Description of my idea: In simple terms, show live gameplay by streaming the desktops of players.
The streams are not full-speed streams as atm it takes too much resources but I am still working on that, so instead a screenshot is taken every 5 seconds and is being sent to a media server of mine.
Users can then watch the live feeds by visiting the site and opening up the stream they want to view.
Interested in participating and showing your gameplay? You need two things for this to work.
1. Windows Media Encoder - the software I use to capture the dekstop and send the live stream to my media server. Can be downloaded from my site or Microsoft's. It is freeware. 2. The WME script file - obtained via my site, hold the configuration to make it work.
Installation and setup should not take more than 5 min aprox and has so far worked without too much hassle, basicly install and run script file and press start and you're live.
The idea is to show not only EVE players what others are doing but also showing anyone interested what is going on, showing wars, pvp, mining, pirating and more.
I am sure that there will be more talk about this so I will do my best to make everything clear.
So for the viewers: EVE Live! And for the streamers: Script Generation

Yes this is made by me. And hopefully yes others will join in as well, even if they just mine or do something they feel is silly.

Well nothing can be something, if not it looks better to have some streams rather than none ;) But feel free to give it a try if you want.

I didn't even know I was that hard to catch in the first place lol

But DO remember to turn it on once you're set, I doubt I am the only one that would love to see some real wars/pvp without having to leave the safe carebear space of 1.0

Beer... can't I get a coke or quafe instead, I wouldn't want CONCORD to bust me for DUI Plus CCP can give me a free fanfest package so I can come enjoy it as well hehe

Wow, this is a sweet idea. My boss went off for a meeting, so I had to tune in to see what you're doing , pity you're only sitting in a station atm (hint hint, get out there and shoot someone!!!!)
This is a great idea in so many ways. There's a lot of times that people in my own corp are in the wrong place when a big battle is brewing. Best they can do is listen on TS as the results come in. With this, everyone can watch if they can't be there!
I can just imagine the viewing figures if this had been going when we aided Supremacy's invasion of Syndicate. Those 5 hour fleet battles would have been compulsive viewing!

Very cool Chribba.
I have just been watching a feed for a few minutes, and have realised that the streaming shows all action made by them on the computer (ie I can see them browsing the net during warps etc).
Is there a way for the streaming to be solely of Eve footage?
It may be more appealing to people wanting to stream footage if they dont have to worry/turn off eve-live, everytime they want to do something else during warp etc.
But very cool

There is, but I haven't found it working like I wanted it to, hence why it's set to capture the full screen.
In WME you can specify the window that should be captured but like said, it doesn't work like it is supposed and I haven't figured out how to get that working (if it is possible) and I do agree with the interest of seeing someone browse the eve forums while warp etc.
Hopefully I can overcome the problem and present a working solution for it.

Simple way to prevent showing your raid, make it not quite live.
Put a 10 min delay on it or somthing kind of like the LAX website dose with it's airtrafic tracker.
Altho No clue how you would do such a thing, but not sure you could live feed a vid from eve to a site and still have any bandwidth to play eve. Your not stupid just misinformed Ö

It isn't 100% real-time now, usually around 1-2 min delay in the feed.
Aprox bandwidth is 20-30kb/s so most people with at least 512kbit links should be able to stream without any problem.

I was having problems, then I worked out what it was. I was connected to one of my customers VPNs and everything was being routed through the VPN (ah crap). Wasted some bandwidth :)

Edited by: FireFoxx80 on 30/08/2005 10:52:53 Looks very good
Few recommendations:
- Can you get into one of these truly 'neutral' reporting corps, like Eve Radio or the such? Would be a lot easier for you to get into massive fleet battles.
- Delay the feed by 5 mins if possible, especially during fleet battles.
- Get someone to add commentary to these large events.
- Archive some of the better feeds?
- Increase frame-rate for some of the better engagements.
- Get some advertising on your site to pay for all that bandwidth.

This is cool
I tried out myself but it felt weird thinking people were watching me like i was a cam ***** or something.
I think ill reserve this for when pvp arises. People find out too much about you when you go about your daily business. As everyone knows i do lvl1 missions in a mega now!
But anyway a really good idea

Its a very cool idea, the only problem is there are obviously people i dont want watching hehe. Is there anyway to setup like private groups, if i wanted to share my stream with just my corp/alliance/select friends rather then everyone including the enemy hehe. ----- Eris Discordia; I think the proper term is <3
