This has never happened to me before.
I was running a mission in a 0.3 system, not near a planet or asteroid belt. I had been there about 20 minutes when two pirates warped in to about 60km from me, one in an Eagle, the other an Apoc, and proceeded to lock me down and attack...being set up for level 4 missions I had no means to retaliate.
I have NEVER been attacked while on a mission before, only at gates when coming and going. Has the patch changed something? Could it be an exploit? Have I just been lucky up till now in getting away with it?
Has anyone else been attacked while on a mission (other than at the gate I mean)? ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. I'm a STARSHIP. * ========================================= |

There-in lies your problem, and you say yourself you where there 20mins, more than enough time for probes to find you.

How can someone lock you down from 60 km?
Also I guess eagles are 'fine' if people are using them to PvP with.

Missions are no different from just been in space for no reason. Probes can find you just as easily as they can find someone whom maybe safespotted.
Watch local and if any ships warp onto you warp out, use stabs and always expect player rats :D
Also with sensor booster one can lock over 100km away, however they cannot warp scramble you that far :D

I have often wondered if it was possible to find people on missions and it looks like you can.
Personally I stopped using Lvl 4 agents in a 0.3 next to my home base purely because of the risk of being ganked at the gate.
I lost a Raven set up for missions and also lost Data sheets (specific items) that were needed to finish mission to two gate gankers. To be honest it put me off risking so much when I knew I would be jumping in and out on a regular basis and being easy pickings.
Its actually done me a favour though as it encouraged me to go the '7 jumps' to the best available agent.....all in risk free space as well.
Dont get me wrong Im not frightened of risk. Its just nice to be able to chill out some nights without having to take precaution after precaution everytime you move about.

Well, looks like I have to call this a learning experience. I apologise to the pirates involved for implying a possible exploit.
Maybe now all those people who referred to running level 4 missions as a "zero risk" occupation will please shut their foul whining. Rewards and bounties from this activity have been so reduced by the last patch that it no longer justifies this kind of risk. I shan't be wandering into 0.4 or lower again any time soon.
As to setup options, it is not possible to kit out a Raven for a level 4 mission AND cover the possibility of being jumped by players...damage from missiles has been so greatly reduced that all slots are required to break the tank of the larger BS's.
Thanks to all contributors. Looks like I will have to move into safer space, or find another way to make money. ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. I'm a STARSHIP. * ========================================= |

There's no thrill in losing 150 mill in 2 minutes that it will take me about a month to make back. If that implies I'm not much good at this game, then so be it, but I don't see why that means I should be made to enjoy it less. ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. That was camping a spot for non DS missions if I remeber correctly...Some mission BMs were to the same place in non DS missions...using probes to find and warp to the agent runner has never been a exploit.

You have taken this well.. i know a few people that this has happened to and they are still moaning about it even now.
One thing i dont understand is how they locked you down from 60k away, if they were that far out why did you not just warp away??
Not meant as a insult just a query..

Realy, where's the fun, or thrill in getting ganked by a far greater force while in a mission setup.
As far as warning goes, id say it to all, your mission bm drops you anywhere near the plain of a planet or moon, be prepared to hightale it out of there, your a sitting duck and very easy to find.
But what i will say to the original guy, with lv4's being the way they are now, you don't exactly lose a hell of a lot running in 0.5 up.
So basicaly pick low or high, whatever suits you realy. -------- 23
Arguing that namechanging would promote griefing is somewhat moot given the current FFA on that front.

have to disagree with u on that one.
with the lowering of bounties for the mission rats your agent rewards and lps are a bigger % of your overall "take" from a mission and as they are higher in low sec it is actually more worthwhile to be low sec than before.

Yes other ppl have been attacked. It seems that alot of "encounters in space" are occuring in the same locations. The gankers must have done the mission before you and BOOKMARKED the encounter location. Upon your entering the system they watched the other gate(s) and didnt see u leave the system. Then they immediately warped to the selected bookmark location where your mission should be occuring.
Bingo Bango insta ganking.
IMHO this is a SEVERE exploit. If deadspaces could be similarly bookmarked, which I think they can then this is a waiting game for the gankers to twiddle their thumbs waiting for the next fly into the web.
I have to confirm this one but i think that dead spaces can be bookmarked as u do the mission, as u can currently bookmark the loot cans, end the mission and warp back out to get the loot without the hastle of gates and respawning rats. did they use an old missions bm or not tho? honestly from the sounds, they didn't need to 1) in same spot 20ish min(probes take about 5-10min give or take skills and covert ops, how long were they in system?) 2) was it near a belt or planet, both are easy to warp to and anyone halfway decent with the ship scanner can come close

Mission spots are for the vast majority of time random.
Do 10 missions and bookmark the spots. You will find they are all different.
I find it funny how people complain that gates and stations are full of gankers. Now, some players make the *considerable* effort to find a mission runner and attack him and it's an exploit????
Get real.
Only the truely naive would even think along these lines.

Upon reflection, they must have warped in closer to me. Either that, or it's always possible that as a carebear who doesn't do the PVP thing, I froze instead of warping straight away. ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. Yeah but mimik mate, rewards are mostly isk based now, so 1 million isk difference aint all that much, and lp offers have been batterd now so there no way on a par with what they once were.
Yeah i know you will get more lp and such, and if you weigh it out the chances of you getting ganked on a mission is pretty slim, but still, the gaps arn't near enough compared to what they once were realy.
Only one id realy call it on are the drone missions, low sec are great for the outposts.
The only real call between low/high imo. -------- 23

rewards are generally ok but if u have done a mission where u have got esp factional loot and pirates appear in local - dont do what i did and try to dock - find a safespot and log for up to 1 hour. By the time u come back they should be gone and docking at station is easy.

ok to clear things up.....
we were in the next system looking for people doing missions but they were all in deadspace, so we took our cov ops next door, spotted him on the scanner and deployed probes, 2mins later we have our cov ops 5km from him, so we jump in and warp to him... no exploit , he kept his ship, we got a lil richer, thats about it tbh.

Running missions in low sec space has always been a risk...
for 5 weeks I ran missions in Ziriert (spelling) and has short bus squad all over the place.
They shot alot of other mission runners but never me. I spose it's who the ppl are etc.
One of the first things i did was insta map the constelation. noted what systems I ran missions in. and made sure I could always take more than one path to get there.
Also it may help if one trest the locals with a bit of respect too :P
and the old trick find out who is running missions. form a pvt channel for recon. swapping info as needed.
must admit my old mission running spot has become over flooded with drop kicks. and i dont miss missions in the slightest :)

Thanks to Lodhi for that, AND thanks to X Hale as well, even if he is a scum of the earth pirate. Hopefully I won't be quite such easy meat next time, now that I'm forewarned to the problem.

May be sometimes you will understand that lossing ships to people IS fun. I dont care if I lose ships and if I``ll be broke I`ll fly cheaper ships.
Loosing ships to NPS\concrod\lag isdifferent and is no fun for me :P

Sorry for your loss Grey Area but you and others might be interested to learn that X Hale is an alt of an ex "UK Corp" member called Brigar Starcleaver and that this is given the ok by the CEO and leadership of the UK Corp as the Corp he is in now "Spankage Inc" is the UK Corp by another name.
Many people in the UK Corp have Pirate alts and enjoy going after the players that are new to EVE, It is not unusual for UK Corp members to assist during these "hunts" in Covert Ops or just by providing intel in one form or another.
While not every new member of the UK Corp may be aware of this (where do you think the ISK goes folks duh!) the CEO and leadership are aware and have activly participated in one form or another.
It is a shame that the UK Corp lacks the backbone to show their true colours (yes, as do I as I know just how vindictive they can be), however its quite funny to hear supposed allies asking for intel on a members alt or a UK Corp allied pirate Corp I guess.
-Alt of soon to be ex-member, deny it all you want Nik but all anyone has to do is look at the member names of Spankage Ink and no I'm afraid the so called falling out between yourselves and the members of Spankage Ink was also just for show.
Enjoy. |

OMG, I love spineless alts.
I am a former director of UKC, I left to persue a different gaming aspect. Spankage Inc has several ex-UKC members, it has zero UKC Alts. So quit yo' lying. UKC has a +10 standing because we have a lot of friends in that corp still, and it would be wrong to shoot them. We also have +10 with approx 10 other corps.
You also lie about us going after players new to eve, we pirate everyone equally. I personally leave new players, if anything I lock them in a belt and conv them, explaining that they should be dead already,
Spankage has nothing to hide, but you do, Who's your main, little man? Your post is not only off-topic, but full of lies and flamebait. Grow up.
