Is there any good reason to train these skills past level 1? I don't see any bonus in lets say the Caldari Starship Engineering skill. These skills drop from agent rewards and I just trained maybe 10 of them to level 1 to keep my research agents open. --------

Thx for the reply Grim.
Does anyone know how much the RPs increase per level of a science research related skill? --------

I'm really starting to like EvE search, it's much better than Google.
Have a look at this thread.

Thx Emily
I like Cad's formula:
"Field_Multiplier * (100+Effective_Quality) / 100 * (Agent_Skill+Your_Skill) ^ 2
The Field_Multiplier is 3 for ships, 2 for weapons, and 1 for all the other stuff."
How do you find out the Agent Skill level? Also, am I too assume my skill level is in the related science research skill such as Caldari Starship engineering?
Zinjan also makes a point of: "There is one more skill you can train to affect RP per. day that is negotiation giving +5 to EQ per lvl. much more effective then connection.
So to sum it up, 3 skills affect ammount of rp per day. connections, negotiation and most importantly your skill lvl. of the research field skill."
Why is Negotiation much better than Connections to affect EQ?

Yes, your assumption is right. You can find the agent skill level by doing a Show Info on the agent and looking in the Agent Info tab - they're all listed under "Relevant skills".
