It is hard on people's eyes and people have a hard time distinquishing between characters in eve. PLEASE change the font from calibri, or this sans serif, to Times new roman. You try typing characters in eve, without using whatever hacked client you use to be able to read. People with small monitors need to make the font smaller, so that more can fit on the screen. PLEASE let us be able to read it when it's small.
We're supposivley living in 2833 or something in eve but the romans conquered the western world hundreds of years ago, today, and thats why most american Legal is written in times new roman; it is to help distinquish characters in contracts. |

The font was changed like a year ago and it's one of the best UI fonts I've seen.

Yeah... CCP is based in Iceland. Romans never really got that far. Only Vikings. Who were never conquered by the Romans. So of course they are going to use a font that is just as infuriating and savage as them.
Type slower maybe? Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

Some time back the font was changed to a custom font made by ccp. I think they used arial before that. Personally I think that times new roman would spoil the look of the game. |

The font is very nice and much more legible than its predecessor. They specifically designed it with differentiating between characters and legibility as their primary concerns (and probably in that order of importance). If you still cannot read it, perhaps the font is not the problem here.
Please consider getting your eyes checked or getting a larger monitor. EVE should probably not be played on monitors smaller than 10 inches. If neither of these solutions yield results/are acceptable, then consider simply making do with less information on the screen by increasing the font size slightly. |

But it only had a limited support for unicode symbols, thus a system default font was used for many other languages. The main problem with font is the way it's rendered on transparent surface. the backdrop shadow is barely noticable, if at all exists. There's minor issues, too, like brackets alignemnt and kerning, but they are only minor in comparison the the first one, and add a great deal of annoyance for overall font readability taken alone. |

I have a 23" monitor, and I play the game at a resolution of 1920x1080. As it is now, I have to increase UI scaling to 125% to stop myself from getting eye strain from looking at the font. This is really unfortunate, because it of course means that all the windows take up quite a bit of space. I'm not familiar with the technical difficulties involved, but I really do hope that someone looks into creating / implementing a properly scalable font at some point. |

I think that simply using upper case for all overview and ui fonts would solve the problem of the characters bleeding together. There is so much information in this game to display that setting the ui at 90% almost feels mandatory. At 90% lower case letters are not as legible as they should be, even on a 23" monitor. My current solution is to play stretched across two screen and filling one whole screen with windows. |

Serif fonts like Times New Roman work much better in print than on screen. Sans-serif fonts are far better suited to screens. That won't change until screens have print-like resolution and contrast.
I don't know why you have trouble differentiating characters with EVE's font, or this one. It's quite clear.
You can shrink any font to the point of illegibility, but that point comes sooner on screen because of the comparatively poor resolution. Switching fonts is not going to help much (though if it did, something like Lucida would make more sense than TNR). Proud founder and member of the Belligerent Desirables.

Just mentioning you can change the font size for the chat window independent of the UI scale. |

I know that, but there are a lot of other windows in the game.

Um, if you stare at a relatively low-resolution, low-contrast, high-detail anything for too long, especially if it's less than an arm's length (or thereabouts) from your head, you're going to get eyestrain and you're going to get a headache. You're also going to hurt your vision long term.
This is why every workplace ergonomics specialist recommends placing your monitor at least three feet from your head, and looking away at a relatively distant object for 5 or so minutes every 15 or 20 minutes. You're asking your eyes to do a lot of work for a long time. They're going to get tired. Changing the font won't make a substantial difference.
You might also consider seeing an optometrist. You may have astigmatism. I have to wear glasses if I look at a monitor for any extended period of time or I get eyestrain and headaches, too. Proud founder and member of the Belligerent Desirables.

I can lower the font size elsewhere (and I do, I like it pretty small) e.g. when browsing the web, or when writing something, without getting eye strain, even after several hours. And I do keep my monitor well away from my head. Increasing the UI scale completely eliminates the problem, aside from the aforementioned downside of having windows take up tons of space on my screen. If I'm really the only one suffering from this, I suppose it's possible that somehow the font is being rendered wrong, in which case I'm all ears for suggestions on how to fix it. |

I play consistently with 90% UI scaling, no problem. I honestly don't see the issue. Even when shrunk it works well. How droll. |

Times New Roman does not belong in video games. It belongs in newspapers, powerpoint presentations and generally boring media. I'm imagining EVE with TNR as it's font, and honestly? It increases the 'halfassed UI' factor by about 60%. |
