Q-ships. We don't have any. I would love to troll into a gatecamp in a badger then when someone locks me BOOM, those are cruise launchers, and best of all: mah ship's actually a baitmobile.

Well, obviously for it to work on anybody but the truly stupid (who don't stay in EvE longer than a few days) the overview has to be made to lie.
I didn't say it was a good idea; just an observation. I figure even if they did add Q-Ships and they could spoof your overview, they'd only get kills for maybe a few weeks till the gate camps were reorganized to screen for that kind of crap. |

Almost any existing non-warship ship can be made a Q-ship. Most won't be very effective. Just like in the real world, arming a tugboat won't make an effective Q-ship. Still, it can be done.
No need for a new class.

Its called a cov ops.
Actually it doesnt generate the illusion of another ship, it generates the illusion of no ship, which is better at the end of the day.
Think about it, you cant go AFK in a ship that looks like another ship and terrorize local botters. But you CAN go AFK in a ship that looks like there is no ship.

A nice step towards this that I've often felt would enhance Eve is for Deep Scan, & even overview initially to only show the ship class. So on your deep scan window instead of Prophecy or Damnation you might just get 'Battlecruiser'. As Deep scan only gives how large the ship is. Then when you get onto overview that changes to 'Combat Battlecruiser' & 'Command Ship' as you are now close enough to get detailed class scans. Once you are in actual visual range or your ships targetting range (Can use either, or go by the greater) you then get 'Prophecy' & 'Damnation' & you have gotten enough details to really identify your target.
This would make for a lot more uncertainty when engaging, as you can't deep scan them out and know which hardeners your buddy needs to fit to win against them easily, since you only know the general classes of ships. & would raise the value of a cloaky scout or two traveling with a gang getting specific ship visuals before engaging. |

I've always liked the idea of Q-ships being in the game, based on the existing t2 hauler hulls but with stats more akin to a BC with regards to cap, slots, pg and cpu.
I know battle badgers and the like are used already, I think it's great that people are doing it, I'd just like to see the possibility of flying something that can fight it's way out of a gatecamp, while hauling stuff, cargo could be unbonused and/or lower than the normal hull to compensate for its increased abilities (explained away by the retrofit military grade hardpoints, capacitor and cpu).

I like the idea of a mimicry ship module. It could either make a ship appear harmless (bait ship) or dangerous (to help protect your industrial or transport ship for example).
I would balance it around the existing cloak mods. So it would use a high slot, PG and CPU similar to a cloak mod, no MWD or AB and reduced base speed while the mimicry mod is active. I believe warping with an active mimicry mod might be too good, but that's something that could be discussed. However, no effects on lock on time (neither for the mimicry ship nor for other ships trying to lock it).
The mimicry mod should work with scripts which tell it how to camouflage the ship. To keep things simple I would only allow scrips with the base version of a ship and only sub caps (so we would have a script for a Prophecy, but none for a Damnation) - but that's another thing that could be discussed, of course (come to think of, there's that Absolution named Myriad Blaze's Prophecy - so maybe we should add scripts for t2 variants after all. )

It seems almost cruel to keep listing them...
This idea comes up about once every six months, apparently depending on what the History channel is showing. It never gets any traction because the Battle Badger is already about equivalent, and because all the ideas require huge changes to the way the game works (like lying overviews) for something which would really be a minor novelty. |
