this thread shows only one thing. the ignorance of people who actually dont know anything but activating their modulated uber stripminers or who the feck those things are called.
modifying local is something that needs to be done because the current situation makes pvp a "whocanlockquickest" game, best in the belt, *OHHH who cares i vanish in 2 minutes they wont find me*.
once you reach a level (as miner or npcer) u dont wanna go below it. but fact is that mining/npcing got improoved all the time while pvp got nerfed (BIG THANX Mr Yulai Miner!). now the miners are already talkin about new mining skills for even more veldspar they can suc.k on.
WTF? wheres the balance!
raven got nerfed. all the agent runners go amok *BLEH GIVE US OUR SHIPS BACK*
scanner gets nerfed. 1/10th of the ppl complain, the rest of eve: who cares we dont need the scanner.
(just as an example)
and the best thing of this story is, people get actually the chance to move into 0.0 easier by not getting discovered. but only a few brainies out here realize it.

I have to agree and it's generally me that is checking local and the map to avoid a fight, or indeed go looking for one
However - the fact is anyone with any sense or expirence in 0.0 travels in either a frig or shuttle, if they are just travelling (not much fun as far as pvp is concerned) or if they are bring a fleet or something of value they have coverts op scouting some jumps ahead. that leaves just n00bs.
so losing local will maybe let you catch and kill a few n00bs and that again isn't much fun either. If that is the sort of pray you're looking for, why not go hunt on the belts in low sec close to the high sec border.
not flaming anyone - cos i tend to agree
also - WAR is a good answer, local is next to useless in empire due to it being over crowd and likely to have loads of ppl showing "in system" on the map

There is little hastle at present because the alliance has their wars under control and we have the small local incursions under control. Things are relatively stable in the region at present, but I've been here or abouts for a while now with 2 different alliances and things are not always so. There are periods of calm and periods of chaos. The latter being periods when it's impossible to function mining or npc'ing.
Then I have to take it you pay tribute to them or else you'd be hunted down and slaughtered like so much dodo. Not everyone think this is the optimal gameplay. If alliances can't see me they can't very well extort me, not directly anyways.
