When you gate camp in <=0.4 empire space and the 2 sentry guns open fire:
- How long can you tank their damage ?
- Do the guns also open fire on anyone that assists you e.g. shield boosting, sensor linking ?
- Do the sentry guns fire upon multiple ships at the same time ?
The reason I'm asking is because I was wondering if you really could take out a freighter that was strolling through your gate camp ?
Let's take a Charon for our example, and assume that the pilot has Mechanics, Shield Operation and Hull Upgrades at level 5, so although it has no slots it would have 6,000 shields, 20,000 Armor and 106,250 Structure.

A single camping BS?
Would have to have some high-end gear to tank 2 sentries with weapons firing indefinately, and it would take so long that you could probably slowboat back to the gate and jump through.
2+ battleships should be able to do it if they're smart.

1) A single BS with good skills should be able to tank sentries for a few minutes before running out of cap.
2) If anyone assists then the sentries will shoot them too.
3) If multiple people are flagged at a gate then the sentries cycle through the targets. It tends to change targets about every 30 seconds or so. So 3 BS can easily tank at the gates.

A singel battleship can tank the sentrys for round about 40sec to 1 min depending on fitting (basicly how much cap you have)
The more battleships/ships around the sentrys with a reason to be shot at by the sentrys. The less damage each ship will take from the sentry guns. This becouse the sentry gun switch target and sometimes split targets. A golden rule is that the sentry gun will shoot ca ~20 sec on each ship. So if you are 4 ships, statisticly the sentry will shoot at you every 60 sec for 20sec. Tho the order is never the same and you could end up beeing shot at for 60 sec before the gun switch target.
Gate Sentrys are not all alike. You have Sentry Gun I to III. Sentry Gun III do alot more damage then Sentry Gun I.
A sentry gun will fire upone everyoen dooing an agressive act or supports the agressor. So no matter if you are sensor boosting, remove shield/armour/cap transfering. The sentry will shoot you for helping the agressor. This is much the reason that no pirate toll at the point of a sentrygun. You clearly will not have the time to toll people for not killing them. Also its dangerous to be pirating in front of the sentry guns so you rather have less ships around you at any given moment that possible can scramble you.
For taking out an freighter at a sentry gun range you should by now see that its quite possible. A good team of 4 battleships, with inteligent fiting for the job. Could sit in front of the sentryguns up to possible 10 minutes or more. This is more then enough time to take out a freighter.
PS: Also any remote sensorbooting ships would be stupid to be in sentry guns range. Such a ship could easily be sitting outside their range.

Yesterday I saw 3 or 4 battleships(canŠt be sure, I was to busy being shot to hell, and pressing the panic button(warp) ) camping a gate near Nonni system. There were 2 sentry guns firing at them constantly. Far as I could see, they were easily tanking the damage. They blew everything up that came to or came through the gate. I found it a bit weird that they could tank all that damage for what seemed to me like an half an hour(they only left the gate when 3 or 4 battleships arrived to smack them down).
I think a freighter would not stand a chance against that 3 or 4 battleships. Its a big target and I think torpedos, or big guns would rip it to shreds. ------------------------- Sunny Iceland

Well, that is odd. Nonni is a .5 sec system and Concord should have responded to gank them.

He said near nonni, so i guess theres a 0.4 system near that system

Well, my ship got 425mm railgun hits from security -10.0 pirate at Aunenen system as I was going to Nonni. Of course my Osprey couldn't handle more than 4-5 hits, so I had to evacuate in my pod. Later on, I checked map (why, oh why, I didn't do that earlier) and Aunenen system showed 13 ships destroyed in one hour. My encounter seemed to be one lonely pirate beyond sentry guns reach?

Everything Zarq said is true with one exception. They always shoot me first in a gang.
 I am filing a petition... But seriously. The only limit on my Apoc is cap on a two sentry gate.
There are no: 1-Safe spots 2-Ore thieves 3-Corp thieves Just people that do not understand game mechanics.
