just a quick question; how fast are we traveling when we use a jump gate from system to system?

Quote:Even if the functions of jump gates are well known from a theoretical point of view, there still remain a lot of unanswered questions about the fundamentals of dimensional inter-connections. Naturally, many theories exist on the subject, but none are comprehensive enough to fully explain how the universe is divided into many dimensions and the connections between them, some also touch upon the subject of hyperspace, an alternative plain in another dimension. About the only statement these theories agree upon is that these issues are definitely not as simple as they seem on the surface. However, these theories are still a topic of research, and stargate technology is being continually refined, with new jump gate designs appearing regularly to improve safety and efficiency. Part of a stargateGÇÖs operation involves the use of superheated plasma, which can be vented into space. If vented improperly, it is possible that the plasma may be attracted away from the jump gateGÇÖs boson sphere toward an approaching ship, where it may react with the shipGÇÖs shields to produce a harmless visual phenomenon, such as the Lutins observed near the Perimeter gate in Iyen-Oursta.
I'm sure there is a massive equation somewhere that will calculate the value of FTL speed via Stargate, but my neocom refuses to search for such things. Astroyka - A Mirkur Draug'Tyr pilot, fighting against slavery in New Eden www.astroyka.net |

You arrive almost instantly, so pretty damn fast. I remember something about temporary wormholes.
I've used them so much I just take them for granted now. You can't take the sky from me |

It is, in essence, a small, instantaneous wormhole - you're moving at whatever velocity you were moving in normal space.
In terms of distance covered on the normal "plane" versus time? Ridiculously fast. Lightyears in a millisecond. |

Welcome to being a member of the Elite in the universe.

Thank you all for the replies, now if i can just get my brother to stop being an arse about this Caldari prime BS, we can get the corp back to exploration |

It was a joke. All of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again. |

Natasha Briggs wrote:just a quick question; how fast are we traveling when we use a jump gate from system to system? According to public CONCORD databases, point-to-point travel through stargates occurs instantaneously, so it's not really possible to assign a meaningful speed to it. Mane 614

know-it-all s RARELY know it all, including CONCORD. as a xenobiologist, i am hardly a quantum physics expert, but to travel 'instantly' one would have to be (temporarily) in 2 places at once. |
