I found myself in a swarm of rats last night. It wasn't a problem as my ship could handle it, but what was really annoying was that after I killed one rat I had to manually restart my weapon to fire at the next rat even though it was already targeted and locked. Is there a way to set a weapon to start firing immediately on the next target

No, there is not. But that is a problem? Use F1-F8.
IN reality in future you will allways want to choise next target.

That would be a very BAD thing.
*target rat, begin firing*
*target gangmate, start boosting*
*rat dies, you start firing on your gangmate automatically*

You are playing a game, not watching a film. A minimum level of interaction is required by you.

Also when your up against a combination of frig rats and cruiser rats etc you want to be able to take out all the little pesky rats first and then concentrate on the bigger rat last. ----- Trixy says "Keep ur friends close but ur enemies even closer" -----

Edited by: Bhohokuhoe on 30/08/2005 22:40:57 It comes down to targeting. In the overview window, the targets are displayed and can be clicked on. If I'm fighting one bogie I can then adjust my targets in the overview. Unlock gangmates and cruisers, lock on frigates etc. This way my limited targeting capability could keep up with the fighting with minimal "downtime" or reactivation of weapon between targets. At least this is what I'd like to be able to do.

Edited by: Letouk Mernel on 30/08/2005 23:49:49 I guess you haven't encountered a situation yet where it takes you 20-30 seconds to lock one thing, due to jamming or size/resolution differences; cause THEN you won't want to "manage" your fight via (re)targetting anymore.
The game is what it is. The UI could use some improvements, and this autofire thing you want would be ok as long as it's an option, and not a mandatory change, so that doesn't affect the rest of us. Personally, I'd rather have the option to tell the ship to "keep x enemies targetted" (when one dies, it targets the next), and manage my fight by activating the guns/items I want on the targets I want.

What sort of ship are you flying? Have you tried selecting one target, using a couple of your weapons and selecting another target to do the same. I fly a kestrel and when fighting a group I know I can beat I use 2 launcher on each target.

FOF Missiles do more or less what you want. You can't use them in every situation, though.
Drones are also release and forget. Unfortunately, they're really dumb. They'll split up instead of concentrating on one ship and will just as soon attack a rat who isn't firing on you as one who's chewing up your sheilds.

Which is why you have to tell the drones what to do.
FoF missiles are pointless--they fire randomely, so the enemies can absorb the damage, and do less damage too. They're useful only when jammed in PvP. -- Proud member of the [23].

Oh most definitely an option. Operators should ALWAYS have ability to override the fire control system. Thanks all for your responses though.
