to mine high quality ore whenever I do decide to spend an hour idly watching them mining laser chew away and trying not to admit to myself that actually I am bored out of my skull.... But anyway, I've spent time in 0.1 and 0.2 space mining very decent Hemorf and Jaspet, but then if I move deep (10 jumps) into 0.0 space, the best I can find is Pyrox! What's with that? Are there any general rules about how types of ore are distributed over the EVE universe (region, Sec Rating, other)? I'd like to at least once in my life time be able to try out my freakin Deep Core Miners as well Anybody have any informed thoughts on this?

not every 0.0 system is a goldmine, far from it. The best places to mine are systems in regions that dont connect to empire at all in general. For example- Feythebolis is much better place to mine than say- curse.

PF-346 used to have Dark Ochre atleast ... but then again... you got to get past the ganksquad sitting at the gate. ---------------------------------------------- "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things." 1 cor. |

There are some "fake 0.0", or "Empire 0.0". To get to the real 0.0 you¦ll probaly have to go even further.

most regions only have a few actually good systems, there is a few exceptiosn to this though like period basis seems to have quite afew good one's but I've never visited just going off security status.

I'm somewhat disappointed that large swathes of 0.0 appear to be less profitable than even 0.4 systems elsewhere.
I don't mind the lack of 'high ends' so much, after all, not everywhere can be filled with arkonor and mercoxit, but I really do feel hard done by to fly through a 0.0 constellation and find ore no better than the nearest 0.5 system.
I mean, really, I don't mind bimbling around 0.0 ratting and whatever, but you'd have to be bonkers to start stripping kernite in a system where an NPC spawn would kill you in about 6 seconds in a barge, when you can fly 6 hops, and sit there munching similar grades of ore. (OK, in 0.0 the veldspar roids are 40km across, but ...)
Surely this has to be a bug or something, such that 0.0 -> 1.0 goes 'up' in terms of ore quality, and the same range is applied from 0.0 -> -1.0.
e.g. -0.01 is the same as 0.99.

Yes, they should go around and rebalance the ore available in 0.0
It is another thing keeping the carebear miner from entering 0.0 space. The fact that not only do they have to enter and risk teir ship, they have to look around, in space that is said to already have the best ore.
All 0.0 should have at least the ore's found in .4-.1, Jaspert, Hebergite, ect. Not necessarily the great stuff, but enough that it is worth the risk of having a ship blown up

Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess it's safe to say there is sort of a consensus here. Are absolutely every high grade ore systems controlled by major corps , or is there still systems/regions where freelance miners can make a decent buck? Anybody?

Here's your 3 step plan to finding high grade ore...
Step 1: Go and buy a frigate Step 2: Fits stabs and an MWD Step 3: Go find out for very little loss if you do get blown up.

Edited by: Vishnej on 11/08/2005 17:42:55 Ore seems to be controlled entirely by exact security status.
In reality, there is a many-digit number that's rounded to produce the sec status you see on the map. It ranges from -1 to +1, and anything below 0 is displayed as 0.0. A constellation has a general hidden sec rating, and all the systems in it are generally within +- 0.15 of that number.
Of the two constellations in our territory that are below -0.5, where we do most of our work, we find up to ochre in -0.52, crokite being present in -0.56, and mercoxit being present in -0.77 (with quantities of +10% crok). No arkonor or bistot found yet, but we don't have any -0.8 or below.

That would make a lot of sense, if it weren't for the fact that there were 0.0 constellations entirely devoid of anything better than 'empire' ores.
IMO in _any_ 0.0 there should be at least one of low sec ores available. Risk and reward and all that, but entirely virgin 0.0 asteroid belts simply because there's nothing better than you'd get in 0.5 there is just wrong.

It's rounded. So you will find ochre in -0.45, Crokite in -0.55, and Merc in -0.75. Some regions require a lower sec status for the same ore.

I do agree, any 0.0 should be better than any 0.1
all 0.0 should have at least one of the 0.1-0.4 ores, like Jaspert or Hedbergite.

Yeah, the ore distrİbution in .0 is ratarded. You have entire regions with nothing but Jaspet while many .4 systems have stuff like Hed/Hem in them. Doesn't make sense to me at all.
