I suspect that in many cases the answer will not be the thing they are famous for. I have many personal achievements that I've managed to stumble into over my many years in EVE. I'd probably only be able to narrow that list down to two things, it would be: 1) This first would probably be, going from being a CEO of m0o, to making a full 180 and becoming a well known trusted carebear. m0o a very long time ago was an infamous pirate corp, known for being untrustworthy griefers. It was never the plan, I simply just got jaded with pvp, and needed a change. Today I enjoy both sides of eve. But I still can't help but laugh at how my time in eve took me from one end of the spectrum to the complete other end of the spectrum. 2) The second would have to be, that I learned how to be a good leader. I seemed to always find myself in a leading role, but it took a long time before I actually became a good leader. I had a lot of other small achievements from goals that I've set for myself, such as isk goals, ship goals, etc. But they didn't seem as significant to me. EDIT: Random remark: Being CEO of m0o at the time gave me some of my best and worst times in EVE. One of my fav personal achievements was tricking you into mining for my first BS way back in 2003 and not mining for yours after mine was done! trolololo
The day will come.

If I can talk about achievements: my biggest ones had not even been planned and probably not even deserved.
I started with a guy handing a then 2-3 months old newb some 43B worth of BPOs and other assets and CEO role (speaking about forum "famous", that affair did not even get to the forums for months) because he had to quit EvE for 2 months.
Totally accustomed at way larger "borrowings on the word" on other MMOs, I did not even think I'd have been "EvE smart" to just keep the stuff. So as he returned I gave him back the stuff and somehow that was seen as some great act.
Then I started reading the MD forums, back in 2009 I did not even know what a chart, a bond or an exchange was. Much less about what a security or a market were.
I did not plan that in in 2011, reading MD would cause me to become a RL trader and that allowed me to keep eating IRL and in Dec 2012 to be contacted by another RL trader to go work for him in his company at Tenerife.
Butterfly effect!
Last but not least achievement: one day I was sitting bored. Unable to stay committed to EvE enough to be part of my former lovely PvP corp (I quit without being asked, I felt being an inactive leecher) I decided to create a charity fund.
Because what could be more nonsensical and pointless in a cold, harsh game all around screwing the next guy than creating a damn charity? That thing CLEARLY had to be done, I am natural contrarian like that.
So, with no merit of mine, that is a grumpy, bored natural contrarian, generous Donors created content. Not game content, but *usable in RL content* in the form of several thousands of dollars of tangible help for the needy. Said that, I have talked with a number of EvE players currently on other MMOs (I play several) and I have to say that the only famous name they know is Chribba. Few, very few know about Grendell. Market Discussions 2013, the right place for an EVE-O Celeb thread.
My Picks:
- The guy that anchored all the advertising cans "Fly minmatar Shuttles, why fly anything else, support your local dealer today!" ... (yes my hi-sec pilots use default overview and can's show up)
- Mintchiplol, the only known female that plays eve-online.

Wow, thanks for all the feedback.
Does anyone think celebrity can have a real effect on the market place? Or could you be more likely to use a new product or service if it was endorsed by the right 'face'? |

I was reading this thread aghast that his name didn't turn up for so long. I started playing EVE becuase of him and I actually just reread the PC gamer article on a whim earlier today.

Nothing is lost though, as both those persons are highly intelligent and know their stuff. The former more on the business side the latter on group behavioral analysis. He did mention the drawback to his fame, everyone and their uncle wanted to kill him so he never could sneak through a system. And during our roam a lot of hi heli! in local was seen.
We figured we should put him in a tanky damnation with a cyno and just have him roam for us in the future and we can sit and watch **** while orbiting a titan. |

I'd like to add Liang Nureng's name to the celeb list. She'd left (read: banned during the Jita riots), but is back. I took part in the Free Liang campaign :)
Not sure about her market impact factor. She could potentially manipulate the market by posting fits or promoting modules. Which would be totally out of character, as the main reason for her fame is reliable, trustworthy advice.
Also want to mention Estel Arador. Though not active now iirc. And not sure what sort of market impact he/his corp had/has. Happiness is a warm gun, mama. |

Speaking as someone who used to be famous (I think I can claim), but now is only really recognized by the "old boys club", I have to say I prefer my current situation.
For one, it's *a lot* less mails to have to deal with on a daily basis
Still, I adhere to the quote above (old habits die hard?) for some reason - Which is what prompted my to this post in the first place
One of the downsides of being famous (and perhaps being in a position of power - ie. alliance leadership or similar) is that you can hardly post anything, without someone coming along and dissecting your posts word for word. You almost need a lawyer to run through your posts each time, or risk having to explain/defend them 10 or 20 times over - Which becomes *very* tiresome. Unconsciously I think that's why I've almost stopped posting on the forums at all.

Tornsoul, It has been a long time. You were one of 3 people that ever gave me any real trouble in the domain market. I wouldn't even be surprised if one of the others was an alt of yours.
When I was actively playing I considered begin famous not a good thing. I spent a lot of effort hiding behind the scenes pulling market strings in Domain. 6 years of anonymous noob corp trading for this character. It never needed any good will or standing with anyone and in fact helped a lot imo to be anonymous.

It seems each era has its celebrities.. Its the long lasting that I find impressive, either for the fact that they are stubborn addicts or persistent personalities.
Chribba is ofc high on this list of Ancient ones, as is Molle and Grendel. Btw Thanks for the memory lane thing with Moo.
We have lost more epic personalities in EVE than most can recollect.
I would like a little honorary mention of Ragnar from TTI, and Tzadkiel from NAGA.
Back before Industry was serious Business TTI was raining down fire to get CCP to improve these things.
Back when most special items could not be traded on scc market NAGA supplied a lot of EVE with a very good trade service.
I apologize if I sounded like some old fart in a retirement home sharing stories from "the war"
