I've been working on a ship fitting tool and I'm now ready to release Beta 3.
Here it is:
EVE Ship Fitter Beta 3
Please give it a go and let me know what you think

Edited by: Kristine Hall on 24/08/2005 10:14:57 Isn't that a pain... I'll look at fixing that properly, but the easiest way for you to fix it is open the character XML file in notepad.
At the top it may have something like this:
<charactersheet> <characters> <character name="My Alt" characterID="111111111"/> <character timeInCache="4016" timeLeftInCache="3595984" name="Kristine Hall" characterID="222222222"> <race>Amarr</race> <bloodLine>Amarr</bloodLine> ...
Delete the all the <character> elements except for the character you want to use.
So you end up with:
<charactersheet> <characters> <character timeInCache="4016" timeLeftInCache="3595984" name="Kristine Hall" characterID="222222222"> <race>Amarr</race> <bloodLine>Amarr</bloodLine> ...
edit: Whats the error? Don't you hate it when stuff works for you, but not when you release it?

Edited by: Scetrov on 24/08/2005 10:17:01 If you edit the XML file you will see a single line like this:
<character timeInCache="391031" timeLeftInCache="3208969" name="<your alt name here>" characterID="<your charid>"></character>
If you remove this line (and any other similar line before your main) then load it into ship fitter you will get your main character.
beaten to it
[edit2]Don't try loading XML from eve character manager... it crashes Ship Fitter[/edit2] Ship fitter needs some code to ignore any <character></character> pair that does not contain any data. Overclockers Player Services | Website |

Updated code to so that it selects the correct character.
Yes the XML file in Eve Character Manager may very well crash Ship Fitter, most likely because the XML file from ECM gets "corrupted" somehow and is different to the one you get from eve-online.com

If you read the readme.txt file, it tells you how to download it.
Remember that you need .NET v1.1 runtime installed. A link to that is also included in the readme.txt

Edited by: d''hofren on 24/08/2005 11:12:23 Very nice, Worked fine on my fully patched xp install here in the office. No need to edit the xml for my char either.
Seems to be on the button when using my char and replicating a few of my common setups.
(yay, new way to waste lunch times in the office!)
Wishlist? It would be lovely to see the module modifiers as well as the pg and cpu stats.

Hey von Torgo, could you post the full trace of the exception?
Scetrov: So that happened when you loaded a character, loaded a ship, made a fitting, then saved it. Then tried to load it again? and you got that exception? Did you move the application or remove your character file between saving and loading?

Capacitor Power Relay I? From Engineering Equipment -> Capacitor Power Relays?
All that happens for me is that my used CPU goes up by 4. Can you try doing it without a character loaded please? You may have a skill I don't have that is having an undesired side effect
The effects that each module/skill/ship don't really follow a nice pattern... so if it is one of the many special cases that is in the game, I will have to do something specific rather than just using the default thats in there now (for instance, large railguns have a large capacityBonus effect which is only otherwise used by modules that boost shield capacity. Why? I've got no idea...)
As for further information on the modules. I would like to do it, but it will likely take a while as I need to sort through the effects that are relevant, and the effects that aren't relevant. See above for a weird example of the data thats on the modules...

I have the same effect without a char loaded, and I just noticed my shields get 10x bigger as well.
Other modules in the engineering category like RCU's, PDU's etc. have similar (undesired) effects on powergrid and shield capacity. If it works with you I have no clue what causes this here. |

That is a strange bug.... would you please be able to open the ModuleMappings.xml file in the data directory and search for <TypeID>1445</TypeID> Keep finding the next <EveModuleToEffectMapping> until you find the one that has <EffectID>145</EffectID>.
The <EffectValue> should be 1.0 let me know if it is something different..

Ok, this is either a localisation issue cos you are using a french version of XP or its cos of some code that I was using when I first started which was bad, and I have hopefully fixed.
I have updated the the zip file, so if you could please download it again and try with the new version that would be great

and have there been any reports on inaccurace in this part...

it's works now. some suggestion : => If you have set a small things ( a frigate), propose small modules, not always the large.
Where is the shield recharge rate ? it's really usefull for testing some passive shield tank
when i put a "shield power relay II" who use 0PG ...my ship PG goes to ... 0 :p
can we have just the icon of module and a search function for modules ?
and a double click on a module to take a free medium/high/low slot ?

Going to bed now, please try redownloading if you were having problems before as I fixed some dodgy code.
I've tried to take into account all the skills that effects powergrid/CPU. For the flat increases thats easy to do, for the skills that lower the requirements of modules it is a bit harder because the descriptions of the skills don't always match what the skills actually effect. So I can't say for certain if it is set up correctly for all skills. Hopefully some of you can find out where I am wrong
It's actually possible to change the behaviour a bit by altering the xml files in the data directory, but I'll explain that a bit later.
I can possibly do some of the user experience improvements, but I have to weigh the time required vs the benefit gained and remember I'm doing this in my spare time . I do plan on putting in the recharge time for shields & capcitor, but I'm not sure when I will get around to it.
As for the Shield Power Relay II issue, yes there is something screwy going on with that module. When I add it to a ship, my powergrid goes up I will investigate this when I get a chance (probably on the weekend).

Nice prog, works fine for me so far. Yeah an addition of some of the new stuff would be good (Gistii etc). Also it would be nice to be able to see the details of my weapons, like ROF, range, damage, falloff and all that. And for a grand finaly (sp) a graphical ship setup screen like the one in EVE. Nice job so far though.

Duration is incorrect on webifiers too.

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone that has downloaded ship fitter and given it a try
I think the crashing bug is fixed in the version of the file currently available, so don't be afraid to give it a go.
The reason the faction loot is not includedis because the data from the dev blog that I extracted this data for the ship fitter said it wasn't published. I knew some of the modules had been published, but I also knew a lot of the modules hadn't, so I erred on the side of not including them so you didn't all get jealous of the GM Medium Shield Booster that boosts 4000 shields each go . Basically it is fairly trivial to add the faction loot back in, but I would love a list of the loot that is actually available in the game, as that would make things much easier for me!
I'm not certain why some modules drop power and shield to 0, as I've never had that occur so I will be adding some tracing to the application so that I can figure out what is happening. I probably won't have this ready until after the weekend (and I'm not even sure if I will have it then). Outside of those dropping to 0 bugs, if you notice that the effects of a module are incorrect, could you please let me know what details what the ship fitter is saying and what it actually should be. Thanks

it's not that bad, I loaded it at work on the slowest P.O.S. computer imaginable(this thing crashes if a strong wind blows near it) it crashed once when the whole pc died
after that I was poking around inside the xml file 'adding' faction stuffs(read changing other stuff to be faction toys), would help if I knew the code a little better, but easy enough to bash xml around a bit, a whole lot of restarts to the program and the only issues I ran into were my **** poor coding
KH, looks like it should be a great prog once the bugs are beaten and the faction stuffs added |

I'll do my best to release a version tonight that has some tracing in it so that I can work out whats happening with the strange module effects people are seeing.
Stop reading now if you aren't comfortable working with XML
(This is all from memory as I don't have the files with me at the moment) It is quite straight forward to add say the Gistii shield boosters so long as you are comfortable dealing with XML, if you aren't then wait till I or someone else gets around to adding the modules to the correct files. In the data directory there are a number of xml files. The ones that are of interest to add new modules are:
Modules.xml ModuleMappings.xml MarketGroups.xml
Modules.xml contains the details about the modules. ModuleMappings.xml contains the details about what effects the modules have. MarketGroups.xml contains info about the Market groups that are available, which determines where the module shows up in the drop down module groups.
If you want to add the Gistii Shield Boosters, open up ModuleMappings.xml and search for Gistii, keep searching till you find the shield booster and take note of the <ItemName> and <ItemID> values.
Open the Modules.xml file and search for a similar item, say Small Shield Booster I, copy and paste the whole Small Shield Booster I element and replace the ItemName and ItemID values with the values you took note of in ModuleMappings.xml. Save the files and when you next open the Ship Fitter, they module should be there.
If you want to create completely new modules, you will also need to add the effect mappings in the ModuleMappings.xml file.
I hope that makes sense

It's written in C#.
Here is Beta 3a
I have added tracing in this version, so could all the people that have experienced modules doing weird things install this version and help me gather some data on whats going wrong
After installation, open up the EveShipFitter.exe.config file in the main directory and change this:
<switches> <add name="ShowTrace" value="2" /> <add name="ModuleEffectDetails" value="0" /> <add name="EffectDetails" value="0" /> </switches>
to:
<switches> <add name="ShowTrace" value="4" /> <add name="ModuleEffectDetails" value="4" /> <add name="EffectDetails" value="4" /> </switches>
And then do whatever you did before to get the strange result. Once you have done that, you should get a file called AppLog.log in the main directory.
Could you please email me that file. My email address I'd like them to come to is [email protected]
It would be a big help to me if people could do that. Once you have gathered the data, you can change the EveShipFitter.exe.config file back to what it was originally (to save you from writing out huge logs of everything you do )

This is an awesome program. It's been something I have been looking for a while. I just have one small request. Currently the program doesn't let you fit a module if it goes over CPU/PG. Can you make it where it will allow me to go over and show by how much so I can I can make decisions on what to take out or replace? That would be awesome. Thanks in advance

Edited by: Uther Doull on 25/08/2005 14:25:10 i haven't tried the program yet, but i will later on some of the modules having incorrect values on some ppl's systems might indeed have something to do with regional settings and the decimal seperator getting ignored.
i've been programming a C# application at work and had some problems with double's and the regional settings as the server my program was running on used a comma as decimal seperator and the mysql running on it used a dot when i ran the program from my developing machine everything worked fine ofcourse, but as soon as it went live on the server it screwed up (stupid Dutch Win 2003 SBS)
in the end after some debugging i got it to work by using Convert.ToDouble(<variable>.ToString().Replace("," , "."), System.Globalization.NumberFormatInfo.InvariantInfo); (just the NumberFormatInfo didn't work)
although you may get it to work just by using the NumberFormatInfo
hope this helps you out and i'll be checking the ship fitter soon

Could you please follow the instructions in my previous post on how to get an AppLog.log file and send me the file. Everything works for me, so I need to see whats happening on machines where it isn't working for me to help
Trigger Effect: I will put that on the list of options to add. At the moment I am just trying to get it working, and once I've done that I will start adding more things.
Uther Doull: Thanks for the tip It may very well be something like that. I need people to get me those AppLog.log files to help me figure it out. Does it work for you or do you get weird things happening?
QwaarJet: I haven't done many ship bonuses yet. Once I have the logic of the application stable, I can easily update the data files to include the ship bonuses.
Hanns: Yep you are right, the Advanced Weapon Upgrades skill wasn't being taken into account (for some reason my parsing program didn't pick up the -2% effect). I've fixed it in my data files, and I may start to release the data files separately once I've ironed out the logic bugs in the main application.
If people can let me know when they notice a skill not being taken into account for a module that it should, that would be fantastic. Please let me know the skill name and the module name.
Cacodemon: It should work, I will test it on a 2k box tonight.
Szordin: Would you also please be able to generate an AppLog.log for when you try and add a PDS.
At this point I really, really need some AppLog.logs from people who are experiencing weird values coming up when adding certain modules (can you tell by how many times I've asked for people to make me some AppLogs? ). Once I've got those I should have a better chance at ironing out the bugs.

Edited by: Kristine Hall on 26/08/2005 11:44:13 New version: Beta 3b
I hope that I have now fixed the shield/power/cpu down to 0 bug. Thanks go out to Ghatar from eve-i forums for being the only one to send me an AppLog.log file (which showed me what was happening) and to Uther Doull for the decimals separator suggestion (I'm pretty sure it was the decimal separator not being ".". Nicer way to fix it is:NumberFormatInfo nfi = new NumberFormatInfo(); nfi.NumberDecimalSeparator = "."; double myValue = System.Double.Parse( effectValue, nfi ); As then it doesn't matter what the default separator is.
Other additions in Beta 3b are: Module Search You can now search for modules, type a string into the text box above the modules list and hit search. The modules list will be populated with all modules that include the search string anywhere in their name. (so searching for 'a' returns lots of modules )
Enforce Fitting Restraints Option There is now an option to either enforce the fitting restraints (PG & CPU) or to not enforce the restraints. Toggle this by selecting it from the menu options. Currently this defaults to true every time you open Ship Fitter.
Adv. Weapon Upgrades and Shield Upgrades The effects for both of these skills are now in place. If I have missed them for any weapon/shield types, please let me know.

Its all there. miscData.xls, on the Types sheet has every item in the game pretty much you just have to work out what groupIDs are for ship modules. You figure that out by looking at the Groups sheet and grabing all the groupIDs with a categoryID of 7.
Of course I would recommend writing some code to parse out the information, doing it by hand is a waste of time

KH,
Great little program you have here
Only one thing, I grabbed it and tried to test fit a harpy. It took my skills into account just fine, but when I went to add a PDS2, or two even, it didn't effect the cap at all which it should. I turned logging on and will send you the log file shortly.
A bit more debugging and this will be a great program! I even thought of trying to write something like this myself, but I got word that someone else was, so I decided not to. Anyway, great work so far, keep it up!

Thanks for that froster I've fixed this in the data files. I will release them later tonight. I'm not sure exactly what modules this skill should be applied too... PDUs and Cap Rechargers are mentioned in the skill description, but does anyone know if it applies to other things (MAPC? Cap Boosters? etc etc)

New version: Beta 3c
Bugs Fixed - If you had a fitting that included a module that added PG/CPU, then removed the module, you were unable to add it back even if after adding it, your fitting would have met the PG/CPU limits. (Thanks to Bozse for picking this one up) - Display bug when the decimal separator was set to ',' making all values appear to be much larger than they were. Fixed it so that values are always displayed with a decimal point and are rounded to 2 decimal places.
Skill Updates - Energy Grid Upgrades now converys reduced CPU requirements for Power Diagnostic Units (thanks to froster)
I'm not sure what else Energy Grid Upgrades should apply to, so far I have ti applying to PDUs and Cap Rechargers (as they are mentioned in the skill description). Can people please let me know when they find skills that aren't being applied properly to modules.

I have millions of suggestions for improvement. Although, I would be happy with these two:
1) Include more attributes in ship detail section. Like velocity, resistances, recharge times etc. Basicly there should be all the same information as is in show info-window ingame. Preferably even more info, like maximum cap usage with selected modules and module effects when on/offline.
2) It looks like module attributes are modified only by skills that affect PG and CPU. I'd like to see other effects too. For example, repair skill should shorten repairing cycle.

Edited by: Bull Slater on 29/08/2005 14:03:53 One thing that I noticed is missing or perhaps not working properly is that ships that have bonuses to help with fitting (thinking specifically of covert ops, stealth bombers, mining barges and others I might have missed) aren't having their bonuses taken into account when you fit modules. I tried to fit an Arbalest cruise onto a Manticore fitting and it still used the full, unmodified PowerGrid amount.

I will try to work on these kinds of things once I'm happy all the bugs are ironed out. It isn't really complicated, just time consuming to put this sort of stuff in .
Other stuff like cap usage with certain modules online will probably be a bit further down the track, as I would then have to understand how the cap recharge alters as cap goes down and I haven't spent any time looking at that sort of stuff yet.
As for the ship effects (like reduced cost of cloaking devices etc), I still haven't done them as I have to do them by hand and again it is a time consuming proposition and I don't have that much time outside of work. I'll get to it eventually tho.

Thanks Psionist
Also I want to again thank Bozse and Gyce, the other two people who donated some ISK to me.
I'm currently working on Beta 4. I plan to include a number of things:
- More detailed module information
- More detailed ship information
- More detailed information on shield recharge
- More detailed information on cap recharge
- Speed calculations
Its probably a few weeks off though as I am moving house soon so I have to organise all of that.

I'd like to see shield/armor resistances with modules fitted, with an adjusted number in brackets for when any active hardeners are active. But, this probably falls into the 2nd item on your list.
Excellent program! I think I may make a donation hehe ---------------------

As said on EVE Character Manager forum on eve-i, eve-i fitting tool was not ready for release, and you got it only because of a leak. Its developper is far from home for the moment, and then there won't be any further development on it soon. Don't expect to see it before several months.
Back to the topic here. I noticed that Capacitor amount was not modified by PDS. Shield and Pg are updated ok (well i didn't do the math, but there is a modification ;)). It would be great to have shield and capacitor recharge time (modified by skills and fitting), it would help to test a fitting. Having shield/armor resistances could be useful too, but dunno if it would fit somewhere (maybe in an information box when hovering over "Armor" and "Shield"?)
Good work.

Program doesn't handle MAPC correctly. Stock says 10pg added.. with skills, I'm getting 13. Yer program only registers 10 when fitted.

So far in Beta 4 I've done the following:
- added remaining PG/CPU display - Cap details (maximum stable cap usage, current cap usage (with toggleable modules) and time to cap out) - Fixed the PDU effects on cap - Fixed a bunch of skills not apply where they should.
As for MAPCs, I can't see a skill that grants a bonus to the power that a MAPC gives, however I have fixed the order increases are applied in which means a MAPC should give you 12.5 PG (10 from the MAPC and 2.5 from the 25% increase on the 10 assuming you have Engineering V).
For the problem when trying to load a fitting, its because the save file references the complete path to the character file. If it can't find it (say you moved it since saving) it craps out. I did this initially because then you could put your character file wherever you liked. In Beta 4 though, your character file needs to be in the character directory and once it is, you can move the whole app around without the save files no longer working.
I'm working on shield displays now (shield regen/second and resistances), but I need to add something to one of the core types first (to allow for other stuff down the road) and I'm not quite sure how long that will take.

There's another problem related to this. It looks like it adds modules starting from high slots and ending to low slots. This prevents loading of my setup, because there's MAPC in lows, which is required to fit other modules. Currently the program gives an unhandled exception saying that there's not enough powergrid.

Yep that sounda about right ;)
Quickest (and temporary) fix for this is to change the option to not enforce fitting requirements.
I'll fix this now.

Hi all,
I'm release what I've done of Beta 4 now because I'm moving house and so probably won't have much time to devote to it for a little while and I've got a decent part of it done.
I'll be working on adding the ship bonuses, providing speed info and more info on modules after I move house.
Beta 4
I've added capacitor, shield and armour info.

I haven't read the entire thread but maybe you should edit your first post with changes you wanna make?
a few questions:
are you planning on getting ship bonusses in? or just the base resist of the ship? (to see what kind of hardners I should fit.) I know this takes alot of repetetive tasks thats why I'll be sending you some isk when I log on cous I really wanna see this tool get an upgrade
are you gonna try another layout for the high-med-low slot layout?becouse it looks like it is done quik. I'm sure you want to work out bugs and other stuff first before you think of asthetics but I'm just intrested

Yes I am planning on putting all the ship bonuses in. The base resists are already in place. The shield tab includes the shield resists and the armour tab includes armour resists.
As for the UI.... no plans to change it at the moment. Its fairly bland, but it gets the job done [;)]

Really great job here!
I just noticed that at least one skill still had not its effect computed in EVE Ship Fitter (well, before beta 4 it had no point to compute it anyway ;)): Shield Compensation gives a -2% bonus in capacitor need for shield boosters per skill level. I guess you'll have to factor in the armor repair skill (and all the remote repair/boost) too, haven't tested them though.
UI is really neat right now, only one thing I could see as an improvement would be that a double click in modules list automaticaly fits the double clicked module in a free corresponding slot (if one available and if enough grid/cpu of course).

Thanks, for that pickup. I'll work on that as soon as I have some time . I should just be able to change the data files to enable this.
Yeah the double click to auto add would be nice. I'll see what I can do... for some reason the drag and drop functionality seemed to screw with the double click functionality... not sure how/if I can fix it.

This has probably already all been posted, but my suggestions:
- Show the ship properties (resists, speed, targetting, etc.) both before and after skills and modules. - Show PG/CPU usage as a progress bar (or similar) to give instant feedback on usage. (not sure about what to do with nurestricted fitting) - Give some indication of capacitor usage (like the FFE one) - Give some indication of damage output for targets (based on signature radius, speed, and resists)
Other than that, it looks great :D

I found something wrong with the program. You're taking into acount the afterburner skill on the mwd, at least you are on the 1mn mwd. In other words, the duration of the mwd shouldn't change afaik. It should stay at 10sec, and in my case it's going to 13sec. I don't think you need a log file, but if you do I should be able to send you one.

P.S. - If I am wrong about the mwd please don't hesitate to tell me how silly I am.

I plan to add more ship details, although I don't really have plans to add the before details. You can get those from ShipComparer in a much nicer format.
Originally by: FireFoxx80 - Show PG/CPU usage as a progress bar (or similar) to give instant feedback on usage. (not sure about what to do with nurestricted fitting)
I prefer hard numbers to progress bars in terms of providing feedback as to how much is being used/is left. I may add the numbers to a status bar down the bottom of the app so that they are available no matter what detail tab you are on.
Originally by: FireFoxx80 - Give some indication of capacitor usage (like the FFE one)
I haven't seen the FFE one, so I can't compare them. Also I'm not sure what else you want in terms of indicating capacitor usage.... if you look at the capacitor details tab, it tells you your total cap, your recharge time, your cap/second regen and also lists all fitted modules that use capacitor. If you click the module it effectively turns the module on and then shows you your cap usage/second and finally tells you how quickly (or not at all) you will run out of cap. What else can I add?
Originally by: FireFoxx80 - Give some indication of damage output for targets (based on signature radius, speed, and resists)
Some other people have asked for this, so it may be something I add in down the line. I would have to get a better understanding about precisely how you calculate damage before I do though...

Just noticed another bug: when you fit a shield power relay, you have an increase of pg you should not have. A shield power relay II will increase PG like a RCU I (whereas it should only affect shield recharge). In addition, I noticed that PDU I and PDU II gives the same increase of PG (but bonus to shield and cap seem ok though).
And selecting Faction ships gives no ship in list (mining barges appear though, so it's prolly that you don't have implemented them yet).
Keep up the good work.

I can probably whip something basic up during downtime. Probably 2 trees (one with all skills listed, other with your skills) you can select skills and set levels and then save it to a file somewhere. I'll try to work in a training duration part, but no promises -------- I use homeless people and small children for fuel. |

just downloaded this - great proggy.
I'm playing with setting up my domi as a vampire and I notice that the amount sucked from the target ship isnt added to the cap of my ship. which means as far as the fitter is concerned I cant add a 4th nos, whereas with them running the amount of cap sucked would be enough to power it.
I release that this cap is only temporary and not guranteed but it would be nice to be able to see how much cap could be added by the NOSs running.
Its a nice to have rahter than a bug

Posts have been made in the Ship Setups sticky to request that they are added in it (it's the best place to link them imho, no need to give them a specific thread), so until they do some cleaning in that sticky to present that better, they're a in it at the bottom :)

When you go on your character page, there's a link called "XML data". Right click on it and select "save to", then paste it in the character directory, and after that you can load it up with the program.
From the little I saw, that's an awesome program, IMHO only two things lack to make it perfect: Damage and DPS indications, and influence of energy vampires in the cap calculations.

Since Java seems to be losing a nut every time I try to use a Java application, I'm wondering if there's still development going on this tool.

This is such a great program! I am psyched that speed info is in the works. I did notice that it looks like some of the ships are not in there (at least in the version I have). Will we be able to fit those Hyperions some time soon ?
